Popular Post KC Golf
Belated Good Morning Spies! While I spent my morning in meetings and drinking some nice coffees. I missed this mega debate on LAB putters. Wow. Lots of content! I am not sure if I will ever switch, but I keep seeing more people using these zero torque, swing balanced putters. One guy who I would say is very knowledgeable as a long time Golf Pro swears by them. I guess we will see what 2025 brings. I still can’t get over the looks of some of LAB putters. The PXG Allan is better looking to me. Can’t wait to hear more from @Golfspy_CG2 on his experiences with it. Agree with the concept that the centerline of the shaft needs to be through the CoG to eliminate any torque, but maybe the "offset" grips may just make it easier for the majority to position hands/club properly for optimum results? Popular Post Coulter
Good morning! It’s finally Friday! With my home course closed for some tournaments this weekend and my wife working today and tomorrow I’ll likely not get a chance to play this weekend. I normally take my 3 year old with me when the wife is working but considering in the past I’ve played full rounds with him in tow all the way to only getting in 1 hole before he had enough and we had to leave I think I’ll not even try it this weekend. I’m not excited at the thought of paying for 9-18 holes only to play 1 lol at my home course that’s not an issue. Playing a little later this morning at The Club at Ironwood in Staunton. It is my favorite course within a few miles of home, but the downside to playing there is that the 'Members' have a real hard time understanding it is now a 'SEMI' private course. They really are a**holes to the public that plays there. The management is fine; it's just the members who remember the 'good old days'. Just recently I have attained a long held goal: I achieved a single digit handicap. I am currently at 9.9, but know it would not take much to push me back over 10, so diligence will be the goal today. I have learned to play from the Senior Tees, to play my game, and not what I wished my game is, and to trust my shot tracking application (Arccos for now). I have also cut back my hours for my post retirement side job to 2 to 3 days a week. I am hopeful this will allow more golf!! We have a similar attitude at one of the courses in Pawleys Island SC. About 15 years ago a golf group bought out the course because the course was darn near insolvent. The old members do not like it one bit and act snobby. I told one that had it not been for the golf group buying them out they would not have a course to play at period. Those old farts have the attitude that their poop does not stink. The other one is Tom Wishon. IMHO this is a new way to do old things which there is nothing wrong with. I think @Hickory4ever will agree here. If you want a low torque shaft that is "solid" so to speak then go hickory. There are lots of ways to achieve putter action with shafts. Go back to the late 50s early 60s. John Reuter used a fluted shaft in the famous Bulls Eyes as did TP Mills. Actually, for me I love the old, fluted shafts so much I have one in my 1997 Scotty Santa Fe. Wilson back in the 60s had a specially designed putter shaft called the Speed Head with the green band in their 8802 and 8813 putters. A more modern trick showed to me by my friend who was a master builder and fitter is a Sensicore shaft on shaft into head putters like say a Ping Anser. There are a lot of combos out there shaft wise and like everything else in golf you can tune to an individual's feel. No right or wrong here. As far as a LAB putter themselves I have rolled one in the Broomstick fashion. If I was going back to a Broomstick I might get one. The one I did roll had great balance and feel. Far as conventual wise frankly and honestly, I cannot stand to look down at one. I will admit that may be part of my old school ways. In a nutshell I will say if it works for someone then let it be. You will never see me write something bad about a club because it does not fit my eye or feel. Hey when I play vintage I have had people ask "How in the world can you roll that Bulls Eye or any other classic putter I play that day?" Popular Post EasyPutter
Good morning MGSpies on this early Friday last one in October with the work computer connecting, coffee only just ready to sip and a quiet house upstairs on this zero commute last workday of the week. Yesterday was a good day with a lighter than usual workload and a quick out the door to the course arriving as that same group of summer league golfers were arriving to get out for "one last round", and the Starter waved me on to the tee box before anyone else got to it with only one of the (out of season) league groups already well down the first fairway. To my surprise as I waited for my third shot onto the green, the first group called back to me I was going to play through at the 2nd tee box, a nice surprise, dropped the ball on the green just over a foot from the pin, 1-putt and then thanking the foursome had nobody in front of me except Justin @just52887 and his dad a couple holes ahead of me. Tee shot across Cazenovia Creek on the par 3 3rd is the green Callaway ball between my push cart and the pin in the photo. Would have been a quickest round of the year had it not been for the fall colors and stopping to take more photos than necessary as passing clouds made it difficult to spot a good scene lit up in bright sunshine only to be in shade by the time phone was switched from SwingU app to camera and right setting. And then heading to the 8th tee I connected in the community call so everything stopped with phone as it became the live feed for my last two holes as I understand Jamie tagged me for the primary feed so everyone saw my "relaxed" way of playing golf, not worrying about anything and just enjoying the being there. Today is Veteran related activities, friends and colleagues from work getting together for the Avenue Flags maintenance activity we do about every 5 weeks, would have been Wednesday but with most of us with travel to get to the WNY National Cemetery and a 50% chance of rain and if it does rain the maintenance is postponed as wet flags don't store well and they need to be dry to be sewn, it was moved to today at 5pm, respectfully waiting until after official visiting hours. A strategic move to today since at 6pm there is a Veteran MeetUp planned for the Glen Park Tavern in Williamsville if anyone reading wants to show up there's that going on. So no golf today for me and weekend is for the house so looking forward to another week of golf next week as the weather is looking favorable. Hope golf is a part of your day! Popular Post BIG STU
