... I will say whenever I break par, it is mostly because my irons are hot and I am hitting them close with usually a tap in or two. Driving well is always a bonus but I can struggle for par from the middle of the fairway while I can hit it close and birdie after missing the fairway when my driver is off as long as I don't have an obstruction blocking my shot to the green. When my iron play isn't sharp it seems like the entire round is a grind. Obviously a heavily tree lined course or lots of water in play can change that. Ymmv ...

Your grind as a good player is playing shots within your ability and not trying to make the hero shot.  Yes,  you hit your irons well which means you are hitting them at your targets and the ball can end up close; it can just as easily end up 20 feet away.   At what distances do you stop aiming directly at the pin and start playing to locations on the green?    I heard a stat that was a player that averages 79 only averages 1 more birdie than a player that averages 95 with the big difference being bogey avoidance.

  2. Coming back to this topic as I said I would.  Watched today's coverage of the Pure Silk on TV, watched a few groups come through some holes, and today I scored for Amy Olsen, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Stacy Lewis.   As I said earlier,  I don't think the players are as bad as the OP indicated.  Putts were challenging the holes and birdies weren't all inside 5 foot.    I'll check again tomorrow,  but I figure I will see the same thing.

Just checked the matchups this week, apparently I’m facing a who’s who of the top ten teams in league. Hope it goes well! Only two teams under .500. Could be a big week one direction or the other for me.

Gotta get more wins than the teams ahead of you to move up.  Beating the teams ahead of you is the easiest way to get them a loss.

thanks. i needed that. i just need to get out of my own head...

Others have said it, but the mind is a powerful thing.   I have been frustrated with my game over the past couple of months.   Got the opportunity to get with my coach last weekend to work on my swing.   As I have been playing and hitting balls this past week I am seeing progress and balls are being well struck.    Today,  I was just so excited about how well I hit the ball.  It wasn't equipment;  it was practice and learning the swing that really helped move me forward.

I agree that most likely if you have Arcoss the added data you can enter won't make it worth it, but Arcoss if you don't get sensors free is about 200 to start then 100 a year from there while this is the flat rate 320 up front for as long as you use the item. Might be worth it for those that do not want Arcoss but where going to get a new range finder anyway as noted in the article the price is lower than many range finders on the market without these features.

But this isn’t Arcoss like.  arcoss actually captures distances and makes recommendations based on how you actually hit the ball.   This you simply enter you distance and it will recommend based on the single value you provide.

at least that is my interpretation.

edit: went and looked at the app description and it does apparently have the ability to track average distances.  Even more interesting now.

Thank  you for your reply. The issue I had was that if you put in hitting an 8 or 9 iron at 150 it puts you in the raft shafts at 70g. If you put in a 9 or wedge for 150 it puts you in stiff shafts at 110 g. I can hit a 9 iron 150. I just don't chose to. Thank you for the comment about loading and unloading. That was helpful as well.

More to what you put in than that.  I put 9 iron as 150 and still got steel stiff.   Did you also tell it you wanted a higher ball flight?  Again there is only one option for graphite via the hogan site; so if you want graphite that is the only choice.

  7. I read the first look article and thought that it sounded very cool, but I love tech items like this.  It would be really interesting to see how accurate the calculations are.   Wind, temp, and weather conditions were a recent topic that my golf coach and I discussed.   The only thing missing would be to actually maintain the yardages you hit the clubs like Arccos.

I’m sure it won’t affect anything, but I understand why it bothers you. My Mizuno CLK 3h has a dent on top, no idea when/how it happened, and it bothers me to no end. At least you don’t have to see your dent every time you address the ball. I’ve seriously considered replacing mine just because the look gets me even though I’m sure it doesn’t impact performance.

Ouch.  I am sure that bothers you; especially with how well you take care of you equipment

  9. Going to be pretty hard to get back to 1983 unless someone has a shaft available to weight for you and that would most likely be the weight after trimming to length since finding an uncut shaft would be even more difficult.  The link below goes back to the 90s and shows the weights in the 105-115 depending on who made them.

    https://www.golfworks.com/images/art/BenHogan.pdf

unless you swing the club you won’t know what will or won’t work best.  Weight and flex are not solely based on swing weight but how you load and unload the shaft.  That said, I don’t know what options you entered in the hoganfit, but with what you are saying I am surprised you aren’t stiff flex.

regarding the lightweight graphite, If you look at the shaft options they only offer lightweight Recoil shafts.

