What Golf Ball Are You Playing In 2024?

Recommended Posts

I can’t remember where I read it, but playing the same ball was found to garner better results for the year. If you aren’t going to play the same, use ones that are similar in their makeup. This will help keep spin and flight close to what you are playing that year to not mess you up. But again, I’m not sure where I read this at

Its sound advice. Unfortunately,  I have not found a gamer that excites me yet for this year.

The most consistent has been the previous chrome soft TT though.  I have no brand loyalty so to speak, and that leaves me in a Flux at this time.

I play the chrome soft and find it really consistent

I play the Taylormade TP5 (2024) at the moment.  Trying the TP5x today and tomorrow to compare.  Testing is being done in my local indoor sim facility… When I last tried the TP5x (2023 version), it felt like hitting a rock and I could not get any sort of proper launch angle on it, no matter which club I used. Results as I get them.

While playing yesterday I was getting zero check on wedges with the Maxfli Tour S. Pulled out a ProV1 and hit the same shot and it would hop and stop. Might be doing some testing this season with the Bridgestone BX and new TP5 series on the top of the list

Oh Boy did I put my foot in my mouth. Yesterday the Qstar tour divide balls performed for me! Had some of.my best drives and short game shots! If I can manage to hold onto them, they may be my next goto ball for 2024!

Granted, most of these are from a ball retirieval company I helped out, and I've sorted them by brand.  Most are nearly new. Some I've tried and didn't care for, some I've yet to try.  (Ignore the open box it was for another post) I do have few new sleeves back there too.

I’ve just finished hitting both the Chrome Tour and Tour X. Overall, I liked both. To me the differences were subtle, but noticeable. The Tour X does spin more, on all shots, but didn’t seem to over spin like a Srixon XV. It was more similar to a ProV1X.
The Chrome Tour was my favorite of the two. To me, it was longer off the tee, and spun well enough on iron shots, pitches, and chipping variations. Similar to the new ProV1.
I went back to the Left Dash this past round (my regular ball), and by far, it was longer than both. However, it spun less than both the Chrome Tour and Tour X. Obviously.
Outside of the numerous variables, I’d say I was really pleased with the new Callaway balls. Not sure I’d switch from the Left Dash, but I’m considering the Chrome Tour for a season.

I got a free box of those from the golf show and have yet to give them a whack

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

I won a free dozen from the Club OnCore Facebook group, but I only got to play it for one hole before my season ended.  I was playing the X2 for the majority of the year though conventional wisdom says I should play X1.  Sounds like they are trying to split the difference with the P so hopefully it works.

Great, and valid, point. I did have one scuff, but it was well deserved scuff (hooked shot onto a cart path). Im not sure any ball would have survived that 🤣. Other than that, I haven’t noticed any unusual scuffing, but great observation.

haha must be something about them and cart paths, I blasted one on to some pavement as well 😆

However, I used up 2 more during the round, and that was just regular play, no bouncy trips down paths. The wedges and irons seemed to do a number on them.

I have some left dash that look better after two rounds, than these do after 6-8 holes..

I'm gaming the new Callaway Chrome Tour this year! Picked up a box of the buy 3 get 1 free deal. Last year my favorite ball wall the Chrome Soft X LS, and from my understanding, the Chrome Tour is very close to a 1 for 1 rebranding of this ball. My only complaint is that the b3g1 deal only comes in Triple Track, as I greatly prefer the TruTrack alignment option. It's fun seeing the ball spin as well.

Dang, that's no bueno! I've been gaming the Chrome Tour and haven't had durability issues. Current ball is about 3 rounds in, but I'll probably be taking it out of play because the dimples are wearing down enough to cause the ball to fly higher. But no scuffs or anything like that.

I had bad durability issues on the first Chrome Soft XLS version (white box). A clean wedge strike would take a literal chunk off the cover. Thankfully they fixed that pretty quickly and I've been impressed by the new Tour.

In 2023, my go-to ball was the Chrome Soft X LS for its reduced off-the-tee spin, but it felt too hard around the greens compared to the standard Chrome Soft, which performed better on and around greens. Despite gaming CSXLS for the whole year, my handicap decreased during the year.

For 2024, I aim to maintain low spin while retaining a soft feel for short shots. Thus, I've opted for the Titleist AVX (2022 version from a clearance sale), which offers superior feel on short chips and putts. Hopefully, I'll be able to test it on the course once they open.

To get ready for the upcoming season I tested 4 different golf balls:

1 - Ol' faithful Titleist Pro V1

2 - Wilson Triad

3 - Callaway Chromesoft X LS

4 - Vice Pro

After analyzing all the data I decided to go with the Vice Pro. I got a little more height out of it and got a little more spin off my driver. The Pro V1 was longer but can't justify the price for the little bump in performance.

Have you played any with the Chrome Tour ball? I have gamed the CS X LS ball and had huge gains off the tee. Since it is being replaced I am going to get some boxes for stock and try the Chrome Tour and maybe the Left Dash as well.

I've had great consistency with Titleist AVX and it will remain my go-to for moments where I want to use my nicest golf balls.  Although I feel like I saw/heard they made updates to it during the off-season, so I'll have to keep an eye out for any experienced differences.
