Beautiful day 78* and light winds.

I'm still recovering from my putting lesson last week, even after 3 practice sessions. Today I missed an 18"putt on a par 5 that would have been a birdie 😡. On another par 5,  I had 2 balls in the water off the tee and that was after I lost a ball in the water on a previous hole 🤬🤬. At least I finished the last hole with a par. Overall 90 wasn't horrible and the 3 lost balls could have been worse. But our 4 man team won and we got to split $48.

Just above the blue box with the scores you';; see a box on the right  that says post score. It's pretty self explanatory from there.

Three Holes in One

Plus, when I was 5 the first ball I ever hit on a golf course went in the hole, so I have that going for me.

My bag is a mish mash of Srixon drivers, cobra and adams fairways, TA1 irons and Hopkins wedges, plus a Cure putter.

Fantastic weather yesterday. Got to walk for once in a long while - definitely out of shape since last fall. Long drive was nothing crazy but also not pretty. I pulled it and left myself with a weird shot from under a tree. Still was a great round.

Ever have one of those days you thought you played better than you scored.  Yep, sure you have!  Well, that was me today.  I shot an 87 (17 over par) and I could have sworn it was in the low to middle 80's.  Hey, that's the way it goes.

image.png.8bd3ee9539bb40a0749f4f7aac697b40.png

The 87 was 42/45.  On the front I had two greens in regulation (which is my normal number for 18 holes).  It seemed like I was constantly scrambling for bogeys (which now in hindsight yielded the 87).

image.png.84148e6d62424b649928c66bea3ed6bd.png

On hole 7 I hit it right into the trees/mangroves and took my penalty.  A five wood got me to 50 yards.  A pitch shot with my 55 degree sand wedge over the front trap to a front pin location left me with 13 ft. putt which I made feeling great that I pulled out a bogie from a certain double.  That's the way my day went!

I'm hoping for better luck on Thursday.

After talking about home course advantages in last week's thread, I got adverturous today. Found a municipal course I could get on after work and pray for a 3 hour round. I was scared to see the lot packed with cars and people all over the place but turns out it was just a ton of local high schools and colleges practicing! Pace of play was exemplary and my group was able to get all 18 in. Beautiful course and really great condition. Greens were fast and I wasn't able to really get them sorted out until the back nine.

I want to highlight #10 specifically. There were a lot of emotions and words were said. My biggest failure and one of the highlights of my round all in one hole. Tee shot was an easy 8 without much trouble to get into. I found a way to brick it off the toe and it fell just short of the green. Ok, no worries, a little bump and run with the PW and an easy putt can save this hole. Proceeds to blast the chip to the other side of the green (remember how I said the greens were fast lol). Ok, I'm out, just going to barely tap this next chip and hope to save bogey. I hit the ball and don't even watch it but immediately start walking towards the hole for the putt. Head hanging low, I glimps up to make sure I haven't sent it back to the front of the green and what do you know, it's falling in the hole to save par. Who needs a putter anyways?

image.png.eb108b49dafc5e9a07e1725d10cddf4d.png

Anyways, everything was reallly going well again today. Chips and approach shots were giving me opportunities and saving holes. Putts, while initially long, were rolling pretty pure. Drives: I just don't know what to say, I had maybe 1 that got a way from me and put me in some trees but otherwise it was point and shoot.

One thing I noticed here is that the greens are in much better condition. They were still a bit firm but less sand and more grass. Maybe someone here can explain why our greenskeeper at Surrey puts soo much sand on the greens. Leveling? Regardless, I could easily hold greens and even spun one back that almost got me in trouble. I think if it had rolled any further, it might have kept going for another 50yds down the huge hill the green was on.

I almost didn’t post this because of my level of disgust for my play this day. It was windy and the greens were much faster than I remembered them ever being. 4 putts on hole 7 almost caused me to have a mental breakdown. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Weather was  63* - 86* and Sunny. My swing felt much better. I guess my driver heard me thinking about going in the closet and started to perform…

These are my first two 9's back after taking some time away from playing...

The first nine started out a little rough... a few cobwebs in the swing and a playing into a pretty significant wind on the first half of the 9... But then I started clicking... caught a few good drives with the wind helping as I finished the last several holes on the front nine.  I was concentrating on good contact and AoA opposed to trying to get more out of the swing than I was ready for.. so probably played about 1/2 club more through the full 9 holes, and my putter helped me out a bit too.

20230221_154650.jpg

That was on Tuesday evening.

Then today, I was able to take a little time off work and found an opening at my course to get the back 9 in.  Driver was working well (Still swinging the TSR3 with the O-PH shaft) - finding 6 of 7 fairways.  The one errant tee shot (a well struck shot with a really nice draw - but I started it too far left, so it caught the corner tree on the dogleg... luckily it kicked straight right into the fairway) - and I hit one of the prettiest 7 woods I have ever hit... high, just casually falling to the left on its descent... about 180 carry, ended at 187 total - and I had about 15 feet for my birdie... burned the edge, and tapped in for par.

20230223_152930.jpg

The two birdies were both from 70 yards on the button.  I used my new favorite shot... the feet close together, all shoulders, 1/2 swing back and through (from 70 yards... that is a 54* for me).... Dropped them both right on top of the pin, I think I had about 6 feet total - adding both my birdie putts together.

Why I will start making this game hard again the next time I go out is a mystery to me... it seems so easy when the shots are flying right, and that feeling goes away even faster than it came.

I plan to get at least one more round in by the end of the weekend.  🙂

Looks like I will get a few days to try to get rounds in this week! This weather has been more wild than usual this year.

Oklahoma weather. . .
Got those 2 rounds in Monday and Tuesday but Wednesday, I wasn't able to finish since the cold front came in early. Got caught wearing shorts when the wind chill was in the 40s. Cold and/or wet ever since. Hoping I can get out Sunday since now the forecast shows windy with a high of 70.

What a round! Best golf I’ve played in ages. IMG_0982.png.acff27740ee43f1b638ada1601db2129.pngIf it wasn’t for that disgusting five over on the par five, it would have been one for my record books. Three shots out of a bunker and a penalty stroke on one hole is never good.

Great weather just could not chip or putt.  Shot Scope only recorded 2 holes. I don’t understand as it gave me yardage all day and I selected the number of putts after each hole. When I got home it only uploaded holes 7 & 8.

Sprayed the ball around on the front nine today, found my swing a bit better on the back nine.  40/36.  Two birdies.  Felt good to play a full 18!!
