Big Sunday for England. Euro win over Switzerland (sorry @GolfSpy_APH) and Hamilton win in F1!  I bet lots of Pints were consumed yesterday!

Enjoyed the race today, Norris added some drama at the end and McLaren lucked out that Max hit Hamilton or else I'm not sure that window to let Piastri by would have been there. 

Also, I can't believe Verstappen was not penalized.  Max once again tried to dive bomb Hamilton on the inside, carried more speed into the corner than the car could handle except this time Lewis committed to maintaining the racing line instead of braking or running wide to avoid getting t-boned.

IMO, the trailing driver should have to make a clean pass not put the lead driver into a position where he has to run off track or slam on his brakes to avoid getting hit.

Reminds me of playing gran Turismo as a kid where you just go full speed into the corner and then slam into a car at the corner and bounce off him to make the turn

Agreed. Shocked he didn't get a penalty. Lewis had no where else do go. If max arrives under control maybe a different story but that was brutal. Wouldn't be surprised if Horner gave max the ultimatum of "quit sim racing or else".

Decent race even tho it was mostly team drama.

Believe for long run speed RB has the speed compared to others as that even showed with Perez coming thru the field as he did... Max just didn't have great calls this weekend form the pit wall team which is probably why he was frustrated losing time he couldn't control. As a driver I 100% get that and don't believe the sim racing had anything to do with it... That's a mute point and just a media thing.

I am quite glad to see Mclaren doing so good tho! I enjoy seeing actual racing even if there is contact as long as it is "safe" but hard racing

Spoiler Alert … 

Damn, what a great race that mainly entertained on strategy and pit-stops. Oscar overshooting his pit-stop def cost him close to 2 secs there and likely the race. If only the race was another 1-2 laps longer.

The later start zone for DRS def affected the limited passing though. 

Russell is a great driver. Toto and Mercedes look like they’re going to be strong for the rest of the season. Lewis switching teams next season should be entertaining. McLaren again possibly missing out on a win due to either poor strategy or pit-stop. Standings are getting tighter. 

Finally, the post summer break portion of the F1 season is looking very entertaining.

I honestly feel bad for Russell now. Has had 2 wins basically taken from him due to fa tors out of his control.

Great race besides that! I beliece Mclaren are now learning strategy means alot with learning to do…

How do we all feel about Carlos Sainz to Williams?! I'm not entirely surprised he ended up there. I do think Williams has a promising future with James Vowles leading the charge. Would've been cool to see him be the face of Audi starting in 2026 though

@Byrnzee surprised but not surprised. Still curious to see who's gonna fill the Merc seat. With how competitive they've been it would be a shame to put someone in there that wouldn't help the team push for a constructors 

 

Hope they can push a bit next year with those two

@LeakyValve I feel like Kimi is essentially a lock for the Merc seat at this point. He looked pretty comfortable in the garage all weekend and Toto seems to be a big fan

I agree with this. I don't know if he is ready for a top team but think he should get a chance. At the same time his name has faded out of the spotlight with others incoming and of course current drivers moving around.

I know he's been doing some testing for Alpine's Endurance Team so I wouldn't be shocked if they bring him in there! I agree with @JAYER38 that I think he deserves another shot in F1

I thought that exactly, Sainz going to Audi seemed like the logical move … but I’d also imagine that Binotto’s new role as team principal likely affected that. (Which as an unabashed Audi/VW/Porsche fanboy, that annoys the hell out of me … awful move imo by the Audi F1 team)

At the same time, I’m really hoping that Williams is currently the McLaren of 3 to 4 years ago. A team on the upswing and kinda get the sense that they could be looking like the McLaren of today and disrupting the current established pecking order in a few short years. 

I think the Williams move was likely the best option, if not Merc … but they’ve got so many young drivers in their system.

I think Carlos taking so long to make his decision had a negative impact on his options - seems like Audi got tired of waiting for him. I'm gonna go against the grain a bit and say that I don't see Williams moving up the order in the next few seasons, but from what I've read it sounds like Sainz has a few outs in his contract if the team is underperforming, so it might just be a stepping stone for him until a seat opens up at another top team.

I don't think that is the case at all.  Can almost guarantee Sauber/Audi would have loved to have him still.  He looked at a team that is in dead last currently, hasn't scored a point this year, and is on a downward trend after barely avoiding finishing last in 2023.  The earth doesn't change when they rebrand as Audi in 2026, is going to be the same team with a little more money and a new name on the door.  Combine that with driving a car that will feature a new unproven engine supplier and you've got the potential to be sitting at the back of the grid for a long time.  

My guess is Sainz deal is only through 2026 which is when a lot of the other driver's contacts expire and he can reevaluate his options for getting into a front running car at that time.  Right now there is probably a 0.01% chance Sauber ends up at the front of the grid in 2026.

Williams on the other hand had shown improvement nearly every year since the family sold the team and is building up their facilities to get even more competitive.  I think Williams could be where McLaren is today come 2026.  Especially if  Mercedes nails the engine regs again like they did in 2014.

What did everyone think of the Zandvoort race?

McLaren have forsure found there stride and seems to be able to run long on just about any set of tires. I had a good feeling Lando would take the W by a long shot after a 3 tenth advantage in quali.

Also hear rumors of Lawson going to Williams which I am very happy to hear! I believe he has the talent to be a great mid field driver & Williams are trending in the right directions while others not so much.

Has Newey confirmed where he is going??

Lawson to Williams this year? I thought Sainz was confirmed for 25. And Helmut said Lawson would be in an RB next year. Just not sure which one. 

 

Rumor I heard about Newey was alot of money to go to Aston. 

 

Go papaya. Saw an interesting article on this clever little way that Red bull was running their read brakes. Sort of like a G force brake line plunger that would change the left/right brake balance when the car was turning. I read that it was found out about before Miami and since then they haven't been on form. Yes max has won some but that's why checo has been so far off the pace

I know he has been bad, like really bad. However still feel bad for him...  I am sure he really wanted to at least get to COTA.

Agreed - I'm not surprised he got the boot, but I am surprised it happened at this point in the season.

Guess that final very big crash ended him early. Don't think they wanted to move him but at some point it does get expensive and hate to say it but he hasn't been close to Albon much at all pace wise.

Williams has been in the news alot here recently with driver selection and now I see a good bit about Mick and Liam so it will be interesting in the coming year or 2.

Also seeing alot of technical stuff coming out for the McLaren as people are now looking hard at there car seeing as it does not lose any pace when outfront or p2  but seems to struggle in traffic a good bit.

The RB drop in pace seems like it's been crazy. Wouldn't be surprised if McLaren is maybe doing something funky but I hope not. As a McLaren fan not I'm glad they're winning. Been along time coming aha

Glad a little bit ago, Haas finally made it official that Ocon will be driving for them for a few years.  Hope Haas can make some more improvements for next year.   Just wish Gunther Steiner was still there.

Although entertaining, I think Gunther might have been part of the problem.

I haven't been really following Formula 1 except belatedly on Netflix.

Disappointing how the Packard and Stutz teams have not been keeping up.

I wish there were more teams entered by actual motorcar manufacturers like Ferrari and Mercedes Benz,

and fewer entered by energy drink companies.

I honestly think Gene Hass is part of the major issue here... Even if you look at NASCAR as a team owner he has no real success until Tony Stuart became part owner. Just don't believe he knows where to allocate resources for results. Obviously 1 heck of a business owner/operator
