  1. Well, that's some compromise; a few hours drive vs 5 hours in a plane and 3 time zones. However, once things settle down, I could be talked into a trip east later in the summer. IMO wife and I are driving to LA in 3 weeks to attend Monte's clinic; 1000 miles. I want to attend his clinic early so I have all summer to screw it up. Only 6 students for 3 days; my wife and I and 4 others. Should be fun.

    How'd you play?

... I have a playing pard this winter from Chicago. He is 49 and seriously long. I am giving up about 20 years and considerable length. One of the biggest differences between us is when I hit a bad tee shot I am usually in play. His bad tee shots are so long they bring stuff into play I can't reach. We play a short uphill par 4 that requires a 280yd carry over water to drive the green OR a long iron over the right side of the water that is a 220 carry for a LW in OR lay up short of the water leaving 110-120yds to the flag. He hits driver occasionally, 2 iron quite often and hit some spectacular shots as well as some marginal shots that have ended up in bogie or higher. Depending on the wind I hit an 8 or 7 iron short of the water which he always yells "BORING" as soon as I make contact. I have probably birdied it 10 times with 1 bogie and the rest pars and I have not found any of those boring. For 18 holes we have tied several times but his exciting has not beat my boring yet.

  5. It never ends... i received my TS2 16.5* on Friday, the 19* and 21* hybrids aren’t coming for another 3 weeks because the shaft is back ordered, and I’m already debating whether to switch out to a 7 wood... Any thoughts you have on the matter would be appreciated. I know you’ve tried a club or two in your day, and from prior conversations I know we hit the ball similar distances...

  9. Absolutely. With a few other local spies that are around here, we could have a mini-outing

  10. Lots of thoughts..just no recent experience since I haven’t swung a club in almost 3 months. 7 wood is an absolute must for anyone in our swing demographic. I have the G410 and it is the longest running club in my bag. 2 years now. i also have the TSi 16.5 but it just came in before i got sick, so no experience with it. I ordered the TSi1 driver and hybrid in 20 and 24 last week. They will be in March. I’ll compare them to the Srixon ZX 24 degree that came in and is still untouched in my office You can see I have a lot of catching up to do. Ha

  11. it’s a wonderful and dangerous thing when two club ho’s put their heads together on new iron purchases

  12. @cksurfdude is smarter than the average ho, Kenny. Let me explain how this all went down... I mentioned somewhere here how I wished I had known PXG was coming out with a new version of the 0211’s, this time with stronger lofts, as distance with the old version was not what I was getting from my old irons. So CK pm’ed me and he said he was interested in them also. I told him I knew how this would end up on my end. Once I’m “interested” it’s only a matter of when I buy, not if. CK said he was very happy to hear this, because he wanted me to be the guinea pig and report back to him, lol. Sure enough, I sold my set on eBay and ordered the new ones. We continued to talk and after mine arrived, I told him I thought he’d like them as much as I did. He seems like a great guy, and he lives on Long Island which is where I lived all my life before retiring down south. I’m hoping they work well for him... We both took a chance on a very good deal, but we had to trust the phone fittings we got because these are DTC only. Maybe when I’m up there on the Island this summer we can get together and get them nice and dirty out on one of the local munis...

I am not even sure why it was sloppy today. It hasn't really been raining excessively or anything. Made a mistake and stood in a some sinking mud on a tee box and actually swung and miss. Also fell down once (not swinging, just walking) on a hill.

  14. So I didn't buy it, but my fiancé did for my birthday at my request. I'm getting a new Ping Hoofer Lite to actually make walking more courses a thing this year, and if she starts playing she pay take my push cart. I love her a lot, she's really great. Oh, I guess I also bought the SIK Flo from my putter fitting thread since last I jumped in here as well.

  15. Low tee and upward angle means you are hitting the bottom of the face which generates spin. More spin = more height. Add in a fade swing and even more spin. Still not sure how with a ball teed low and a sub 8* loft you are launching too high even with too Much spin.

    How'd you play?

... A turing point for me was A Sorenstam in her prime said if she is not positive she can hit the shot 80% of the time she will not attempt it. Announcer asked her what if it is a 75% chance and she responded "then I don't try it." I thought if the best female player on the planet won't try a 50-50 shot why in the world am I attempting to pull it off?

  20. I say you guys compromise and meet in Maryland FWIW I’ve hosted Monte’s DC/Balt clinic at my course the last 3 years—2020 was cancelled. It’s usually in October.

