mwade4040
Played again on Sat morning.....40 degrees out at our 6:30am tee time in SE WI. Played at the Broadlands...great course. Anyways, shot 83 (44-39). Hard to get loose and get a good swing with multiple layers on to start the round. Everything was better on the back nine! Erin B
Saturday I played 27 holes, did ok on the first 18, but at our 9 hole course, the last nine, shot even. Greens were shaggy so didn’t get a birdie to drop but every hole was a par. Sunday was interesting. Not a lot of people on the course so our 3some cruised through 18 in two hours. Had two double bogeys, one per side but ended up with 2 birds to negate them a little. All in all a good weekend with good buds playing decent golf. Shanked my drive in the woods, took a drop and set up bc I couldn't hit my 3 over the water, then took my 3 wood and hooked it left into another body of water, pulled my 9i left, shanked the chip, finally got a decent chip then missed the putt.. Popular Post Rob Person
The plan- range, then 9 holes on the par 3 course. How it began- Went to the range, broke in the orange whip after having watched 20 or so videos on practice swing techniques. 10 balls into the bucket, I got asked by one of the regulars to be a 4th for their skins game. Grabbed the franken-cart v2.0 and decided to walk while they ride. How it went- They played from the golds, I played from the whites. First drive I gobsmacked that ball, 261 yards!!! Holy crap! We Busted through 9 holes as a foursome in 1h 40min. I tied on the skins. I still tracked my round, and at the end I shot a 38! Two of the guys had to leave, and I was heading back to the range when Clay asked me if I wanted to go another 9. I said sure. Apparently he already setup another skins game, but in a team scramble format. This other group he plays with go .25cents per skin. I told him I don't play anything for money, onplay for fun. He said he would cover the game, since he asked me. So another 9 was on. I switched to a cart, as my hip/leg was pretty tired from walking 9 already. We get to the first tee, make introductions, and tee off. Again, me from the whites. By the 3rd hole we were up by 2. **Apparently their are alot of options you can add when you play skins. And I was unaware of this** closest to pin with a GIR, eagle is worth 2, ace is worth 3, longest drive on the fairway, etc. Clay is a dart thrower inside 100 yards, and nailed the flag pin on 2 of them. We used all my drives except for 2 7th hole, we were up by 2. Par 5 475 yards for me. My drive lands and rolls out to about 250. 225 left to the pin. I grab my 19⁰ hybrid. Clay hits his 5w and lands 10yards short of the green, into a bunker. I made the best contact I ever had with this club, it starts right, then draws back to the middle and I thought I was bunker bound. It catches the approach to the green, hops up in the air, lands over the bunker and rolls up to the pin. Putted for a natural eagle. This was the only picture I got from today's play. (The dark green right of the pin is the top of the bunker) Not only did we get the closest to pin skin, we also got the eagle. We were up by 4 at the end, and they had to pay out a whole dollar each. But they were sour about it. I was called a sandbagger, as my drives were going longer then them, even playing 1 back, and I had several very nice approach shots. Clay was throwing darts at the hole too. Afterwards, he invited me to play in his group anytime for their weekly games (there is about 20 of them, and they also use an app to track everything as a rolling tally for the year, have quarterly semi finals, and a championship tournament) I had fun, but I don't have the free time they do to be that involved. How it ended- I grabbed franken-cart and headed off to play 9 more. Nothing spectacular, and was 3 putting a few times from silly speed control errors for some reason. Shot a 45. Not unhappy about it. I was on a high from a really fun day of golf. I didn't want to stop! But my body sure did! EnderinAZ
Played a fine round today, well the score was fine anyway. 40/38 for a 5 over 78. 4 birdies and 3 (ack!) doubles. The rough (Bermuda) is now a steady 3 inches deep and bloody hard to get the ball up and flying with any distance out of that deep intertwined grass. So three times in the deep rough. Three times short or crap shot out of the rough. And, finally 3 putts for each of those greens. That part was awful. My LAB DF3 and I are figuring out how to hit the ball - according to Dave Peltz - the prescribed 17 inches past the hole. That worked very well today. Tied for 3rd place and put a few dollars back in my pocket. taylorjonasher
