Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Since the builder of my house didn't take into consideration the length of a real car and the design of the staircase down to the garage, I was left with one bay being unusable for anything bigger than a Jeep or VW bug. Brainstorm... what a great place to put together a golf practice room that can be used year round. I have one more addition coming to cover the floor carpeting hanging from the ceiling on the right side. This protects the garage windows in the other bay from an unexpected hosel rocket! I was going to build a wall but the carpet was available from putting a Pergo floor in my daughters room. Originally I was going to get one of those golf wall murals but they were around $300 to $400 for the size I wanted. Plus I would have to build a wall between the two car bays. Then I had a brain storm after a few days of scouring the internet.... I ordered a photography back drop with a fairway and green image for $18.00 (See last photo.) It will be here in about a month. Eight feet tall by six feet wide. It's meant to stand on to take photo's so it will be just fine to just hang in front of the carpet. The first 5 minutes I could see what the board was trying to get me to achieve. I wasn't far off so it really was a minor tweak to get a touch more grounded. Once a week or so I'll take a few swings and the board doesn't move at all. I can say I'm glad I built one. I wouldn't have spent the money to purchase one. I just enjoy the challenge of making things. I had everything laying around my workshop. Cost = $0, Build Time = 45 minutes. Painting is optional but took about 30 minutes. I can see it has electric. In my mind I already built a room toward the back. Insulated walls. One of those ventless Mitsubishi heaters / air conditioners mounted on the wall behind where I would be swinging from. 12 foot ceiling that is of the drop celing type. Easy to replace damaged tiles if you sky a shot. I would also put in a 6 inch high sub floor to be off the cold concrete. Then cut a few holes for golf cups in the floor for when I put down the wall to wall putting green. Except for the couch and fridge area of course. Dam now I'm depressed. juspoole
Looks great - I have a temporary set up in my garage, but still want the ability to park two cars so usually have to take it back down after use. Tom the Golf Nut
Took down the moving blankets behind the screen. Built a frame out of PVC, put up a net behind the screen but tight to the screen so no worries about taking out a garage window or one of the car windows outside the garage door. Hung up the photography back drop on the right side wall of the hitting bay (thought it would have been bigger). Just have to put a steamer on it to get out the wrinkles from being in the package. cnosil, PMookie, Kenny B and 5 others 8 Quote Driver, TSi 1 S Flex 3 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 7 Wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 Hybrid King Tec MMT R Flex Irons, Tour UST Recoil 95 R Flex (6 - Gap) Wedges, Snakebite KBS Hi- Rev2.0 54* & 60* Agera 35" Ultralight 14-way Cart Bag
