Don't forget to check out our Community Map for members close by and course reviews!
https://forum.mygolfspy.com/communitymap/

In addition be sure to do your own course reviews so others know what courses are worth going to and what ones should be avoided if in the area!

It truly is a special place. And the course will test your golf capabilities. The course (IMHO) is not punishing, rather a joy to play, even if you hit an errant shot and find yourself in the tall, wispy stuff. Also, for the 'dunes' part, if you find yourself in the sand - which is likely at some point, the sand is consistent and playable. IMHO it is a top 5 public course here in MI. Hope you're able to get on and play it. Would love to hear after your trip how it went, or if you ended up somewhere else.

@Indy_Oz I was lucky enough to play it last year and it was a blast. Almost feels like a North Carolina sand hills course placed into Michigan (in a good way). Great overall atmosphere and amenities to compliment an excellent course.

Welcome! I do love Big Met, except that the starters are just trying to get as many people on the course as possible. You could say that about most of the Metroparks courses though.

Oh that’s absolutely the case. Jam Pack the course and then sender the ranger out to yell at a group of 4 (my group) because you let a group of 2 tee off four minutes behind them.

Big Met is always miserable for slow play but I know most of the rangers there, or used to. Had the most aggressive starter at Seneca though - arrived an hour early to work on my putting and the starter would not take my “I want to practice” for an answer 🙄 and blocked way to the practice green…

- How long have you been playing golf?

I’ve been playing for just under two years now following my father in law taking me on my first round during a vacation. My wife and I came home from that trip, took our first lesson, and haven’t looked back.

- What’s your handicap or normal score?

Handicap is ~18 right now and usually shoot low 90’s

- What do you love about golf?

Just being outside and getting away from the day to day grind for a few hours. I also love the process of getting better even though it’s incredibly frustrating. Golf has also provided the opportunity to travel to and enjoy some very beautiful courses and meet some great people.

- What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I had first seen some of their reviews pop up on Instagram so I googled them and fell down the rabbit hole of tests and reviews.

- Where are you from? What is your home course?

Southern Indiana and my home course is Oak Meadow Country Club

- What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The best is the large amount of courses and the affordability of most of them. We also have some fantastic, world class courses such as French Lick and Victoria National nearby. The bad is our seasonal weather. I do play year-round, however Winters can be brutal and the Summer is equally hot and humid.

- What do you do for a living?

I’m a Mechanical Engineer.

- How’d you pick your user name?

I live in Southern Indiana and golf. Simple and to the point haha.

I swear at Seneca they are putting groups out 2 minutes between people. My buddy and I got there 5 minutes ahead of our tee time and he was screaming at us for being late and then mad that we wouldn’t hit into the group of 4 in the fairway ahead of us, threatening to kick us off of the course.

How long have you been playing golf? I've been playing off an on for 30 years. I started getting more serious about it two years ago when my son, 13, started playing for his middle school.

What’s your handicap or normal score? 14

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

I recently got into golf this summer after my cousin encouraged me to join him. I hit a chip shot off the rough for par in my first outing and have been hooked since! I normally play 9 hole with an average score of 43.

What do you love about golf?

First and foremost golf is fun! I enjoy morning tee times on my weekends to unwind from the work week. I'm also a very competitive person and strive to improve in the things I enjoy. It has been motivating to see my improvement from just a few months. I went to chunking the biggest divots with my irons and 6 putting holes to making decent contact and keeping it to 3 puts. I have found a hobby that'll stick for a lifetime and I'm excited for the Journey.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

Google brought me here as I have been figuring out the game. I owe a lot of my knowledge to the forum! I wanted to join a community to talk golf and MyGolfSpy has been nothing but welcoming 🙂

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I'm from Michigan and currently living in the Lansing area for school. I don't quite have a course I would call home yet as I have tried a new course each time this summer.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Although I haven't experienced it yet, I'm very much looking forward to golfing in the autumn as the leaves change color. Although the leaves will be all over the course, at least it will be scenic. The worst thing is definitely the shortened season. Not looking forward to the cold winter months without golf.

