Richmond/Williamsburg/Charlottesville VA Area

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow VA Spies. Anyone in the Richmond, Williamsburg, Charlottesville area that would want to meet up and play in the area sometime? I don't have a ton of golfing buddies here in the Richmond area all of them are in my hometown of VA Beach. Looking to get out and play more with people I know than getting paired up. I have the luck of always getting paired up with A**holes.

Was just down in Richmond a few weeks ago for a golf weekend with buddies. Played Golden Horseshoe Green and Gold. Also Royal New Kent. Lots of nice courses down there.

Well, as long as you don't mind helping me search for balls in the woods occasionally, I'll play with ya 😉

Just played Federal Club yesterday and had a grand time. Also play RCC, Jefferson Lakeside, and a few other haunts that aren't dirt tracks. Hit me up if you're interested.

So who do you know to get into all these private courses? Going to send you a PM with my number and we can set something up. I'm not as good as you think I am lol.

I know me 😉 I'm a member at Westwood and we have reciprocity with a bunch of local clubs. Those three are just the closest. Think we also have reciprocity with a bunch down near Williamsburg, but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.

Nice. I haven't joined a club simply because I don't have the time. I've played Federal back when it was semi-private. Can you do guests at the reciprocating courses? What is Westwood's home course since they don't have one?

I'm a member at Independence over in Midlothian. If you're looking to join somewhere, I don't think there is a better deal in Richmond. It has to be in the top 3, condition wise, in Richmond right now behind only Kinloch and CCV's River Course.

I've been wanting to play Independence for a long time. I'm in Mechanicsville, so it's almost an hour to get there. If you get a good guest rate I'll play sometime if you want to.

That's why I enjoy Westwood - more central location to me (I'm in near west end), amazing pool, gym, dining, etc... Plus Tennis if I want to pick that up AND I get access to 3 great courses in the area as if I were a member there - including bringing a guest along! The "home" course is RCC since the two clubs have had a long relationship.

Had to double check the list and looks like Two Rivers, Brandermill, Princess Ann, Cavalier, and Birkdale are also full reciprocation - eg: I can call and schedule a tee time and bring a guest.

Awesome we should plan something if you want. I am super busy every Saturday due to soccer and cheerleading with my daughters, but I'll be off work on Columbus Day if you will be, maybe we can go play a round.

Just played Royal New Kent this summer, great course!  Condition was pretty good too!  Heard it had some problems in the past but I can say as of early July it looked and played great!

It did have its problems. It was unkempt for about a year and a half it sat while closed waiting for a buyer. I think it is way too overpriced for what it is. If you come again play Brickshire next door to it, better shape and half the cost.

Sounds good.  We played it on our way through to Pinehurst.  I love Strantz designed golf courses, intimidating sight lines but large landing zones!  We play Tobacco Road almost every year.

I'm down here in Midlothian.  Didn't realize there were so many Richmonders here on the forum (other than @Tarheelvolvo).  In addition to those here on this thread, I believe there's another forum member that recently joined Meadowbrook.  We need to have a meet-up soon.
