Super Stroke pistol GT 1.0

Fireinthehole

Recommended Posts

Super stroke has been making putter grips for a few years now, but they have been slowly introducing new shapes every year.

I have tried the slim 1.0, mid slim 2.0, 3.0, ultra flatso, but none has really been my favorite. Then as fate would have it, I stumbled across the Pistol GT 1.0 and 2.0. I had seen some of these on your

I prefer a pistol shape and liked the Pistolero found on previous Scotty putters, but I wanted a little more size both in the palm and in the lower hand. I ended up deciding on the GT 1.0.

It is almost as if they took the ultra slim top and married it with the flatso ultra's almost triangular bottom and the mid slim 2.0 butt end. Yes that is quite the Frankenstein esque description. So I installed it on a Bettinardi Signature Series #7, which had a grip master midsize grip.

Keeping in line with their decision to add a core weight to all their putter grips, this has one too. The weight of the grip without the weight in is 52 grams. Every grip comes with a 50 gram core weight and Allen wrench key. I prefer it without the core weight for swing weight purposes. The bettinardi head weight is 345 grams and so it helps to keep the weight out. The grip itself is in the traditional or trademark Super stroke foam, which feels the same regardless of model (to me at least). I was looking to hold out for the golf pride sensor grips but they weigh too much for my liking; not to mention I don't like the color schemes.

I have been very pleased with this grip and it has helped putting twofold. One-I've seen my grip pressure decrease. That grip master had a slick feeling I was none too pleased with
Two-it is a better fit in my hand so that I am not fidgeting and breaking my wrists. I especially love the lower hand taper size. The color scheme is not too bad on the eyes, though there is a black, blue, and silver color scheme of you prefer that. Yes the white might lose its brightness, like the rest of their line up, but use/ care will play in to that. Worth putting on the try list for 2016.

Update 6-13-16.
So I wanted to update and compare to the sensr contour grip 90 gram 104cc which I got on a Scotty Cameron square back.

Feel vs super stroke
Softer for sure and more rubbery/ spongey feeling. The super stroke feels like it has a firmer core.

Fit
The senr has better fit in the top hand due to the bigger contour at the butt end. Not night and day size difference but better. The lower hand goes to the super stroke, it is bigger, but again not super night and day. The top of the superstroke is flatter than the contour, only because the SENSR grip seems to slope as it gets into the butt end. The under side of the grip: SENR has a round U shape where the Super Stroke starts as U with a V shape where the stitching is.

The sensr is a good fit for the Scotty because it's head is 20 grams heavier than the bettinardi and the grip is 90 grams vs 50 grams in the super stroke

Verdict both are good groups and retain the soft feel of both putter's , it depends what your looking for in a putter grip I guess

Just put the 2.0 on my club. I love the swing weight, mainly because my club felt so light. Think it's helped my stroke out just a bit as well.

Nice! Im glad it has a lower weight than the flatso I am used too, 50 grams in the grip shaved really made my putters swing weight feel better with my slower tempo

I just got this grip installed on my putter last week and I'm really enjoying it. It feels much more comfortable in my hands than the mid slim 2.0 I was using in the past. I putted excellent with it in my first round as well. Great grip so far!

Nice review! I finally got around to putting this on my gamer the other day and can't wait to get it out to the course!

I've really liked the overall increase in size without the weight, still preserves the soft feel my putter which I prefer

Good to see it's working for you! I'd say the size is just right on this thing. Also helps when you putt well after the change.

I've always liked the lower portion of the 1.0, haven't tried any of the pure line but that big dog sure is heavy. Be interesting to see how it matches to the golf pride sensor grips.

I made the mistake of going from my Scotty Cameron pistol grip to a Fatso 5.0, thinking if you're gonna go big, might as well get the biggest. It didn't work out, and now I'm back to a Lamkin pistol.

This grip is good looking and not too much of a culture shock. I'll have to give it a try!

Oh man that would be quite the change! my biggest sticking point with most pistol designs was always thelower hand being so small.

Worth a shot, but $35 compared to a sub $10 ping grip can give you some sticker shock. I prefer the super strokes color scheme to the sensr...

It was a huge change! But my own stupidity that brought it on...

I've switched to left hand low, almost a claw type grip as of late, so I wouldn't mind the bottom taper not to be so...tapered. Definitely going to give the new SS pistol a try. And I agree, the color scheme is much more enticing than my black rubber Lamkin pistol grip.

Well I played one round with it and had the 50 gram insert installed (no real point in using if you're not going counter core IMO as there are many other pistol shapes for $10 or less). Hated it so much I not only switched putters at the turn, but i removed the whole thing as soon as my round was over. No feel for me on distance putts but a dream in 8 foot and in.

Man that's unfortunate! What putter did you have it on?

I just liked the reduced weight, don't really need the counter balanced effect. And still a fan of the lower hand portion
