It was brought to us by the letter E.

It does not even tell you how to hit each. Just that these are the ones to learn.

I was actually just thinking about this the other day!  Here are my five most important shots:

1.  The low draw (for those windy days)

2.  The 3/4 shot (for those in between yardages and windy days)

3.  Basic chip shot (if you're desperate you can hit this with different clubs in just about any situation-- excluding bunkers and shots over water of course!)

4.  The punch shot (especially getting the trajectory right out of the rough when you're under a bunch of trees)

5.  High soft fade (for those greens that are as hard as concrete)

What do you guys think??  It sure is tough to narrow it down to just 5!

Those first 5 shots are perhaps just basic to the game if you want to break 120!

I'm certainly not the best golfer here but I tend to agree more with DIY. I'm way beyond beginner days.

One of my favorite shots is the Knock Down. I play this shot frequently in Texas. If correctly struck you can really stick it close. I also love the Low Draw mentioned by DIY. It's a hard one for me but so beautiful when it works. Both of these shots are must haves when facing a stiff wind or breeze.

Shots I find myself needing to hit pretty often but just cannot do it.

1. 10-15 yard pitch over a small hill with the pin at the front of the green leaving my with no room to land it and have any roll. Need to stop it on a dime but have trouble doing that from such a short distance. Try opening up and lobbing it high but then accuracy goes way down.

2. Strong hook around a tree from about 150 out. Every time I try it goes perfectly straight and I'm well right of the green.

3. High cut from about 150. I can do it all the time when I don't need to.

4. 220-250 off the tee to a tight horizontal fairway i.e. over water but short enough to not go through the fairway. I always seem to nail whatever club I'm trying to hit farther than usual and through the FW into the rough.

5. Bunker onto a short green. Way to often I hit it a lot longer than I'm trying to. Would love to get some touch out of the sand.

Those are the shots that are the most common that are keeping my scores as high as they are.

Are these what you're talking about Nifty?

1. The topped tee shot off #1 at the club championship.

2. The worm burner over the green from 110.

3. The dumped bunker shot that goes 4 inches.

4. The horseshoed putt for bird.

5. The OB from out of no where.

I've only heard of these.

Don't forget the shot Nocera hit yesterday at the Solheim Cup;  150 out from the middle of the fairway and hit it 110 hard right into the lake to lose the hole and match.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Didn't notice at first the post was over a year and half old, 13 replies in that time should have told me something.

But I felt Big Stu's post was the most spot on of the thread...a minute of my life that I'll never get back...ha

By this point the guy who started the thread had started a couple of others that were just as silly so I never clicked or read it.

Plaid's five shots you don't need post is one for the ages and Nifty's reply was priceless.

I wish he'd come back. :(
