Have to admit the whole split and all this will he won't be along with not seeing the best players on one spot outside of maybe majors has killed my enthusiasm for watching any pro golf.

To the point I likely won't even bother with fantasy golf anymore.

Sucks but this whole thing (both sides) and the drama has made pro golf unappealing to watch or follow. I'll check in for the majors  but count me out on the rest.

This is where I'm at as well.  I use to watch golf every week, now I just watch the majors.

That's interesting to see your 9 iron spin numbers in comparison to MyGolfSpy's ball test results this year. It looks like the Chrome Soft, Q-Star Tour, and AVX were all near the bottom of spin for "mid iron".

    MyGolfSpy test (link)

    • AVX: 7,018
    • Chrome Soft: 6,909
    • Q-Star Tour: 6,673

    and you had-

    • TEST: 6,259
    • Chrome Soft: 5,740
    • Q-Star Tour: 6,016

You got the lowest spin with the Chrome Soft for all 3 clubs, whereas the MyGolfSpy test had less spin with Q-Star Tour (both iron and driver).

Who knows, It could be that my QED is not as accurate as the GC Quads used in their testing, or it could just be me.  Also, the Chrome Soft I used was a Truvis which my QED seems to pick up the spin on, so I did not dot that one up like I did the others.  It could just be that the Chrome Soft numbers are off, I will look and see if I have a regular Chrome Soft in my collection to put dots on and test again.

  3. I did some more testing yesterday with my Uneekor QED launch monitor. This time I tested the test ball against 2 of my gamers from this season. The Callaway Chromesoft Truvis and the Srixon Q Star Tour.  I also gamed the OnCore Elixr for a while, but couldn't find the one I had dotted up for the launch monitor.

I hit 9 iron, 5 hybrid, and driver this time.  I had eerily similar numbers this time around on all 3 clubs.  I wasn't swinging the driver my best, by my 9 iron and hybrid numbers were right where I would expect.  The only real difference was the Chromesoft spun about 10% less than both the test ball and the Q Star Tour.  The Chromesft was also 1 to 2 mph slower which explains why the totals where pretty much dead even.

Overall, I really like the test ball.  It seems to fit in with the lower compression urethane cover balls I've played the past several years.  But assuming this is a premium Titleist, I don't see any significant difference over the Srixon that is about $20 cheaper per dozen.

Thanks again to Titleist and MGS for the opportunity to test.

  4. I was able to get out on the course yesterday to compare the test ball to my gamer Chrome Soft Truvis.  The test ball was a bit longer off the tee, but not enough that would make me switch.  Where it was the most impressive to me was my approach shots.  It was much more consistant in dispersion both front to back and side to side than my gamer ball.  I assume this is due to the increased spin that I was seeing in the simumlator numbers.  Also, it definitely checked up better on pitch shots than what I am use to seeing.  I had zero issues with durability unlike several of the other reports so far in this thread.

  5. My Hackmotion device showed up a few days ago and I could not be more pleased with my purchase.  Last year when I went through my iron fitting the video showed a definite flip at impact and the Hackmotion confirms that.  I've only tried a few drills so far but I have had no improvement yet.  My son who is about 2 clubs longer came over last night and was hitting the targets everytime.  Hopefully of I can find the right drill that gets though my thick skull I will be able to compess the ball better and find some extra distance I've been giving away with the flip.

  6. My son came over last night to hit some balls, so I had him test the same AVX, Pro V1, and Chrome Soft against the test ball. He's a couple of clubs longer than me, but had very similar results. The test ball was very close to the AVX with a bit more spin.

One thing that was interesting is we both hit the AVX and test ball higher than the Pro V1 which is not what Titleist says the AVX is supposed to do. Another thing that has been a constant trend is that all 3 Titleist balls consistently out perform my gamer ball.  I will probably be making a change for next season.

Just don't go by the lofts and lie angles that are shown on the machine for specific clubs. That Scotland L & L Machine is showing lofts and lie angles that were the "standards" about 30-40 years ago, and today's irons, besides being about 1/2" or more longer in playing length than "classic" irons, are several (or even MANY) degrees stronger in loft and one to three degrees more upright than "classic" irons that are the basis for the numbers shown on your machine.

You are correct on that.  I had to set it 2 clubs off from what I was measuring to get in the correct loft range.  They have 7 iron marked as 38 degrees which what my 9 iron is supposed to be according the the specs.

  8. I measured all of my clubs today. My irons averaged around 1 degree weak on loft and 1.5 degrees up on lie which probably explains why my shot pattern tends to be left of center with my irons.  The biggest shock was both of my wedges came in at 3 degrees weak. I'm pretty comfortable with my wedge distances, so I probably won't change them, but I was not expecting that much difference.
