Iron Lengths

I’m trying to figure out a good length for my irons without actually getting fitted. I’m 5’6, and I’ve been playing with the stock sized clubs my entire life (except my driver), and was wanting to regrip my clubs but also cut some length down. I usually choke down on my clubs now with about an inch of grip coming out the top, do you think I should take an entire inch? Or maybe a 1/2 inch?

And also, how do you guys usually cut down on the clubs? Sawzall?

Cut one club (7 iron) down 1/2" and see how you like it. If you want more then cut some more off (maybe 1/4"). Your height really doesn't provide info on how long a shaft you should use. It is more about how you deliver the club at impact. If you want a generic answer look up a wrist to floor chart and make your clubs that length.

If you are cutting steel shafts, I have used hacksaw, pipe cutter, chop saw. For graphite, wrap the shaft with masking tape and us a rod saw.
