This is my winter driving range. I easily have over 2000 balls up there to pick up after the snow melts. Gotta love Wisconsin.

Several weeks ago now, I walked over to the edge of the island green, the fringe is steeply sloped, and there is a four foot wooden wall that theoretically will look like number 17 TPC Sawgrass but the water is down 10 feet right now. But I was walking over to get a line on my putt, planning on standing on the 12 inch wide wooden top rail, but my shoes hit the wet grass and slid down the slope and my feet were about head high, I am told, when I disappeared over the side.

 

Luckily, my airborne training took over, and I tucked my chin on my chest and landed on my back in the mud and my head did not strike the huge rock that was directly under it. As I was lying there gaining my composure I saw the rest of my foursome looking over the edge to see if they needed to call 911. They were incredibly tall from that vantage point. I do not recall but I do not think I made the putt. I remember being really shaky.

 

I had to play 9 more holes with my back covered in mud and actually ended up playing 18 more. However, once it dried it was not that bad.

I fell out of a jeep going about 30 mph on the asphalt while in college. As soon as I realized my options were to be run over by the rear tire, which was rubbing my back or totally exit the vehicle (I estimate it took o.2 seconds to make that decision). I kicked off and assumed a proper PLF position (armyese for parachute landing fall) and smacked the tarmac. I have no idea how many times I rolled and had pretty good road rash on both elbows, knees, hips, shoulders, and forearms, but climbed back into the jeep when he came back for me. I may have mentioned his heritage and intelligence as well as his driving skills but I had no serious injuries.

 

You literally spend 2 weeks maybe 100 times a day jumping off of stationary and moving and progressively higher obstacles before you jump out of your first plane. Your neck is so sore that you have to lift your head with your hands to get out of bed, before daylight. But it simply becomes habit.
