bardle
Bardle - I was client manager for a team that did a year long hybrid mobile app project for a client. We used a framework for that (Ionic), and it was the right tool for the job. The Arccos app does not look like it's using a framework. I get the feeling that it's native mobile, and that they started with iOS because although the market share is smaller, it's much less work trying to develop for a smaller universe of phones. Some things to note about the Android app: I use a cheap Samsung Galaxy J7 (I'm done with flagship phones). My battery life in general is fairly good, and Arccos does not really tax it too badly. The Galaxy S7 has known battery issues, and Arccos makes them 10x worse. For the nuts-and-bolts of tracking your shots, it's fine. It's no worse (and no better) than an iPhone. It's OK as a GPS, but not as responsive as the iPhone app. Calculating a layup yardage takes a significantly long press to switch to that mode. So long that I thought the feature was missing from Android. You only get Caddy 1.0. It does not have social features. The fit and finish isn't nearly as nice. This shouldn't matter, but it kinda does. The iPhone app just looks a little better. Shot editing is basically the same. No better or worse. You cannot share an entire round. Just one hole at a time. GolfPad GPS lets you share the entire round. You must have a phone with a gyroscope to use it. The app senses when you swing (which is why it must be in your front pocket, not strapped to your bag or anything like that). Funny story - I gave Arccos my phone information, and they told me it wouldn't work. So I bought a refurbished iPhone SE from Total Wireless for $100 to use as a dedicate Arccos device (no service, just wifi). Then I downloaded the Arccos app onto my Android phone for grins, and it worked. It turns out that the Verizon version of the J7 has a gyroscope. The SE is actually a very good device for Arccos. It's smaller than my phone, it's very fast, and fits much better into my front pocket. But I don't know that it's worth $100 to me. Thanks for the feedback. Sounds about in line with the driver product I'm using. My pixel does fine battery wise with the driver app and 18birdies running the entire time. I usually finish a round with 50% or more left. Just FYI in case your in the market for a new phone. I've resorted to having a battery pack in the back pocket and the charging cable connected the entire time I'm playing (it's a pain in the butt!) I'm also thinking that part of the issue might be that it's an older phone and that the battery has some cells that no longer hold a charge. My phone also puts some heat out when the GPS is running. MaxEntropy
Looper - you mention using a device that only has Wifi - don't you need GPS to accurately chart you shots/distances? The GPS should function independently even when there is not a cell signal as long as there are offline versions of maps available (I believe he said earlier he had to download the courses while on wifi, iirc). Accuracy is improved a bit with cell signal because the phone triangulates with cell towers at the same time as locking on satellites. null, HardcoreLooper, MattF and 1 other 4 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges

For my Arccos I purchased an iPhone SE for $100 on eBay as a dedicated device just for the data. No SIM card so no cell service. I would download any course I was going to play at home over WiFi before I played. Get to the course and click the downloaded course and go. I had no accuracy issues and other than missed shots the setup works great. When I got home I could go to my laptop and the data from my round was there waiting for me. The only function I lost using this setup was live wind direction updates since I had no cell service. The F8 has weighting on the back and heel and the F8+ has weighting on the front and back. I have the F8 and per the recommendation of the Cobra fitter, have the 12g weight in the heel and the 2g weight at the back. The driver is also lofted at 11.2* neutral. I thought it strange that he would recommend this seeing that my misses are hooks, but it's working out ok for me now. In my previous bag, I had the R15 and messed with it but had the best success with the two sliding weights set to 2 bars on either side of neutral 10.5* neutral setting for the shaft. As for the CNC milled face - I haven't really noticed it adding anything to the drives or preventing my drives from getting into trouble, LOL. Same for the Carbon crown. Looks great but can't say I see any improvement in my driving owed to it. MDGolfHacker bardle 1 Quote What's In This Lefty's Bag? You were a caddy - something I've always wanted to do and the only one in the group with a hole-in-one trophy (another thing I'd like to do!) Looper - from Asbury Park which is next to Ocean Grove where I've vacationed a couple of times and one of my favorite spots! If you haven't been to the boardwalk down there DO IT NOW. Also love your dedication to data, data, data...that's a big part of my job at BU. MDGH - the GIF master has arrived.... I know how hard it is to embed stuff in the forum postings and bravo on a job well done. A lefty but playing single/one length clubs .... love that you went out on a limb for this! love it... Joyzee - the caption video is something to behold; that must've taken some time and it is EPIC. Grew up in Denmark (happiest country in the world!), lives in Canada and has a forum name that sounds like a yankee saying Jersey... too funny! Also a recovery shot master...a man after my own heart. However....my vote goes to ReeseDW.... From the Pacific Northwest (I grew up in the Willamette Valley in OR) and he uses the clubs with the specs that I would have chosen, so he is as close to an exact match to me than anyone else. He's the rookie of the bunch (beat Joyzee by 6 days) and - most importantly - the font and readability of his posting was fantastic.... especially for his very first. Way to go, rook! MaxEntropy
I'm glad Stroker quoted part of Meyer's OP. I have been having difficulty picking a winner too, because they are all so good for a variety of reasons. Since that is the case, there is only one thing that really separated the intros - only one person really delved into the smack talk, so Joyzee is my winner. Joyzee10
I was so close to voting for Joyzee but then he had to mention Trevor Chappell and it just brought back painful memories. That damn underarm still haunts us!! https://nzhistory.govt.nz/media/video/underarm-incident-new-zealand-cricket Damn! I thought it might be the sealer for me!
