How bad is your golf club addiction…

I think it is best I don't talk about mine - Although I do have several favorite clubs that aren't likely to go anywhere anytime soon!

Well the want and lusting for new clubs is ever present but the bank account and the wife are always asking unwanted questions like "why do you need to change your clubs", "what's wrong with your current ones", and "are you sure you need new clubs".  Apparently the answer that I'm sure this is what it will take to take 5 strokes off my game isn't an acceptable answer 🤣🤣

Depends on the club, driver/fairway wood are always negotiable, I have had my irons for many years and still hit them well.  Wedges based on wear.  Don’t see my putter going anywhere for a while.

Then again, it could all change when a new release comes out…

Yeah..... I'm on a putter kick right now.  I've used a SeeMore SB1 for over 10 years.  In the last 4 months I've had 5 different putters.

SS GOLO 6- liked it but returned it

AI-One Milled 11T- liked it but not as much as the GOLO 6 so I traded it for the Squareback.

SS GOLO 6- had to have it again and am currently using it.

SS Squareback 2- traded it the day after I got it.

Phantom 9- should be delivered tomorrow.

Good morning, my name is Jason, and I'm a golf club-o-holic.

So I just received my 4th putter (Maltby build) and I have about 9 wedges. Not to mention the 6-8 wedge shafts from taking other wedges apart over the past couple of years. I did just sell my 2nd set of golf clubs to go along with selling the 3rd set a couple months ago. I've sold 3 drivers over the past few months as well. I have a new 7 wood coming along with the UW I got earlier this year. Plus I still have 2 fittings and 2 demo days coming up in the next month. So who knows what else will be on its way.

But ....

@Shrek74 Hi Jason, thank you for sharing your story to the group. My name is Erin and I am a club-o-holic too. I used to be ok, could play a set of irons for years at a time. Hell, (can I say that word in the group?) I even have a Big Bertha and a 902 driver.

I never thought I’d get to where I’m at now. It first started with a Callaway Diablo. Then Mizuno irons…soon I was buying wedges. Then PXG came along and I thought, wow these could be my last set of irons for a while.

But my addiction took over. The very next year was a new set of PXGs, and 4 drivers. I couldn’t stop myself. Hybrids, wedges, fairway woods, mini driver, new irons again, new driver, new shafts….make it stop!!!

Clubs get blamed for whatever our personal weaknesses are. Great putters rarely change putters, etc etc. for me it’s my irons. I rarely change woods, hybrids or putter. It doesn’t help that every year we’re bombarded with propaganda insinuating that these new irons/whatever are so much better, will solve all my problems.
you know how it goes, first I was told I wasn’t hitting my irons far enough. Now I’m told that my 28 degree 7 iron and low spin balls don’t go high enough. It never ends.

Yeah, I had a set of Ping G15's for 12 years before trading them in in 2020. That's when things went off the rails. Buying, selling, then buying more. It's become a bit of a mess at this point.

Plus, living where I do now makes it that much worse. We have 5 courses inside this community, the cost is well below anywhere else to play a round, and I even get special rates for about 12 rounds when you buy the coupon sheets in November for the following year.

Then add all the stuff I've learned about golf, fitting, clubs, etc the past 3-4 years, and it's a recipe for disaster, at least for my golf bag that is.

Evidently this is a plague of omission in the education of even the extraordinarily smart female family leaders throughout the country if not the world.. There should be a research fund to find a cure or to at least to set up a foundation for the victimized under equipped husbands.

Good day , my name is sparkee and I …. My story starts with getting a set of jazz irons and after a summer of not knowing where the ball is going . I found out at the driving range that in  4 of my irons the glue was letting go and the head was moving  . From that point I became a tinkerer , yes a tinkerer . Experiments began getting more and more complex requiring specialized tools to get proper results . I am 67 now and the garage is full and I am slowing down 👏.it is still hard not to scratch the itch . Oh what the hell it’s good fun ! Enjoy your golf existence wherever  It takes you ladies and gentlemen. It is a life long sport !

