Maltby TS1 Irons

I’ve written on several posts that I’ve been interested in building a new set of irons this season. As it’s progressed, I pulled the trigger last week and went with a 4-GW setup with Nippon Modus 3 120 shafts in a stiff flex. The trial period was with the 7 iron and it’s been consistently positive. I’ve tried hitting a variety of shots in several different conditions. Wind, no wind, rain, cold and sun. The trial period was very successful and as a result, these are my new irons. 

I am well aware that Maltby irons are not wetting the whistle of every golfer. I’ll be blunt and say, you’re not my audience.  

This was a very fun project and the heads are complemented by ferrules from BB&F Co.  The ferrules arrived in a drawstring pouch which was cool. Above all, quality of the product is fantastic. At approximately $3-$4/each, it doesn’t break the bank to add a nice touch.

From what I can see in your photos I like them. Your build looks great too. I'm not the least off-put by your irons or Maltby. I play Wishon and most people don't have a clue about Wishon clubs let along who Tom Wishon is. So, it your or my clubs aren't on tour or in golf magazines they're invisible to most. Further, most golfers (probably aside from MGS forum members) think they are El Cheapo or clone clubs and such. 

I'm curious what your cost per club was? IYDM. Just components.

I don’t mind you asking. $101 (rounded up) before tax per club. Golfworks did offer a promotion on shipping which was going to be $32 with a 7-10 day estimate. Order was placed Wednesday AM and arrived Friday at 8:48AM.

Wishon and KZG among others, have a dedicated following in the builder’s world. I have not played Wishon irons but I have no reason to believe they are anything but great from testimonials that I’ve read. They will be a conversation starter for sure. I’m excited to see them speak for themselves.

Thank you. Having a workspace is something that I appreciate. It’s also nice to slow down and think myself through a project with some good music playing in the background.

Nice! . Just picked up a new set of TS2’s and a TS1 gap wedge. Cannot wait to try them out. Waiting on the new Maltby wedges and am tempted to pick up a driver  . They have me hook, line and sinker.

TS2’s look great. I hope you enjoy...I took the Gap out today behind my parents’ home. They live next to a course that closed three years ago and became a park. The holes still exist (albeit rough shape which is fine) so I hit some shots today while running my dog to get some early yardage estimates.

And just a heads up...

The comments in the TSW Wedge review say they drop tomorrow (week of 23rd) rather than the “back ordered until April” comments on the page.

If that’s the case I’ll likely add a 54* to gap my setup a little better than where I am right now.

You guys have probably seen me post in other threads so sorry for the repeat. Many people in underground component golf brand world don't realize that Wishon was an apprentice of Ralph Maltby back in the 80's.

Wishon then went on to run Dynacraft. And eventually broke off to start Wishon Golf.

Wishon was also a drummer for the Steve Miller band!

These are some really nice looking irons! Can't wait for the release of the TSW wedges. I'm also really interested in the KE4 TC 3 wood or STF2 3 wood.

I played their KE4 tour hybrid with the Maltby S flex shaft and was beyond impressed with the shaft. Very smooth and stable. I'd be really interested to see how it plays in the 3 wood.

Interesting grip choice Bens, can't wait to hear how you like those. Wish Lamkin had some Arccos crossover with embedded grips so I could get those on the Pings, but will be interested to get tour opinions.

I really wanted a ribbed grip. The early reports said the Calibrate was more pronounced than GP Align technology.

Last season I had switched to the Lamkin Sonar from GP Tour Wrap 2G. Golfworks had a promotion for a free grip and I really loved how it felt. It was a good match for me as I prefer to not wear a glove and it was really tacky.

So here we are today, a blend of the wrap style that I like with Sonar texture and a rib. I won’t call it the Holy Triumverate as that is reserved for Rush; all in all, a combination that really works well for me.

Completely agree I have been rooting for that since I first encountered Maltby.

I completely agree! I've also been pushing for MGS to get them in the lineup. It's probably only a matter of time. They're doing reviews on other DTC companies and I'm extremely surprised that Maltby hasn't hit the radar yet. 

Could it be Maltby that doesn't want/need the additional publicity..??

If Maltby products were in the most wanted they would be hurting a lot of OEM feelings. Across the board they are even ir equal to any offerings.
Plus the New KE4 TC driver is just outstanding. I have not been this consistent AND long in decades.
