Need Help With My Backswing!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, long story short I messed my back up a few months ago and unbeknownst to me, I no longer am taking a full backswing. My buddies pointed it out a couple of weeks ago. Any tips or tricks as far as drills or exercises to get a full rotation back??

It could be a number of reasons like flat shoulder turn, arms only swing. Without a video there be no way to say why it’s happening or what drill would fix it.

like @RickyBobby_PR said its hard to diagnose without video what might be happening. With that said, a shorter backswing isn't always a bad thing and often doesn't result in the power loss (if any) that most golfers believe it will cause.

Are you losing distance or do you have a shot shape you don't like? If neither answer is yes, then don't worry about it. Otherwise try working on your flexibility with yoga general stretching.

Agreed with above posters. Is it hurting your game or now are you out of whack? It might cause more consistency having a shorter back swing since most of us over do it chasing distance.

Back problems and shorter swings seem to go together; at least it does for me.  A shorter backswing than the one you had could mess up your tempo, but a shorter backswing may not be a bad thing.  Many golfers that have a "full" backswing don't use it efficiently and can lose speed over a shorter, more efficient swing.  Rahm and Finau do pretty well with shorter backswings.

You could start working on tempo and rhythm using the 9 to 3 drill, then slowly start lengthening the backswing.  Of course, depending on what your back problems are, stretches and a swing trainer like the Orange Whip or Skilz Gold Flex will help.
