Jean D
I play the Taylormade TP5 (2024) at the moment. Trying the TP5x today and tomorrow to compare. Testing is being done in my local indoor sim facility… When I last tried the TP5x (2023 version), it felt like hitting a rock and I could not get any sort of proper launch angle on it, no matter which club I used. tribota
I’ve just finished hitting both the Chrome Tour and Tour X. Overall, I liked both. To me the differences were subtle, but noticeable. The Tour X does spin more, on all shots, but didn’t seem to over spin like a Srixon XV. It was more similar to a ProV1X. The Chrome Tour was my favorite of the two. To me, it was longer off the tee, and spun well enough on iron shots, pitches, and chipping variations. Similar to the new ProV1. I went back to the Left Dash this past round (my regular ball), and by far, it was longer than both. However, it spun less than both the Chrome Tour and Tour X. Obviously. Outside of the numerous variables, I’d say I was really pleased with the new Callaway balls. Not sure I’d switch from the Left Dash, but I’m considering the Chrome Tour for a season. I've been gaming the Chrome Tour and haven't had durability issues. Current ball is about 3 rounds in, but I'll probably be taking it out of play because the dimples are wearing down enough to cause the ball to fly higher. But no scuffs or anything like that. I had bad durability issues on the first Chrome Soft XLS version (white box). A clean wedge strike would take a literal chunk off the cover. Thankfully they fixed that pretty quickly and I've been impressed by the new Tour. kajaar
In 2023, my go-to ball was the Chrome Soft X LS for its reduced off-the-tee spin, but it felt too hard around the greens compared to the standard Chrome Soft, which performed better on and around greens. Despite gaming CSXLS for the whole year, my handicap decreased during the year. For 2024, I aim to maintain low spin while retaining a soft feel for short shots. Thus, I've opted for the Titleist AVX (2022 version from a clearance sale), which offers superior feel on short chips and putts. Hopefully, I'll be able to test it on the course once they open.
