@Sundog Eyewearanyone have the right way to keep sunglasses clean? Im really enjoying my sundog sunglasses both Polarize and non polarized! Nothing I'm seeing on the website and or in the box I was sent to this issue.  Love to keep them looking great. I do understand using a microfiber towel is best, but want about the best liquid to use!

I use an old bottle of Monster LCD screen cleaner I got a very long time ago and a microfiber cloth.  It's the only thing that I've found that get water droplet spots off from our pool.  I used to work at Best Buy so it's probably 20 years old but still works great.  A quick check on Amazon and this is probably what I would get as an alternative when I need to replace it.

Love these @Jeff in the Mitten - interesting comments on cloud coverage. I’d imagine it’s hard to design sunglasses that can excel in both conditions.

I tend to agree. The only thing I haven’t tried is something like the Transitions lenses that adapt/change based on how much light hits them. Has anyone tried those???

I tried transition glasses, but never found much success with those either. They never really got dark enough for my liking 🤷‍♂️

I've tried them in my Oakley's. Unless I was staring directly at the sun, they didn't really transition from light to dark very much. I was left squinting all the time even with a hat on. I won't be going down that road again.

Hi @Alan Scalzi thanks for the comment! Great feedback that I will share with our team and see how we can make this a bit more clear and at the forefront. We have a support article in our knowledge base here if you do some digging in the "Contact Us" section of our website -> https://support.sundogeyewear.com/help/how-do-i-clean-my-sundog-lenses

I'll reiterate what it says below - a quick water rinse, you may want to wipe them first with a hand towel and then clean them with the microfiber cloth. There are plenty of cleaning products available online (we do not sell any directly) but just be sure it is quality cleaning material. Doing this each day after use can be an effective way to keep them pristine (or as often as you think they need them). Keeping them sheltered in a case or the microfiber case will help prevent scratching if you tend to have them in your car's middle console, for example.

"As simple as it sounds, to clean your lenses, just rinse using only water. Then gently wipe them with a lens-cleaning cloth. Introducing chemical cleaners to your lenses may interfere with the composition of the lens themselves.

Only use approved lens cleaner as a substitute for water. Read any directions carefully for proper care. Sundog cannot recommend any lens cleaning solution, and therefore only recommends rinsing with water to clean your sunglasses."

Hi @Jeff in the Mitten, awesome comments! Here are the LTV %'s (luminous transmittance values) for each lens we offer below. The values will change slightly with a mirrored lens. The RVO lens on the PROPEL TrueBlue's will impact the 13% quoted by about 1-3%. The RVO is a "heavier" lens mirror to something like a Flash Mirror, which is minor.

  • Grey – 20%
  • Brown – 13%
  • Green – 18%
  • Amber/Aurora – 33%

If you are finding the conditions on the green impacted, the light conditions may be affecting this. A grey, green, or amber/aurora lens may allow you better visibility with a higher LTV %.

Based on your review videos, it seems you have caught on to each lens colour and how they can benefit the conditions. The PROPEL TrueBlue's are going to be darker both for the lens and the RVO mirror on them - perfect for a sunny bluebird day but the Grey lens on the GENIUS TrueBlue Polarized PLUS are going to be more conducive for the conditions you were in with overcast.

Thanks again - we are thrilled to hear this kind of feedback as it helps us understand what areas to promote more information online! We will consider this with future web enhancements for our lens colour information.

Hi @Flerric, sorry for the delay! We have had a couple of speedbumps with delivery to our USA HQ, which should be resolved soon. There is still some testing required for our website internally I'd safely say by the end of the month, perhaps sooner. I don't want to mislead you this time!

If you are keen to get an order in the hopper, we might be able to expedite it and get you the case offer. Email us @ support@sundogeyewear.com and indicate what you are looking to shop for and we should be able to help you out (and you can take advantage of our current "Green Jacket" sale). We'll keep this one on the hush to the MGS forum but an option for anyone in the meantime!

@Sundog Eyewear  has your company ever ventured into lens toppers for those who wear prescription glasses?  These are polarized, and from an optometrist, and they are fantastic on the course and while driving.

I'm really liking my play when using the polarized sunglasses from @Sundog Eyewearas eye fatigue isn't an issue and im not wanting to pull out my contacts the first thing when i get home from playing, which is a major plus! LOVE MY NEW PHONE AS IT DOES TAKE GREAT PICTURES,  BUT NOT SURE WHY IT POSTED UPSIDE-DOWN!

Unique test for Masters Sunday!  I found a pair of the Transitions contact lenses I had purchased specifically for golf a while back!  Going to give those a try, and in particular see if they adjust enough to still use the Sundog Genius w/ the Trueblue Polarized Plus lens.

Stay tuned for an 18 hole recap!

Review of Transitions Contact Lenses vs Sundogs

Short Version:  I actually enjoyed the contacts, but they are NOT a full substitute for sunglasses.  The Transitions offer just a little tint to the entire field of view, but just enough to prevent squinting.  I also enjoyed that I could still put the Sundog Genius sunglasses on with the Trueblue Polarized Plus lenses, and the combination didn’t get too dark.  I think of the Transitions as an “okay” addition to the golf course, but if you have good comfortable sunglasses like these Sundogs they’re not needed.

In regards to the the Transitions Contacts…
PROs:  I really enjoyed the the complete field of view. The Transitions had a very light tint, but because it was my entire vision, it didn’t feel like the world was tinted because I didn’t have the contrast of my peripheral view like I would with sunglasses. It was a sunny day and it still felt “bright” out with just the contacts, but I did notice I didn’t squint like I would with my normal lenses. I was happy I could put on the Sundogs and the combination was still great for the sunny day without being too dark.

CONs: I guess I would’ve liked the transitions to get a little darker, but I guess maybe not noticing them means they were working!?

GREENS:  I was, as I have been about sunglasses, skeptical about reading greens. With the Transitions it was totally fine, felt like not having sunglasses on really. With Transitions and Sundogs sunglasses it was easy as well on the bright sunny day.

Overall, the Transitions contacts were a minor enhancement on the course. The Sundogs remain a great option with or without the tinted contact lenses.

With the transition lenses in and the sunglasses on, did you notice the transition lenses changing back to clear? (I hope that makes sense)

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

I have really been wearing the Stack TrueBlue sunglasses mostly over the Billy 83 TrueBlue Polarized PLUS.  The Stack's just feel more comfortable wearing.  When the sun is setting and not as bright I still wear my Tifosi sunglasses.

I played on Saturday (4/13).  I actually started with the Tifosi sunglasses.  As the clouds burned off, I was wearing the Stack glasses.

On Monday (4/15) I looked at the lenses and noticed that I have face oil all around the edges, including along the bottom.  This tells me that sun is not getting in along the edges.  Yes!  This is what I prefer with my sunglasses.

I do have to be wearing the Billy's more.  I just have not found them as comfortable as the Stack's.  The Billy's are the more expensive pair and not weighing up to the Stack's.
