MattF
Here's an interesting problem I have. Just found out that I'll be the proud owner of $500 credit for golf equipment for every year that I am Chairman of The Grint Akron. I can buy clubs, balls and shafts. So, do I get a new driver every year or just load up on balls, like ProV's or TP5's? I'm a Snell guy, so I'm really leaning towards getting a new driver every year. What would you do? Chip Strokes
my plan would probably be to alternate driver and wedges every year. at the end of each season i’d assess what my most pressing need was and apply the $500 there. nice problem to have! xBAGGS, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, MattF and 2 others 5 Quote SIM2 8º | KuroKage XD 70TX SIM 3W 14º | Fujikura Atmos Black Tour Spec 9TX SIM2 5W 18º | Fujikura Ventus Black 10X U500 2i | Fujikura Ventus HB Black 10TX T100 4-PW | Dynamic Gold X7 SM6 52* SM8 56* SM8 60* | Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 DW | BGT Stability Tour
Tom the Golf Nut
Wow, Nice...… It would depend on how long you will be the Chairman. I would start out with a driver. Since it really takes about three years before technology changes enough to warrant another driver, I would move through the bag. So year two a 3 wood, then 5 wood or hybrid depending on your preference. Then a set of wedges, maybe a putter. Balls would be the last thing on my list. Typically a set of wedges will last about three years and you can probably get all three for under $500. xOldBenKenobiX
That is awesome, if me, I would rotate between driver, woods, wedges and irons, I know the irons probably would be more than the credit, however I would also be trading in the old clubs and save the credit for down the road, so maybe it would be a 4 year rotation for all clubs, except for the putter. xBAGGS
That great @MattF. I am sure well deserved! Tough one. @Tom the Golf Nut has the right idea on changing driver every few years. I am wondering with technology now if it doesn't even get pushed to 5 years. I like the situation you are in! Me in my situation, I would start with wedges and see wait to see what drivers come out that peak my interest. Although the new TSi series looks dang good! Good luck! CarlH
I wouldn't do an annual driver, nor would I spend it on balls. As @cnosilsaid, address each year to your perceived need. I burn thru wedges, so that would be my likely go-to, but if I felt the need for a driver (fairway woods, irons, etc), I'd look there, as well. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Again with everyone here. Pressing needs. The thing is if you do a putter and irons at any point at least they will last you a while. Agree on the wedges, you’ll never have an excuse for worn grooves. Driver is all preference. If everything is work, maybe try specialty clubs like DIs, Utilities, super hybrids to play around with and optimize potential gaps in your bag or have them for the one week you play Bandon and need a piss missile. Kansas King
I agree with what other have said on here. I would also add that upgrading the wardrobe, launch monitors, bags, and rangefinders should also be added to that list if that is an option. Dropping $500 on new clubs every year isn't going to do much for your game but if it's more of a general golf shop credit, it might open up other avenues. Maybe a nice putting mat. If you are the profitable type, maybe buy an expensive Scotty and sell it on eBay for about what you paid for it. You could also look at getting training aids like the swing speed system. Just a few ideas. However, if it is strictly restricted to equipment, I would focus on getting a different club properly fit for you every year such as the driver or new driver shaft, then putter, then fairways, then irons, etc. MattF and Vegan_Golfer_PNW

It was offered to me, right place, right time. They already had a club set up in Cleveland and saw there were a ton of golfers from my area that were members, so they decided to expand the number of clubs further south. 2 hours ago, Kenny B said: Does it rollover, or is it use or lose? Good question to which I don't have an answer. Thanks for the responses so far. At this stage they only do clubs and balls, so clothing and training aids are a non starter. They have a few Scotty Camerons and other brands, but no Evnrolls, so I won't be getting a putter. I love my Sub 70 3 wood and it's not going anywhere along with the Wilson D7 Forged, they're staying. So I have driver, wedges and balls left. Looks like I'll go and get fitted for a new driver in late winter after all the new stuff comes out and see where that leads. But, I'll definitely be looking at wedges some time down the line.
