ANA Inspiration Championship - The Year's First Major Championship!

This week the LPGA moves to Rancho Mirage, California for the playing of the ANA Inspiration. This is the first Major Championship of the 2018 season. 

I am sure everyone remembers last year's controversial finish, where Lexi Thompson was assessed a 4 stroke penalty and was defeated by So Yeon Ryu in a playoff.

I'd be down, and I think the LPGA would kill for, a final pairing of Lexi/Michelle on Sunday and it's in the realm of possibility. I'm gonna go a bit off the board though and I'm picking Jessica Korda to get that break through first major.

I like womans golf (and not for those reasons) as their swings and distances are far closer to us mere mortals than the pga tour guys smashing 4 irons 250 yds. They swing so easily yet still average about 270 off the tee, short games are enviable also. Hope its a close exciting 4 days.

You're one of many - myself included, that has made the same comment. These ladies are really good - wish they got network coverage like the PGA does.

I attended the ANA many years ago... it was the Kraft-Nabisco then; the year Morgan Pressel won or should I say Suzann Pettersen lost.  Great course and a fun tournament.  Good crowds, but you can get really close to the players.  The ladies are fun to watch.

100% agree. I love how personable most players are on their tour and how their distances are more relatable as an average player. They are out there playing from roughly the same tees I'd be standing on the very next day so it makes their skill set so much more impressive than say, DJ cutting a corner with a 360 yd drive giving him a wedge into a par 5. 

 

If you've not done so already give this week's ep of the NLU podcast a listen, they interviewed Mike Whan, the LPGA commissioner and it was interesting to hear some of the changes he's implemented. 

 

The ladies are fun to watch.

I listened to Mike Whan on the No Laying Up podcast yesterday afternoon.  For anyone interested, he is remarkably fascinating.  It's an excellent listen!  His ideas of how to cater to clientele as well as keep his players happy are refreshing.  It's one of the better golf podcasts I've listened too.

Doesn't look good for Lexi. She can't putt, I'm afraid. Wie apparently can't see (Vertigo?) As usual, it'll be a player who needs their caddy to line up every shot that wins the title. Can't wait until that's against the rules of Golf. #LexiGotRobbed

I didn't know anything about Jessica Korda until this year but after hearing about her jaw surgery I am happy to see her do well. That sounded like a terrible ordeal.

I watched here on an off for a couple of years. Like many other players there are times she's on and others.....

 

On the other hand I've never followed here on the European tour - perhaps she's better or more consistent there?

Can't believe all of my favs are either down the leaderboard or cut! Lexi is the closest but she'd have to have an extraordinary day (I think last year is giving her the yips with her putter)
