I’m a moron

For the longest time I’ve known that I’ve gotten too much spin with driver. My fittings have shown it, I can feel it off the face, too. At my last fitting we upped the weights gut and got it down to around 3,000 but it was still too much.

Mid round today I figured what the heck - I had this sleeve of chrome soft ls balls from a recent tournament - let’s try one of those. Short par 4 270 to the front dog left left OB left, crap right - trees down the left side - I normally at back to around 90. Instead I hit driver - the thing hit the ground screaming. Finished 10 yards short of the green. 
 

14 we all hit driver my son is 36, not long, unlike his brother, but  longer than me. We both flushed our drives - I was 15 yards passed him - next driver opportunity on 17 we both flushed it and I was past him again by a bit. 18 I absolutely smoked it while he popped his up a bit - I had him by 40 yards. 
 

Doesn’t spin as well into the green but the distance gain was real. I was 1 under on the back. Clearly there are more ways to gain distance with the driver than the driver.

If you think that is something, wait until you discover the Left Dash. Low spin off the driver but stops coming into the green. Firm feel but it goes miles

Guessing your ball flight was also lower.

less spin, lower peak height will lead to lower descent angry causing more roll out.

Great if chasing total distance not so good if there’s forced carry in the area of your carry yardage

That ball stayed in the air - I’ve been trying to flight it down a bit - this is auto flight down - I carried it over a palm tree on a corner 210 carry which for me is average.

Ha - I’m not rolling it back - this game is so hard. I had a putting lesson Saturday - tell the USGA they should have rolled Bobby Jones back.

Well, something else to add on my shopping list. I relate A LOT to your driver and spin situation as I've also been struggling with excess spin and virtually zero roll for the last few years.

I read a few articles on this topic but the reduction in rpm from these tests wasn't that significant. Glad to hear positive feedback from a real world scenario.I will definitely try these low spinning balls (Chrome Soft LS and Pro V1 Left Dash).

500 rpm an be huge - I was hitting shot today on the course with my ball and SC 300i LM / mid 2,000 with driver - low 6,000 with 7 iron and the chrome soft x LS ball. I’m not a high spin iron player so anything over 6k with 7 is acceptable for me.

Good to know. I have roughly 2700-2900 rpm with driver (for a club head speed of 112-115 mph and 11-12° launch angle). 500 rpm would indeed make a world of difference!

Any reduction in spin rate with irons would also be beneficial I think. From what I read, it probably wouldn't be enough to reduce green holding power significantly but it would likely increase distance. I don't have this stat but I know that my descent angle is a bit too steep, mainly with mid and short irons, and when there is a even a slight headwind, my shots get literally killed and can come 10-20 yds short.

I am very enthusiastic at the though of eventually finding a ball that I know will help me with this aspect. I'll make sure to follow up on this topic.

If you have a steep descent it’s coming from a ball that’s ballooning which is going to come from too much spin.

It sounds like you are adding loft to both your driver and irons at impact.

Depending on what the spin rate is that lower spinning ball may not reduce it enough to make a difference.

I was going to recommend for the driver in your eye fitted thread to good diy driver tuneup which may help with driver but you will also need to look at your swing see what’s happening.

My guess is based on ott with driver you might be flat in the backswing

Pro VIx which is a great ball - I will probably use it when it gets wet over the summer. But for now I’m liking the lower ball flight and run out. I’m noticing enough spin around the greens to control the ball and I’m not a sooner into the green anyway. I’ve always been a shoot away from a tight pin guy - the greens at my club are pretty firm but they will hold a well struck shot with a little run out.

That’s really interesting. Have not heard it spinning that much on drives. 
Will have to compare that to my Srixon again. Haven’t done that in a while.

Yes it is a very good golf ball.  I want to try the left dot ProV1 but cant find any at decent price.
