2024 NFL Draft

Recommended Posts

It starts tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited for it. Have a lot hinging on the draft for dynasty teams and so on. The draft is one of my favorite parts of the season and although there is likely to be little to no surprise with the first pick it should be an entertaining night with some great prospects!

As someone who likes to watch the American football games but doesn’t have a great deal of knowledge around the intricacies would someone be good enough to explain what the draft is and how it works?
Admittedly I’m English so also have no idea why you call it football when the ball doesn’t really get kicked 🤣

Don't ask me.... I'm pretty sure I was secretly born across the pond as I don't watch any football and grew up playing soccer.

All 32 teams take turns picking kids who have finished playing college football and want to go pro. Football doesn't have younger teams like all the Euro teams do for soccer. They refill their rosters each year by drafting kids from all the colleges and College football serves as the developmental league of sorts for the pros. All the pro sports in the US, basketball, hockey, baseball, do it this way.

I am quite intrigued by the draft this year for the Packers for sure. Last year EVERYTHING was focused around "the Packers are gonna suck" "get ready for the dark ages" "Jordan Love won't be good" etc. We also really didn't seem to have many offensive weapons and then last year happened. I feel great about the WR and TE positions, great about the interior defensive line.

If Cooper De Jean is there at 25, I would love to see them draft him as depth in the secondary is always an issue for GB. He's a natural corner, but I think there's been some talk he could potentially slide to the safety position to pair with Xavier McKinney. I was disappointed they let Darnell Savage walk, so that spot is a priority in my book.

They could also use an ILB or edge rusher for some added depth with the new defensive scheme, and need some depth on the offensive line. Traditionally they have done well drafting OL positions in the mid rounds and finding solid prospects, but if there's a great Tackle left at 25 that's also a good pick.

Should be a fun draft to follow!

I have pick 4 and 6 in our main dynasty draft. Which for me is great. Would love to sneak in a QB/WR combo, but if I get two WR I will also be quite happy.

Pats have big decisions to make and I am terrified of them all. @GolfSpy_KFT we are hearing all the same things but I am fairly confident no matter who we take next year will be rough again and if we get very lucky maybe in year 2 if we get the QB in this draft things will move in the right direction.

DeJean seems like a dynamic player that would be a good fit given Green Bay's needs.

Not sure which system is better. Trying to predict the talent of 12 years olds that you are trying to develop and the kids moving around between the lower age teams. Or somehow having our education institutions filling the role of developmental league for many sports. Hockey still have a number of players in Canada and abroad that skip, though some get drafted at 18 and then still get to go to college for a few years before entering the pro leagues which is also pretty wild.

Agreed. I think developmental leagues are better but after 100 years of doing things a certain way I don’t think either system could change.

I'm in Detroit now, leaving town this evening just as things start to ramp up for the draft. There was a welcome desk for incoming draft fans last night at my hotel, and there are NFL Draft signs all over the place. I'm a Packer fan too, dating back to the Lombardi/Titletown era (yes I'm old enough to remember the Ice Bowl). Have my one share of Packers stock which is completely worthless. I tell people I own as many shares of an NFL team as my fellow Arkansas graduate Jerry Jones. Only his share is worth $9 billion or so and mine is worth zilch.

There are so many QBs this year that could go in the first round so it could be a wild round for sure with teams moving all over the place.

In High School I dreamed of playing in the NFL.  Only had a few division III schools interested.  Ended up going to a Division I school and decided concentrate on studies instead of attempting to walk on.  Played a couple years of college/club level Rugby which I enjoyed but definitely couldn't keep up at the bar after matches.

For players that get to that level I wish them great success, future health and hopefully a wonderful 2nd career after.

Now golf on the other hand, one can still keep that up for decades and decades 😀

As a lifelong Patriots fan, I've cheered the one win seasons and of course the 6 super bowl wins, but the last few years have been disappointing to say the least. It'll be interesting to see if they do draft someone at 3, or do like they used to do and trade away one first round pick for a dozen in later rounds. the NFL can be such a crap shoot that some guys drafted at 199 in the 6th round, for example, can be great and others drafted high in round 1 stink from the jump. Either way, I'll be paying attention.

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

I’m hoping the 9ers upgrade the offensive line.

The game is won or lost in the trenches. Other than Trent Williams the o-line for the 9ers is average at best. They need a better line to keep up the dominance!

As a lifelong, die-hard Raiders fan. I am cautiously optimistic about this year's draft. Or GM is coming over from the Chargers and he had a lot of great picks over there in San Die...errrr Los Angeles. But, our spot is kind of middling. The only QB I could see falling to us would be Penix and while I like Penix, I am not 100% on him. I feel like we are wasting Davante so we do need something and I am not sure Minshew is the answer, even though I like the guy. We will see what happens and if we can make a splash. The Silver & Black faithful are dying out here, we need something!

Same here. I'm a dues-paying member of Arsenal FC so yesterday's 5-nil waxing of Chelsea was a highlight of my day. Will be tough for us to top Manchester City for the Prem title, but at the same time MCFC has no room for error either. And I have a good friend who has the misfortune of being a Tottenham fan, so we go back and forth on that. Especially this weekend since Arsenal visits Tottenham for the North London Derby.

It must be great to still have a football team.

After 20 years of Tom Brady, I simply couldn't watch what followed up our way.

It's like the game doesn't exist for me anymore.

I'd rather watch Korean language dramas on Netflix.

Though hockey makes a bit more sense up here in NH

I spend a lot of time in Raleigh, and one of the hotels I rotate is right across the street from PNC Arena, but not when the Canes are in town; they jack up the room rates on hockey nights. Haven't made it to a game there yet. My only NHL game to date was when I attended a medical convention in Montreal probably 25 years ago. Sat up in the nosebleeds at Centre Bell where all the teenagers sit; I was the oldest one in my section by about 20 years and the only one who didn't speak French. Really enjoyed it though, and at some point I'm going to go to some Canes games.

College hockey is a weird one to bring up. you have less than 200 schools that are governed by the NCAA, but you have over 400 that are not and are a part of the ACHA. It makes no sense to me why not all colleges are governed by the same institution, but I also don't make the money to make those decisions.

Don't ask me.... I'm pretty sure I was secretly born across the pond as I don't watch any football and grew up playing soccer.

I have a Premier League team I've followed for a good while now. And it's only because they have the same colors as my St. Louis Cardinals. that would be Manchester United.

I'll be in the clubhouse after my Thursday night league round seeing what the Patriots do with the 3rd pick.

They should draft a left tackle.

They don't need to draft a quarterback.

Sixty-one year old Doug Flutie is sitting around doing nothing, and our offense won't do any better with anybody else anyway.

20 years of Tom Brady, and then we get a clown car as follow-up.

I can't make myself watch anymore.
