I am sure people get tired of cliches' but I am very fond of "it is not about the destination, it is about the journey." Never truer than your golf index. It took me 30 years to get to a + index and I oh so enjoyed the journey. So much to learn, so much to experience and I have to admit that the days I played poorly made me want to get back on the course faster than the days I played well. ... And we all have our numbers to chase from breaking 100 with a legit score to getting into the 70's to shooting under par but the challenge is the same. Being in Chicago I have not played in 3 weeks now and other than some winter get aways, I will take my +.8 to the course this spring, rusty and out of golf shape and my index will climb, then level off after a month or so, then start dropping again. At this point in my golf journey I am trying to have those scores climb less in the spring and drop more by the fall. At least until I move to a warm year round climate, hopefully sooner rather than later. Kenny B, yungkory and Canucklehead 3 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... silver & black
I don't pay for a handicap index. I use "free golf tracker". I don't keep track of GIR's, putts, fairways, etc.... I just import total score, be it 9 or 18 holes. It automatically figures your handicap. I'm sure it isn't the most accurate program, but it's close enough to let me know where I stand. Right now I'm at 9.7... up from 8.6 a few months ago. I don't really have any aspirations of becoming significantly better at this stage of my life, although I probably could if I had the time to practice and play more. I'm fine with where I'm at. I play well enough to get around a golf course and well enough to feel comfortable playing with anyone..... a lot better or a lot worse than me...lol. It's all about enjoying the game and the people you play with. My life would be the same if I were a +handicap or a 30 handicap. chisag, Rickp and Kenny B

I have been using GHIN for several years to track my index, mostly because I am on the journey to get lower. However, I expect that the day will come very soon when I have gotten as good as I can get; old age is impossible to avoid. I keep working on all aspects of my game because I see rounds where I have "flashes of brilliance". Unfortunately, they don't last very long! This last year I played in a couple of events where I needed a GHIN, but I seriously doubt I will next year. However, I still need to track my index, so I will be looking for options. My wife will still need to be in GHIN because she occasionally plays with the Ladies Club and she has to be in GHIN to be a member. tony@CIC
I use GHIN as well. Primarily because I want to get better and recording the scores an ongoing baseline. On the other hand I don't compare my score to others since I'm basically playing against myself - also not comparing my index against other better players takes the pressure off.