So let me tell you a story. I invited 2 of my buddies out to my club to tee it up and have a good time, it delved in to a nerve racking, stress test of my mental fortitude. The gentlemen are great guys but just casual golfers, when they are playing regularly they can get it a round fine, however they play once every six months. 1 guy on the first tee topped his first two shots (total combined 3 yards) tees another one up, tops it again so bad the ball goes 5 yards backwards, yes behind him. At this point I can barely stand I am laughing so hard. So as you can imagine my expectations were low, just a nice round in good weather with good friends. Fortunately that changed as the round progressed. I made birdie on #1, I eagled #3 something I do once in a blue moon. Made 2 great pars on 7 & 9 with a birdie on #8. Make the turn in 32, my lowest on the front nine ever! I make about a 12 footer on #10 for another bird, so at this point I am -5. We get to the 11 tee and I know what is about to happen. I am going to make huge mistakes in the next 5 holes and be even par. So rather than just hold that in a let it happen I told both of them, "guys I am outta my comfort zone here, going to double 3 of the next 4." I even went a step further and text @PMookie the same thing. -5 pushing the boundaries of where my game is or probably ever will be, so holding on for 8 holes was going to be a chore. #11 is a tough driving hole for me, easy hole but I struggle with starting spot, there is OB right and I hit it about 40 yards left of the fairway in the junk, no biggie, been there many times. Try to punch out it hits a tree, so at this point my prediction is coming true. Chunk one from 50 yards, I am Nostradamus! Bounce blade the next one to 15 feet. And drain it! Bogey, ok that's a win. Next hole is short par 4, drive right down the middle to 38 yards. BLADE it over the green (hard to hit touch shots when your hands are shaking 🤣). Bail myself out again by chipping in, back to -5. Hit good drive and good second to 3 feet on next hole and now I am -6. #14 is a 221 par 3, tough hole bogey is acceptable. Hit it in greenside bunker and missed 8 footer for par, back to -5. Make bogey on 15 from 78 yards, yeah that whole hand shaking thing, controllable on full swings, not so much on short ones. 🤣 Chunk blade 2 putt. 3 holes left and -4 with -5 being my PR on the course. I know the last three holes there is only going to be one more touch shot, so we can navigate this. Easy par on 16, missed 7 footer for birdie on 17 and now I am over the one touch shot on 18 that I knew would be there. And it was short sided over a bunker. Only thing I could do at this point was make sure it got on the green. It did, but barely, hits backside of bunker and rolls down to 15 feet. 15 feet to tie my personal best and shoot 35 on back nine while walking around with my head somewhere detached from my body. The putt never left the center of the hole, it was pretty sweet. A little fist pump and high fives from the guys and I had my 67.

Shout out to Paul for encouraging me during entire back 9.

Accepting and knowing what the outcome can be and attacking that head on gave me a nice vote of confidence in myself and my game.

congrats on the great round;  enjoyed reading the description of your round.

Got fitted at Club champion for a driver shaft.  Got the shaft today in the mail and they glued the adjustment settings! Granted its set in A1 (what I got fit for) but at the same time I might want to adjust that at some point.  Any reason to do that?

If I took a torch to the adapter would it be pretty easy to dislodge that?

    thanks.

If you take the head off you can’t change the settings?  If so I would return; there shouldn’t be any reason to do this.

if you use heat or a torch you would potential damage the ferrule and it would be best to reflux the shaft.  You might be able to use something to remove the excess epoxy, but I wouldn’t on a new driver that you paid to have built correctly

Lots of tournaments honor (and raise money for ) lots of good causes. The Players is the championship event of the highest level most elite Tour in the world.

The reason to change happened in 1968, when the Tour broke away from the PGA. The PGA Championship wasn't a major because it honored the grass roots. It was a major then because the Tour was part of the PGA.

Well if you say so,  petition whomever you need to get it changed.

You must not have read my prior comment:

The other three are majors based on their own importance and prestige. America's national championship is important and prestigious, so it is a major. The British Open is the national championship of the home of the origins of golf. That prestige leads it to be a major. The Masters is by far the most popular and most watched golf event. The identification of those three as majors is a result of that importance and prestige. The PGA is the opposite. It has its prestige because people call it a major.

I wouldn't retroactively take away major status. If you won the PGA as a major, you have a major victory always. I wouldn't add a major either as I agree four seems like the right number. I would replace the PGA with the Players as a major. The Players now is what the PGA Championship had been over 50 years ago- the championship tournament of the Tour players.

It has prestige because it honors the grass roots people that keep the game going.  I probably have more respect for the PGA professional than the guys that run the masters.   The players  is simply another golf tournament.
I see no real reason to change.

It is run by the PGA of America, but why does that make it a major? That is not the PGA Tour. Looking at it from a blank slate, wouldn't the championship of the PGA Tour be more important than the championship of an association of golf instructors and clubhouse managers?

So we should drop the Masters as it is run by a bunch of rich people an not affiliated with the tour and has a limited weak field from top to bottom?  How about dropping the US Open since it is run by the USGA and not the PGA tour and allow amateurs to qualify.
maybe we should go back in history and add the British and us amateurs.

it is simply designated as a major or just another golf tournament that someone decided is more important because it pays respect to the non tour people that keep the game going at the grassroots level.

Check Watson golf they have a similar style ball but without the lanyard. Or just a small ball you can buy at a sporting goods store or five below should work

Saw the Watson structureball product; it attaches to you arm and there are knockoffs of the smart ball on amazon. I could also try the shallower from Gankas.  I’ve tried balls that I have around the house but they just aren’t right.  I am also going to see if I can find a pool floatie that goes around your forearm.  The best option is still borrowing the one from Phillip 😁