What do you do for a living?

I am a biology research scientist. Currently I'm perusing a PhD at Michigan State University.

How’d you pick your user name?

Not quite an exciting story, It's a shortened version of my name

Welcome from a fellow Michigander here! Just got a Group Golfer voucher to play Brookshire Inn Golf and Country club just outside of Lansing!

Greetings! My name is Nate Kuhn, and I've been a fan of MGS for a while but only recently joined up on the forums. I love tech, gear, etc and really enjoy talking shop and comparing techniques, metrics and whatnot.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I started in the spring of 2022. Quickly became OBSESSED and log around 75 rounds (admittedly mostly 9 hole rounds) and practice multiple times per week. My current hcp is 9.1 (been as low as 8.2) but seems to be back on its way down.

What do you love about golf?
I find it's a casual/safe space to be competitive, work on self improvement without any need for timing of other factors (other people, etc) and so few things take such a long time to steadily improve - it's just terrific in terms of healthy obsessions.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Spent enough time reading reviews, etc I figured i'd join up and possibly have a chance to do some gear reveiws of my own. I love writing and reviewing - sharing first hand experiences, etc.

Where are you from? What is your home course? I live in Warrenville, IL - about 30 miles due west of Chicago. I play lots of the (MANY) local courses but my two favorites close by are Prairie Landing in West Chicago and Cantigny in Winfield.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best is the sheer quantity of courses - there are HUNDREDS of tracks in the chicago area. The worst thing is that the population is still high enough it can be difficult to get on during peak hours and play is generally SLOW unless you play at the crack of dawn.

What do you do for a living? I'm a structural packaging engineer

How’d you pick your user name? Until recently, I moonlighted as a motorcycle corespondant for a youtube channel (the cycle report was my segment) as well as serving as head writer (of a team of 6) for their website. This just matches up with some of my other social media accounts so may as well keep using it to not have a million names around.

How long have you been playing golf?
I played a lot as a kid -  my parents would sign me up for golf leagues. It was always fun but I grew out of it into my early teens. Now I'm some combination of at the range or playing 18 2-3x per week.

What’s your handicap or normal score?

High 90s to low 100s, but I'm getting a lot better in parts of my game. I'll have a hole or two where I hit a bad shot and wind up taking penalties and putting up a +6, then hit par 3 times in a row.

What do you love about golf?

It's similar to my other athletic love, weightlifting. It's about mastering a movement

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I keep finding myself reading the content, so I figured why not join.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

Columbus, Ohio. I wouldn't say I have one.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The summers here are long. We get daylight until 9pm which allows us ample tee times. We can tee off at 4PM and play all 18. The winter.

What do you do for a living?

Data Science.

How’d you pick your user name?

I'd say it explains itself.

Yeah I pop over to arrowhead fairly often as well. I actually just played Pottawatamie (sp) the first time a few weeks ago. I had wanted to for a while now but they don't book singles and since most of my golf is during the week before/after work, I usually play alone so that's problematic haha. Great little 9h course though!

Hi everyone, I'm Pep from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just recently joined the forum after stalking the review section for a while. Figured its time to actually introduce myself.

- How long have you been playing golf?

Short answer: 2 years. Long answer: Started golf in 2012 but went into golf hiatus for over 10 years due to constant travel. Returned to golf in 2022 and now been golfing every day since.

- What’s your handicap or normal score?

I'm an 18 Handicap - but on a bad day it could get ugly.

- What do you love about golf?

In golf you can go from hitting a tour caliber shot to shanking it in one hole. Chasing the tour caliber shot is addicting.

- What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

MyGolfSpy has a lot of resources for golfers. I want to help build this community of Golf Spies. No I do not know any other spies here.

- Where are you from? What is your home course?

Grand Rapids, Michigan. Indian Trails Golf Course.

- What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Its cold in Michigan, so you can only golf for 5-6 months out of the year. But its not too hot when you can play.

- What do you do for a living?

I'm an International Business Manager.

- How’d you pick your user name?

I'm pep. So Peppygolfer