Good morning. Up early catching up on things. Sorry I again missed the CC last night, Like I said something always comes up. Yesterday it was a friend and old school collector calling from Chicago. We go back a long way back to the Classics forum on WRX. We ended up on the phone for close to 2 hrs. We were catching up and he had just learned I was no longer on WRX. He said the Classics Forum had changed too. Some of the older guys had passed away or moved on like I did. I am trying to get him over here. I told him we did not really have a classics forum here but we could openly discuss things like classic stuff and no one gets bent out of shape. I told him also staff was open minded and perhaps if we get enough cross overs we maybe could get a Classics Section going. I told him @Hickory4ever was more active over here since I had came back Yesterday was not a good day golf wise. Found out early my partner was in the hospital with some kind of kidney problem. I started to go back home because we were out of it anyhow. The other team which consisted of the league President (who is one outgoing funny guy) told me well hang around and play besides we will have fun. The comp chairman said I would get a blind draw. I told him not to sweat it that he had enough work to do without it that we were 10 shots out of it anyhow. I never got into it yesterday at all. Was sort of lost on the swing. Hit some good and bad shots. My partner who is a nice guy is never outgoing but not a butthole either. He is just real quiet and reserved and lives in his own word. They asked me about him Tuesday and I told them he did not play well at all but never complained (never does). I had no indication anything was wrong with him. I did realize something. With my handicap sliding up and down like it has been doing frankly I cannot compete in A flight anymore. I like to be competitive. This event was also drawn out as the main leagues even normal days are. One of the reasons I play the small money games instead of the main league. Actually our group being a 3 some went off first. We started on the back side and were done in 1 1/2 hrs. Front side we ran into of course Snowbird traffic. The way they do things at that course the guys behind us got mixed in-between Snowbird groups. We sat in the club house darn near an hour before a few of our groups were in. I did buy a mandatory half and half ticket ($2) I put my name on mine and handed it to our President and told him I was not sticking around I was not winning anything anyhow. I went home. I am actually thinking of dropping the league next year but you have to be a member to play the spin off game. I am not playing today due to the fact we have a meeting with our Medicare Insurance guy at 11:00. I have not signed up for anything next week either. Tomorrow I am on the Par3 with the wife and Sunday morning I am planning on playing vintage with my 2 buds. I am on the fence right now being in a slump and inconsistent. I am thinking of dropping out all together for a while and playing the Par3 with the wife and vintage some. I think right now I am burned out on golf. Maybe I have played too much this year. I was looking in my little notebook and I have played 110 rounds at my home course, 3 rounds on neighboring courses and 25 rounds on the Par3. I had to take him to our Vet and have him put down. Popular Post Hickory4ever
Good morning from SW Ontario where fall is back. The mornings are cool and we will have a frost delay for Hickory Friday. We may get an isolated shower but the temperature should be pleasant for this time of year. @BIG STU and I share the view that many things modern in the golf world are rehashes of old concepts. I have always favoured a centre shafted putter and play one whether hickory, classic, or modern. I am a feel player, especially with putting and I like a traditional look. I still putt with a Bullseye for the most part, although my Otey Crisman mallet (hickory shafted) is just as effective. My hickory gamer is a 1904 Schenectady and is just as effective and has great feel. For as long as there have been golfers, new putters have been developed in search of greatness. I expect that will continue and predict that prices will continue to rise as the search for magic continues. For most of my fifty years of golfing, I tried the newest innovation in search of better scores but found that improving technique paid bigger dividends. Most changes in equipment give modest improvements at best but I encourage everyone to do what makes you feel good. In the last seven years, I have focused more on appreciating the history of the game, especially the equipment used. The biggest differences are in the “woods”. My handicap index with hickory clubs is only 3 points higher than modern, driven by the course rating of playing one tee forward with hickory. My scores are virtually the same. I do enjoy the banter on the forum even though I am not a modern club ho any more. EasyPutter, Cfhandyman, Wheelieb and 15 others 17 1 Quote Play everything from the hickory era to modern equipment.
