What/How Did You Practice Today?

Worked on proper vertical wrist hinge along with a more neutral right hand grip. Then played  practice round on the short course.

Day 178 (14 Jul 24) - Hit some hard foam balls in the backyard with driver focused on smoothly coming into the ball (not over swinging - I tend to try to kill the ball), followed with return shots into the yard with the 6i same focus - staying smooth into the ball.

Still practicing my chipping and pitching,  I tried a narrow stance and I just can't stay in the proper position at impact so I tried a wider stance with the ball in the middle and my chipping has improved so that I am getting the ball closer to the hole than I ever have. I have even tried opening my stance and the blade a little and hitting little mini flop shots. It's a miraculous improvement. If you're struggling it's worth trying something, anything to get a better result.

No I tend to sway out of position and either hit fat or thin. With a wider stance I haven't hit a really bad shot, my distance control is getting better every time I play.

Sounds like you’re not keeping weight on the lead side and are making the same mistake anyone who is bad at chips shot does and uses to much leg action. This causes levels to change and arms/hands to get fast.

How far apart were your feet with a narrow stance and how far apart are they now?

Do you setup with a normal swing setup with your hands and club?

Originally about 5 to 6 inches, now about 18 inches and my hands are more forward than my normal setup and I try to keep that angle through impact,  no flipping at the ball.

Hands forward is a bad chipping technique. 18” is a very wide stance for chipping and is more of an iron swing. It’s going to have thanks to low and any change in tempo is going to cause thins and chunks.

My son randomly said he wanted to practice golf today so we took to the putting green at the Muni closest to the house. First time he's ever said that he wants to play golf so I'm obviously giddy!

The greens were bumpy but hearing him yell "I did itttttt" when he managed to hole one melted me. DF3 is showing some real promise! First round with it on Friday, I'm stoked

I’ve always struggled with my short game. Does anyone use rule of 12 chipping and have any tips? I know I need to work on my wedges from 50 to 60 yards but one thing at a time.

I don’t follow the rule of twelve specifically but work to understand carry/rollout for each club.   Ideally you need to have a decent baseline chip shot then hit each club to the same landing spot and see how much it runs out.   You SW may be 1:1, GW 1:2, PW 1:3, etc.

Not hitting fat or thin indicates you are very consistent with the bottom of your swing which to me is the most important factor to get locked in on chip or pitch shots.  Swaying, knee flexing, weight shift, wrist hinging all bring an additional vertical variable on those short shots and can move the swing low point that may hurt impact consistency.  I am not saying those things can't be done successfully in those shots but i think without a lot of practice its hard to maintain a  repeatable low point when those things are a part of the chip or pitch swing.

How is the reverse taper in terms of feel, control vs a typical putter grip?

So far so good. I really like how it sits in the hand. Feels pretty natural. The pistol grip design doesn't feel as big as is looks. .. .. .. Still early days, but promising signs...

Agree with @Indy_Oz - also got the Reverse Taper pistol (medium). Put it on my backup putter to test and it very quickly became my main putter.

For me it's helping me put my hands in a better position, and helping me be conscious of not rolling my hands in the back stroke and so reducing the face rotation open/closed.

Yesterday was keeping the hands quiet and making sure the club points to my belly button. I had a problem of casting the club and ending up out of sync. After a quick fix, yesterday's round was much better.

If the rain holds off and I can get to the range, I'm going to work on keeping that feel and trying to practice working the ball right to left. My fade continues to be locked in.

I practiced chipping and putting today. Putting been a tad off so I worked on ten footers. Then I worked on 15 yard chips. I haven’t been spinning the ball as much as I should on them so I worked on that by straightening the club up and using bounce more than having my hands so far forward of the ball. Then I went and played a round.

Got pretty excited. Suggested to my wife that maybe we should get out and play 9 holes today. She said to bring our 5 year old. Course was pretty empty due to heat. That’s where the good news ran out.
one hole 1 we get to the green on a par 5 and where my wife had hit her approach from a bear ran from one side of the fairway to the other. That freaked my wife out and between that and the heat, my wife called It. Disappointed

Callaway Maverick driver, Mizuno 3-wood and irons, Cleveland wedges, TaylorMade putter. Primarily play with Oncore golf balls

It sounds like your wife chose you over the bear!  That is not the normal response according to a recent poll of women....you should feel honored!!  😄

Day 180 (16 Jul 24) - Some easy shots (only about 20 or so, it was hot and muggy) with the 9i and hard foam balls in the backyard today…worked on tempo and coming thru the ball.  Solid session on rehearsals.

Kid is off at Camp Grandma for the week, so I've taken advantage and hit the range every day.  Amazing what a difference daily practice makes in the ability to find the center of the face, whodahtunkit!  Now the challenge is keeping it up when she's back...

Hit the range today just going through swing motion over and over trying to repeat it. Doesn't make for the most interesting practice day to talk about but not a bad one. Hit a few Qi10 Max darts that felt really good. Putting was decent but nowhere near good.
