It's that time of the year again! Who's ready for some fantasy football?!

 

This is your Official 2019 MGS Fantasy Football League Thread. Let me or @GolfSpy STUDque know if you are interested in playing this season as the league generally fills up fast. Please only apply if you plan on keeping up with your team the whole season! It is no fun when people throw in the towel after the first few weeks go poorly and THESE PEOPLE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED BACK INTO FUTURE LEAGUES. We have some teams from last year's league that won't be permitted into this year's league, for this very reason.

With that said, prior year's league members who participated all season long will have priority to joining this league.

 

The League will be run again on Fantrax which was gracious enough to waive their fee for a split division league. They have been working hard to fix the bugs that they had last year and are continuing to make improvements to the site, as well as, the app. Fantrax is our best bet for such a large league with split divisions. Last year the league was 28 teams strong it was much easier to run it all through Fantrax, than it was in the past with two separate leagues on ESPN.

 

What are we playing for you might ask?! Well pride of course.

That and what we can call The Golden Ticket! Which is the ability to test and review anything you like in the following year. Who wants some shiny new toys?!

Nope.  If you were in the league last year, you got an email notifying that it was re-opened.  If you follow the link and confirm your team, we'll see that on the commissioner side.  Still worth saying something in this thread though.

To add to Undershooter's post, we're going to try to get the draft done earlier this year to avoid any potential mishaps created by our massive league.  We'll also have a few votes to put out to the league but will wait until the size is pretty much solidified.

OK so maybe that's not the most notable, but it's the most important to me  We'll also need to take votes on the schedule, league makeup, and some scoring areas.  If you guys can think of anything else you'd like changed, now is the time to do so.

Things I disagree with as far as how rules are currently setup and based on my preferences from other leagues. If they don't get changed or enacted then it's no big deal but I wanted to put out my thoughts before things get really going: 

- DST get 4 points for a win..no points should be awarded for wins

- Passing TDs should be 6 points, not 4. It's arguably harder to get a passing td than a rushing td, especially in the red zone. I don't understand why the points would be different.

- if an INT is -2. Then a Fumble should be -2 as well

- I personally think a sack should be 2 points instead of 1 as well.

So I guess I'm back in. Might be good for the commissioners to take out those teams that definitely aren't coming back again this year so we can get an idea of how many open spots may be available.

I know that Stroker, what I'm saying is that either @Undershooter or @GolfSpy STUDque should go into the reopened league and delete those teams from the league, so we know at least for certain the potential members of the forum coming back and how many new spots we have open.

All rules can be changed. We just need to vote on them as a league.

I actually thought that INT and fumbles were being scored the same. The fact they were different was preset from Fantrax if I had to guess.

I think we voted the D gets points via wins thing in last year but we can revote that. I'm fine with voting on sacks as well.

 

The passing touchdowns being worth 2 points less is mainly because it would make the QB position more valuable. Which is dangerous in a deeper league. I don't mind it leagues that are smaller than ours, but we start to run out of quality QBs with injuries, backups and buy weeks quickly in a 14 team division. On top of that, rushing TDs are much less common in today's NFL than passing TDs. The leader in rushing touchdowns vs passing was 17 vs 50. The 10th most rushing TDs vs passing is 9 vs 29. The 20th most is 6 vs 19. Rushing TDs just don't happen as frequently thanks to RB committees and increased usage of the passing game.

Of course, with all that said, of course we can vote on that too!

We've been discussing who all to remove and will do so at some point today. I just haven't had time to get around to it because of work. I wanted to reactivate the league though so we could see about Fantrax waiving the fee.

Fair point on the passing TDs. I didn't consider league depth.

You already know I’m in! Made it through the first round of the playoffs last year so only place to go is up from there!
