DMV Local Golf Talk, Meetups, etc

Our Sponsors

Just returned to my computer, so this is my first opportunity to thank GolfSpy Rob, GolfSpy Studque and MDGolfHacker for an enjoyable 9 holes of golf and for putting up with an old coot.   Remember, ya'll are still youngsters to me.   While it is great to see new members from any locale, the growing number from the Maryland, Virginia and DC area is particularly great to see.  I am hopeful that local outings can be arranged be they impromptu or scheduled.  While one may or may not play their best golf, the one thing I know with certainty is that it will be a good time with good people.

If there was such a thing as a DMV division membership card, based on my experience, perhaps the motto should be: Have Clubs, Will Travel.

That's too rich for my blood too. I was thinking more like $1 things....but we can always just enjoy a day on the course too without those. The CTPs are thrown in with the greens fees since Rob worked

Had to read your post to understand how DMV (department of motor vehicles) came to be connected to golf . Sorry I'm from the Midwest.     Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

Tomorrow, my buds and I will be playing our initial round at our routine venue in Cambridge, the River Marsh.  As some of my buds here know, me and the 17th hole just don't get along.  It is a somewhat long Par 3 totally over water.   A few months ago, I was surprised to receive a sleeve of Titleist Velocity balls in the mail.  One of them was pink, so I am taking it with me to use on 17.   While I would still like to defeat that @#$% hole, if I lose a pink ball to the water, I won't mind as much.   Now if I were to par the hole, I'm just not sure that I could continue playing with a pink ball.

I want to see an Ace with that ball and you posing with it in Instagram. Don't worry I'll come take the pic and post it for you

Now if I were to par the hole, I'm just not sure that I could continue playing with a pink ball.

On the Myrtle Beach trip I used to go on, the guy with the low net score (we played Stableford to encourage people to pick up) would get a sleeve of pink balls that they had to play the next day. Bonus points for each ball you brought back.

As I noted previously, my buds and I played the River Marsh.    Had, for me, a very good round, I shot an 84.  I played 17 holes rather well, only had one bad experience, so to speak.  Can anyone guess which hole?    I'm thinking based on some law of physics, the Choptank river is a bit higher proportionate to the size of a pink golf ball.

Congrats on the great round!!

I almost had a heart attack, i thought it read.  "I played HOLE 17 rather well"   I was about to say...that's twice now, pretty soon you are going to own that "be-atch!!:"    So how bad was the damage there, double?

Now it must be remembered that my buds and I play from the senior tees.  The damage was a double, but I had a couple of compensating birdies on other holes.   The course now has what could be labeled as super senior tees, pretty much what some would label the ladies tees because they were typically in the same tee area.  On hole 17, those tees are on the other side of the water from a differing angle.   Couldn't talk the buds into playing them, not even on that one hole.   I think hole 17 and I have become a form of entertainment for my buds.

Hey there DMV golfers, Golfinvegas (formerly Golfinnova) John checking in, just brousing and came across some familiar names.

Glad to see the DMV thread and find my friends from the old GC forums. Played a lot of rounds with GolfSpy Rob, MdGolfHacker and TheWahoo, great set of guys.

Hard to believe it's already been 10 years since we left Ashburn for the bright lights of Vegas. Good thing is I get to play year round but I get so busy with life that I haven't played as much as I would like.

If anyone is making the trip out here anytime soon and looking for a discount at Paiute, give me a shout and I'll hook you up.

Have a good one!

This is so crazy. I was honestly talking about you this week. Wondering how things were going with you. 10 years!! Makes me feel older than I'd like. Ha

So glad you checked in. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum and will definitely let you know if I ever make it out that way. I've heard great things about Paiute.

That is wild, I was wondering what site you guys were on so I was checking THP, WRX, etc. and just stumbled across the thread today.

Pretty much done with the other sites, they've turned into what the GC forums became. So it's good I can catch up on what outings you guys are playing this year.

Yep. I've been here two years and it's honestly the best group of members and the best run forum of them all. No drama or trolling around here.

Lotsof guys have come over from the other places. Our local contingent here is growing.

That is good, missed the old group when we were having outings at Mattaponi, Renditions, etc.

I joined a club out here (Silverstone) which went downhill and later closed and been a member of Paiute ever since. Don't have a steady group to play with, just a couple of guys I work with, play more with my wife and enjoy it more with her. Kids get out of school on 24th so we'll have early rounds together while they play their video games.

Sounds like it's time for a DMV trip to Vegas

Great to have you aboard Golfin. I'm sad we didn't hook up while you were in town. But then again, I wasn't even playing golf 10 years ago.

Yep. Golfinnova/Vegas was around when we used to have regular monthly outings with usually at least 12 guys coming out.

MDGolfhacker took the lead in planning alot of them, we called him our Julie McCoy (you may have to Google that one Stud). He also took great photos then as well. He'd show up looking like a photographer, covering the Masters. Then he went and had kids and I took over some of the organizing. Good memories. Mainly because I was younger and could hit more than 210 yards. Ha

Lol, that is so true about MdGolfHacker. He would do such a great job in organizing the outings. That is something that I miss the most out here because it doesn't exist being a 24-hour town.

I'm trying to organize a summer league with my co-workers where we would play different courses but it will never get to the 12+ person outings we had back then. Every now and then I play the Vegas Golf Tour which is a cool relaxed par +3 max league and a Meetup group.

Yep. We've yet to have more than a foursome of Spies together. But I'm bound and determined to make that happen this year.

There's been some good talk about some small get-togethers. So we'll see how it goes.

It is great to see your post, my friend, it brings back some great memories of our days years ago.   Back during my younger single days, my buds and I would hit Vegas at least 3 to 4 times a year.  However, back then the Tropicana was at one end of the strip and the Sahara at the other, the Dunes was still across the street from the MGM, now Balleys.   My last trip to Vegas was for an educational conference a few years ago.   Because I was with some physicians, I was able to parasite them for a comp to Shadow Creek.   I often wondered what it would be like if there were casinos back home.  Now that they are, I have never been in one--time and age changes you, my friend, time and age changes you.   Perhaps, some would call it maturity.

Going good bud, glad to hear from you. Anytime you want to come out, let me know and bring your sticks. I can hook you up on discounts on rooms at either mine or wife's casino and rounds at Paiute.

Good to hear from you friend. Miss the days of riding together and you cracking jokes while making sick short game shots.

Shadow Creek has been one course I haven't played yet; although, it will happen one day probably once kids get out of school and I'm not paying astronomical fees for soccer clubs.
