808nation
Do you take your hat off or keep it on after the round is over? Is it personal preference or part of golf etiquette that should be followed. - I prefer to keep my hat on, but always shake hands and give pleasantries to each player in my group at the end of the round. Am I wrong? Am I showing disrespect? downlowkey
If avoiding the perception of disrespectful behavior is your prime motivation; maybe a good rule of thumb on this subject is committing to the same courtesies (hat, shades, handshake) your playing partners extend toward you. Shankster
I have to wear a hat for work. So, I tend not to while trying to enjoy myself, but if I do wear one it's a cabbie cap, and it comes off as soon as I hole my last Putt. And as DLK said, absolutely no hats inside, ever. Peaksy68
Here in Aus, the hat removal thing when shaking hands has never really been a "thing" until recently. This is probably due in the main to coverage of PGA tour finishes. The hats off in the clubhouse rule used to be strongly enforced, but this has relaxed in the last few years. My club in particular has really relaxed the dress code in an attempt to attract more members and green fee players. You still don't see many hats inside, and regulars don't take full "advantage" of the relaxed dress code. 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
kardboard.kid
Not being under the Queen's rule, I was reminded last summer to take my heart off where ever a picture of her Majesty was hanging. Hackabilly
Once in highschool my girlfriend at the time wanted me to meet her grandmother. I happened to be wearing a hat that day, and normally it comes off as soon as I walk in a building especially a house. This day I forgot for a minute because I was in the middle of a conversation with the girlfriend as we walked into her grandmother's house. Hadn't been introduced to Grandma yet because she was outside when we came in. So Grandma shuffles in and right up too me. So I turn to face her and say hi, and this very small German lady with a very sour look on her face gets as close as you can get to someone without giving them a hug and says, "Can I asks you sumving?". I said "of course", a little scared and completely unsure of what's coming next. She says "Vy do you Vears a hat inside?" Haha I don't forget to take it off anymore. I didn't live that one down for a while, she didn't use my name, I was just the kid who wore a hat in her house that one time. She was also quite fond of calling us peasants occasionally. She had quite the sense of humor. Sent from my Pixel using MyGolfSpy mobile app

ddryan
As many have said earlier- Hat off for handshakes after the round, and never indoors. Early on in my career in uniform, I was taught the "Rules of the Rifles" - you wear your hat in the bar, you buy the bar a round - you put your hat on the bar, you buy the bar a round. ole gray
Ok so at the course I am a member and have been for 3+ years the hat thing is a non issue. Meaning everybody comes in the clubhouse with a hat on. The reason being it's not a fancy club with fancy dining etc. In fact the 3+ years I have been a member, I have rarely seen the owners head. It's a place where you hop out of your car, load up all your gear, including the hat on your head and run up to check in, get range balls, and then back outside. There is a small snack bar where you can pick up beer, sandwiches, etc. at the turn or after a round. Folks occasionally take their hats off in the snack area however it's usually because during or after the round they are sweating like fat albert in a hawg wrestling contest. Now this is no slum bag course as DawgDaddy and folks who have played here can attest to however the hat thing is non existent. The only time the hat off thing comes in to play, is when you're meeting strangers for the first time and and you might want to put on some airs. Other than that it's get ya arse off the green and let's go have a beer .