Played 9 with my 7 year old, my buddy, and his 9 year old son. We had a blast and I am really enjoying watching my boy improve every time out. I shot a 41 with really only one blow up hole where I topped my drive straight left and then had to punch out around a tree to get back into play. Not sure where it's coming from, but the last two times out I've had an inexplicable case of the topsies that shows up after two or three really good strikes off the tee, and on swings where I'm making the conscious effort to try to slow down and stay smooth with my tempo. Maybe I need to drink more? I ended up pushing my 3rd shot into the hazard on 8 and had to drop, but then threw a dart to 6' to save bogey. I threw another dart from 100 on 9 to about 8 feet and then lipped out for bird. Pretty good day on the greens with one three putt that shouldn't have been, I just didn't take my time on a 3' after a really nice lag putt. Been utilizing a new strategy off the tee that plays super conservative away from trouble and it seems to be paying off - lots of long irons, 3W, and driving iron in lieu of driver. Bzuniga
Had the day off so I went to 9 hole course with my girlfriend. From the start it was far from my best golf. Missed almost every fairway, wiffed a few irons, somehow became best friends with the bunker, and couldn't get away from the dreaded 3+ putt. But then it happened, my first ever birdie on the last hole! The final hole was a 4 par. My shot off the tee drew a bit to the right but was still in play. On the second shot there was a marsh between me and the flag. Although morale was low due to a rough round, I decided I wanted to go over as opposed to hitting it back on the fairway. I grabbed my P wedge opened the face to get some air. I couldn't see the landing because of the cattails, but I was confident it went over. I walked around to find my ball and I couldn't believe it. THREE FEET AWAY FROM A BIRDIE! The pressure was on and I took a moment to come down from excitement. I made the putt and celebrated like I had just won the Masters! For reference I started playing golf about 3 months ago, I've had my fair share of lows but it feels great celebrate the highs and feel like I'm improving! Rearviewmirror
First round of golf in long pants since April. Was a little sad not to be able to play out the nine as my approach play was ON today. I weirdly started air-balling my 5-wood today, but everything stayed in play so the damage was pretty minimal. Putter was mostly on today, but had a couple of longer range efforts come up just short of the hole. Would have been 7/9 GIRs but despite hitting an 8 iron flag high (center of the green pin) it skittered off the back. They had just watered the green and I'm guessing it maybe somehow aquaplaned?! Dweed
What a beautiful early September day in Mid Michigan. Sunny, upper 70's, light breeze. Only a handful of retirees on the course. The phone system was hosed up all day so no one could call in to make or check tee times. After 5 or 6 calls I decided to just drive over there and see what was amiss. I headed right out to take advantage of this misfortune. Played my usual 9, shot 39. 5 out of 7 fairways hit not great but not bad. Hit 7 of 9 greens, for me not bad. The downside of the round was my putting today. Had 3, count them 3, 3 putts. 33%. No real defense. Just have to spend more times practicing those 10-15 ft side hill putts. Two way misses are never fun. cksurfdude, Lefty11, Rob Person and 4 others 6 1 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Mavrik 18* 5w; JPX 919 HM Pro 4i; JPX 900 Forged 5 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! After 3 OB tee shots today, I put it away and was hitting my 3 Wood really well. Usually went about 250-260 yards. It got me thinking, why do I even carry my driver when it only gives me 20-30 more yards and usually misses the fairway? Anyone go driverless and how does that work for you? I've very recently adopted a course management style that favors shorter clubs off the tee. I look for where trouble is and where the fairways are widest and use that as my target and club selection. My GIR have gone up, and my average strokes per round have decreased. If I know that I can carry trouble or that a 70 yard dispersion is playable, I'll pull driver out. If not, I'm hitting 3W, 2i, or 4i off the tee. This style suggests that for me it's way better to be shorter in the fairway or slightly off than in jail or back on the tee for 3. I can hit my driver 270 - 285, but not consistently in play. I've been working a lot on it, but it hasn't yet translated to more balls in play - I still have about 40% of my tee shots with driver miss significantly enough that are adding 2-4 strokes per round in penalties or recoveries. I really like that. I’m going to try that out next time out on the course! William P, cksurfdude, Rob Person and 1 other 4 Quote My Bag: Driver: TaylorMade 9 deg.