Oh my, now you've gone and done it and opened Pandora's box.  Guilty as charged.  I admit, I like testing new equipment and every year will schedule at least two fittings to try things I like.  Does it always go in the bag?  Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  But at the very least, I make notes on what I like, what worked well, what shafts I liked and what didn't.  Case in point, did a recent Ping fitting looking at the Blueprint S irons.  Really nice irons, great feel, performed well, until I saw the price.   They were approaching Miura territory, so my Mizuno's are safe for now.

Possible? Yes. But it requires you to actually list them for sale and take pictures. That's pretty much where most get stuck. I know if I want to get more, selling is the only answer. Plus, I'm going to start building/rebuilding my own clubs and that equipment and start-up costs aren't small. Some day that loft/lie machine will be in my garage. Along with a shaft frequency machine, digital swing weight scale, belt sander/buffer, and a bunch of totally unnecessary gear. I just need to get a few firearms sold and I can afford them. 🙂

The one thing that has kept me from purchasing more clubs this year is back fusion surgery. I can't go hit any of the clubs I am interested in so that is holding me back. Even trying a putter made my back sore, but just in the last week things have started feeling better and I start PT today.

I can't wait to hit some new drivers, maybe the PXG Black OPS stuff and a few others, my concern is my swing speed will be down since I haven't swung a club since January and that will skew any results.

My Srixon ZX 5 MKii irons are safe and probably my putter, for now.

I acknowledge I have a problem buying clubs, but I embrace it.

I am really missing all the free club fittings and hitting clubs at PGA tour superstore that I usually partake in this time of year. 😭

Wow, I never thought of doing a fitting just to try stuff out.  Hmmm.  I can spend $150 every few months to SAVE me hundreds of dollars...every few months.  Should I be happy with you or not?

Some big box golf stores will offer free promo fittings for certain manufacturers.

it was during a promo fitting I found out my swing speed increased and the regular shafts were no longer the best fit for me.
Didn't want to spring for new clubs and am really close to getting into the building aspect.  Thinking about re-shafting an existing set.  Or practicing on some older clubs.

I'm a little over 1 year into the game and I have two sets of clubs already.  I can now see how things add up quickly.  The reason I see is there's always something new coming out and I want to try it all to see if it will improve my game.  Thinking about my third putter now.  I've bought a putter last October and by Christmas wanted a newly released version.  😞

New doesn't always mean better. Admittedly there have been some impressive advancements in forgiveness with the drivers over the last couple years. But don't fall into the trap of thinking that each new iteration of clubs is better than the last. Remember that manufacturers are constantly decreasing the loft of clubs to increase distance. That alone should tell you that they haven't found any other way to increase overall distance, especially in irons. Save your money for quality golf balls. Now, excuse me while I go shopping for my 17th putter.

I truly am ANTI-ADDICTION.   In 35 years of playing I have had the following equipment.

Initial Set:  D,3W, 5w,   3-PW, 56d, putter(unknown brand obtained from brother who didn't play at time). (circa 1991 $149.00)

I do not have an addiction to the point I switch sets, as I only have 1 set. But I do apparently have (according to the boss lady) a problem with goodwill/thrift stores for golf stuff of any kind.

One day I may just find an entire iron set, that can be fairly easily rehabbed back into existence .

WITB-Foremost 551's - 3w, 5w, 5-SW (circa 1998), Top Flite 460cc Driver, Adam's 7w, Warrior GW and 60⁰, Odyssey AI-One DB putter.

Just an old newbie golfer, trying to learn and improve 1 club at a time.

Lol!!  That's the truth!  A buddy of mine has a set of Maxfli Revolution (black dot) CB irons that I've always really liked.  I've been searching for the past couple of years for some irons that felt similar and I ended up with a set of JPX 923 Tours.  They're are pretty darn close in feel.  I think those Maxfli irons came out in like 2002?
