She and her friend were eyeing the PING  drivers in our shop.  I tried my best to sell her one.   So  Bob would have clearance for his next buy. Isn’t that what we do for each other

Our weather was beautiful here in SW MO this past weekend and perfect for walking 18 holes.  I arrived at the course Saturday morning to discover I had left my putter in the living room where I had been practicing.  I shot 79 using a lob wedge or borrowing a putter from someone in my group.  Sunday I shot 77 with my putter in the bag.  I was 1 over at the turn but got into a bogey run on our Amen Corner, which consists of 3 tough par 4's and a tough par 3.

Likely the final round of the year, I put my daughter on the bus and ripped around 18 in 2 hours.

77 from the back tees, 38/39 and 2 birdies.

I wish I could have ended the season on a high note with the success I've had with the LAB MEZZ.1.   The good news is, the biggest struggle of my game, iron play was solid with 13/18 greens.

Exec 9’s Monday & Tuesday morning.  Nothing terrific Monday, +5.  Tuesday hit ball much better with couple birds +2.  No golf Wednesday or possibly longer than that until Storm Ian blows their Florida.

OK have not posted in here in a while but have been playing, and.... finally (at long long last ) have some *good* golf news to report:

Tied my 1-time only previously 9-hole low of 41
... and did it with a PB low of 13 putts  
(@ Shark River in NJ; White tees 69.4/123 and 3,133 yds front 9)

4 bogeys
3 pars
1 birdie (one ok tee shot, one good approach, one really good putt!)
1 double on a Par 5 (tee shot ended up under some evergreen trees .. had to punch punch out .. duffed the next shot after that .. SIX shots altogether to get onto the green...)

Hit driver off the tee .. not well, but only got into bad trouble that once; and most approach shots were very near to their intended targets. Putting was definitely a highlight - greens were reasonably quick but a little bumpy from traffic in the afternoon - I rolled 5 x 1-putts and grazed the edges on another 3 putts leaving the ball at about 2 feet or less. 

Lessons , Monte clinic and practice all starting to show some progress!

Great round @cksurfdude! Congratulations on tying your previous best score over 9 holes. Sounds like all the work you've been putting in is starting to pay off and that putt total is phenomenal.

That sounds like the right attitude .. and try to keep in mind not to expect too much of yourself, too quickly .. when golf is not your full-time job but a sometime pastime...

(Later on when you become a retired old fart like me and have lots of time to practice and play, then you can get frustrated when you still suck )

Went out for a late round with my wife and her brother from Seattle.  Birdie, Birdie start immediately followed by a Double!!    For some reason I hit a pull hook into the pond, and I never do that!!  On #5 my BIL had to bail; started feeling ill and it was pretty warm out.  We finished off the rest of the front 9 and went home to check on him.  I finished off the front 9 with another Double on #8 and a bogey on #9.  This Double was a "too good" 6i off the tee to the back fringe with the pin in the front followed by a 2-chip and 2-putt.  However, a 40 on the par 37 front has been a good score for me.  The good news is that I hit some of the best iron shots with my MacGregors that I've hit all year; very happy with that.

FIR: 9/14 for 64%

GIR: 5/18 for 28%

Putts: 32

Had trouble with my eyes on front 9 they stayed full of water so I couldn’t get a clear focus on the ball. They were dry on back 9.

All good things must come to an end, I guess. Last night wasn't really a bad round with the driver, but not nearly as good as it has been for the last couple weeks and also included the first lost ball off the driver in a looong time. Irons and chipping kept the evening from being potentially really bad, but putting was a disaster. 20 official putts, 21 if you count the putt from the fringe, including another 4-putt on the most severe green on this particular course. It was dumb - I was way too nonchalant with third putt, treating it like a tap-in when it clearly was not. Normally I average 15-16 putts for 9 hole rounds, so taking 4-5 strokes off my +9 makes it a good round for me. I was +9 thru 6 holes when I finally pulled my head out of my a$$ and started putting better. I finished with 3 pars. I don't know if it is something mechanical or mental, but either way my pace has been terrible for a couple weeks. I'm half tempted to bench the StrokeLab and bust out my old Ping to see what happens. Friday afternoon @DiscipleofPenick and I are playing a course that arguably has the best (and fastest) greens in Akron. In my opinion, you can include many of the private courses in the discussion, too (at least that I have played). The greens are fantastic at this joint. It's not a place you want to go when you are struggling, but our tee time is at 1 and I'll be off work around 11, so I'll have plenty of time to practice.