  21. @cksurfdude and I have been carrying on PM conversations for the past couple of years on a lot of topics. We were scheduled to attend one of Monte's clinics in CA last April, but then COVID... We have a mission to get together somewhere, someplace. It will happen, hopefully sooner than later. One of us has to make a trip across the country, or we meet in the middle. I'm happy that Chuck has met the clubs of his dreams. Now I will have to play really well, or he will beat me.

That may be part of my handicap... my soft spot for the "I can pull this off" . I understand statistics pretty well, just not so much while on a golf course.

  27. Its something Adam and I have talked about for a while. It’s not impossible but a lot of logistics involved to do it right. But I’ll keep plugging away In the meantime we encourage all areas to organize local outings. There are seceral a year that already tske place. We had one in MD 2 years ago that got about 12 guys if we could do an official MGS one near HQ i think we could easily get 30 to 40 to make it. Thats just from the Forum if it were promoted on the blog You’d have to close the borders to VA

    How'd you play?

I wasn't sure about playing this weekend after getting my 2nd C-19 shot on Thursday. After hitting some balls at the range on Friday, I decided to give it a go even though I ached all over. My wife wanted to play so I sucked it up... and on Saturday I certainly sucked!! Shot 88 with a couple of doubles, a triple and a quad. Just nothing worked. Today was a little warmer but breezy. I felt a little better. Managed an 81... 42/39 with a birdie on #10. The #10 hole is one of two holes that I failed to birdie in 2020, but this birdie was my second on this hole this year and it's not even March!! Go figure. I also had two birdie putts lip out. Overall my putting was much better today than Saturday, however I am still hitting lousy drives and approaches. Today I only hit 7/13 fairways and they didn't go my usual distance. Only 3 GIR, but that was better than one green yesterday!! I need to spend a LOT of time on the range this week.

I worked with the WSGA course rating team when they were here 5 years ago. One of the conditions for rating a course is turf conditions. Aren't conditions in Seattle area always sloppy; so that should be taken into account.

... We all have our excuses. If I start posting scores my index will jump about 3-4 strokes. These muni Bermuda greens are just brutal. I love the course but the greens are hard to read to begin with and they wander on short putts or when the ball slows down around the hole because using a very technical term, the grass is splotchy. I have never missed so many 2-4 footers that start on line then move one way or the other several times on it's journey like putting on a Chinese Checkerboard. After holing out we sometimes hit multiple putts from the same spot and they never do the same thing twice. The only time you can be aggressive is on uphill into the grain putts. With Phoenix courses costing $150-250 playing this beautiful muni lay out for $22 is too good a deal to pass up, even with splotchy greens. ... If the greens are repaired, I will have to find another excuse because the weather is ideal.

  33. I'm vertically challenged too so all golf shots look high to me! My theory for golfers at our level is if your swing creates successful shots don't mess too much with it, just make it more repeatable!

I am taking 1,3, and 8. With those options most of the others can happen or aren’t relevant. For example I’ll pass on 300 yard drives if I can hit every green. Then no three putts eliminates anything worse than par and lost balls unless I am a horrible putter and putt into a hazard. I am just too analytical [emoji3166]

  37. Very nice day in the PNW today. Sunny and pushing 60. And I didn't have a game. So, off to the range. Took my 7 iron and driver, along with 2 alignment sticks. Goal was to mainly work on weight shift, balance in the finish. Started off using the 7 iron and a step through drill to get a solid feel of getting to the left side and hips fully clearing. After several minutes of doing this, began easy full 7 iron shots, trying to focus on smooth and fluid swings (i.e. no jerking from the top, no off balance finishes). Also focusing on maintaining my angles at impact. This really help promote the feel of clearing the hips and produced some very solid shots and soft draws. After working on this for awhile, I moved to the driver to work on the same objectives. Had to really focus hard on not trying to smash the driver and lose my tempo. When I did, I'd lose the ball to the right with a push fade. Worked on the range for 45 minutes or so. Moved over to the practice chipping area and worked on short pitches with the 60*, focusing on keeping my rhythm and soft arms and not rushing the transition. I use a 24 ball shag-tube and after 2 rounds, moved to hitting short chip shots with the 60*, 56*, and 52* wedges working on solid contact and distance control. All in all, a good practice session today.

I played behind a Skins group yesterday that had a guy playing to a 1.3 index. I know that having overheard them talking on the putting green. Since play was slow, I was able to see a good many of his shots. He didn't seem overly long but accuracy was crazy good. It must be boring be you guys .