shot well today but this time with the sub zero Mavrik. I think it’s a hair longer than the rogue max D, but not as perfectly centered every fricking drive. Irons hit well today too, but the putter didn’t drop anything longer than expected. Those killer rounds always have a few birds that were unexpected, and most of the ones that are expected. It’s like those pesky 8 footers that fall in a good round, or lip out on the grimace rounds that makes ya mutter a bunch of “if-only’s!”

I wrote this yesterday, but forgot to hit send. Todays round fits into the same box, so what the heck. Yesterdays score was lower tho. Todays score was plus 4 after 5, and that included a birdie haha. Then finished the round even with a couple birds and bougs after that. The sub zero Mavrik nailed a few today, but I still want that rogue. Forcing myself to wait for a fitting, and the new Callaway offering.

My course was wide open this afternoon and made it around in less than 3 hours... 

 

This was is where my approach ended up on the Par 5 15th - looking back down the fairway. 

I have been practicing my narrow stance, shoulders only, 1/2 and 3/4 swing shots with my wedges from 100 and in to dial in the distances.  After a driver and a 3 wood to 70 yards short of the green - I used a 1/2 swing 54 to hit a low spinner.  Hard to see but the ball mark is pin high on the right side of the picture, took a small hop forward and spun back toward the pin finishing below the hole.  Tap in birdie.

This is the picture I accidently took while getting my phone out of my pocket.  I added it because some might be able to tell what I was using on the greens today.

I made several lengthy putts to save par (8-12 foot range) and on the 18th I rolled in a 20 footer from the fringe the close the round with a birdie.  

I am taking a day off work tomorrow to go play Memorial Park - home of the Houston Open in November (before they close to prep for the tourney).  Should be fun!

Played 7 holes today by myself…in preparation for my league playoff match  tomorrow.
 

thankfully I was the only person on the entire course.  So nobody else could see me absolutely unable  to make clean contact with anything on the ground.   Driver was fine, par 3 on tee is fine.  But the depth perception from my eyes just isn’t there yet for irons.   What’s the penalty for teeing it up in the Fairways

it’s a shame as I’m hitting driver really well right now.  Putting is interesting. I close one eye while getting the line.  But have both open tskingy the  stroke.   I putted decently today .   But Tuesday in a scramble I putted  very well.  
 

So I just have to find s way to get to the green.  Simple right?

... One of the things I miss about teaching, is showing a student a drill or a particular move and then realizing my swing was starting to slip and the drill/move not only helped my student but helped me too. Like a lawyer with a fool for a client defending themselves, it is pretty amazing how I can diagnose a budding problem with a student but not myself, until it becomes a real issue. Yesterday commenting on bens197's most excellent swing I mentioned how I tend to over use my body to protect my back. Cognizant of that today I focused on using my body less and basically casting immediately to start the downswing. I had the best ball striking, full swing day in a long time. I hit driver to several places I haven't seen on this course and it was just a fun in sync feeling. 

... Played in front of a high school tournament and the greens were much faster than they have been with some pins in some difficult but fair spots so I shot a 69 and lipped out a birdie putt on 17 to shoot under my age. I was hitting the ball so well I found myself above the hole too many times and with the speed of the greens I had to putt defensively. Just in time for a big scramble at WeKoPa, the #1 public course in AZ Friday. Lunch, drinks, dinner and swag so I am hoping one more round tomorrow has me on an upswing heading into Friday.
