cksurfdude
Had literally the best warmup ever today before playing - which, no, was not followed by the best 9 holes ever .. but then it wasn't the worst 9, either. Figured out something on the range with the driver, which had been working for me for a while this season and then of course recently totally fell apart - basically the ball position was too far back for me... In a lesson I'd been told that moving the ball back plus teeing it lower can help fight a slice / promote a draw .. but me being me it was having the opposite effect (go figger) .. so moved the ball up and a little higher and bango back in action (mostly ). Amazing how such small changes can have such large impacts in this crazy game!! Starting to hit the irons decently once in a while; but still struggling with not hitting the wedges well on the course and 2 chipping .. but otoh nearly chipped in twice .. ball just grazed the edge of the cup; and the putter was working pretty well today. So overall it's all still one big...... Work In Progress! MattF, cnosil, rkj427 and 4 others 7 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... TheBirdieMasterLOL
I unfortunately didn't golf today, but did work on my putting in my garage. My brother and I have a big two-man scramble tournament on Saturday (winning score is usually between 8 and 12 under par), so I need to get my putting entirely down before then. Johann Oosthuizen
On 8/27/2024 at 9:33 AM, Alf. S said: It maybe just me but I like reading about the bad rounds more than the good. I think at the moment I can empathise more. Thing can only get better. Went to the range yesterday with my wife. We both hit 100 balls and for me nothing could go wrong. All the shots where on distance and on direction, the most accurate that I have hit in a very long time. I am pretty sure that the range balls were pre-programmed to make me feel better about my golf. Actually wanted to collect those range balls and put them in my bag. I think the problem was that lately I was standing too upright trying to keep the toe of the club on the ground. Then yesterday morning I saw the video about the club toe setup that was posted and read the the comments that followed. So, at the range I just let my arms hang down freely before gripping the club with the toe ever so slightly off the ground, relaxed my shoulders completely, and on the backswing worked on the sensation of the club moving straight up. It all worked like a dream. With the driver I changed my tee from 48mm to 38mm but giving me approximately 42mm height off the ground, concentrated on minimal head movement by focusing on the grass just behind the ball, huge relaxed back swing to a trigger point on full rotation, triggering the down swing (similar to the break of a finely tuned glass trigger on a good hunting/sniper rifle), snapping the hips through on the down swing (although my back took some strain), working the wrists and ..... away she goes...... I hit the sweet spot on 95% of the shots. Drives accurate, straight as a bullet, and carry distances of >260m according to SwingCaddy. I am now so ready to take on the wife this weekend and break the 5 week losing streak against her. Played at Troon, Southern Dunes and the Raven golf club twice. Posted 82, 81, 79, 79 all from about 6500-6750 yards. Driver is still hit or miss but overall game is good. Just missed a hole in one at Southern Dunes...blew up the inside of the cup on the 17th hole. Ball went into the cup on a fly and rattled back out to 3 inches...never did that before. We tried to fix the hole as best we could. Had to stop inside after and let them know to have someone look at it. saz0418
Interesting round yesterday afternoon: Birdied the opening par 5, and then went double, bogey, double-- 4 over through 4. Reset, and parred the next 4, and then birdied 9 after a PW to 5 ft. Shot even on the back with one birdie on a par 5, and one bogey (3 putt from 30 feet). So, a cozy little +3, 75 that did not look likely after such a horrendous start. Just proves: Play one hole at at time, one shot at a time, and keep grinding. I played the same course the day before and my scores for the 2 days were 74, 75. But the rounds couldn't have been more different. alii1959
Today was a much better day. After the disastrous 84 yesterday, I was very concerned about how today was going to go. My play was rather flat most of the day. But, I went back to my 10-fingered grip and things are starting to get better. I knew where the ball was going...even if it was bad. Example: on 18 I hit my tee shot and lost sight of the ball immediately. So...I hit another just in case. They were about 10 ft apart. Problem seems to have been solved to some degree. On 14 my approach landed about 3ft from the hole and rolled out a few feet. I think it hit the flag stick on the bounce. Not happy about an 80, but 40/40 is consistent. And, with the ball flight back to my usual draw/hook, I am never far from my intended target. Missing fairways or greens isn't too big of a deal if you are close....and, not swimming or playing lumberjack. fixyurdivot
Men's League Member/Member event today. A 36 hole event that will conclude next Wednesday. The format for each 9 holes is; Scramble/Pinehurst/Best Ball/Two Net. Our version of the Pinehurst has both players hitting each others drive for the second shot and then choosing that best ball for the alternating shots in. We shot a 31 gross front, with 5 birdies and 4 pars . The back was going well with 2 bogies, 1 birdie, and 5 pars... then hole #18 My partner smoked his drive, and the 3w, leaving us 126 yards to the back pin on the par 5. I pulled the approach a bit left and it just fell into the short side bunker . He caught the sand shot thin, over the green and into the lake. I chipped up and we 2 putted from there. We basically used our 3.1 handicap strokes on the finishing hole . That performance has us in 7th place and a par finish would have had us in 2nd place. I feel bad about the poor approach and leaving him with that horrid bunker shot. I'm going to have nightmares and sweats seeing that approach in my dreams. Shapotomous
Last evening playoffs in the 9 hole league started....and ended for us! It was mostly my doing as the other team members were up by 2.5 points before adding in my opponents bushel of points. I didnt play awful but had 3 bad holes at 4 over and the rest were pars. Two in and out lip outs on birdie putts cost me two holes and I had a double due to a lost ball that we expected to find in the middle of the fairway. I still cant figure out where that ball may have ended up. The guy I was playing did very well, got up and down twice for par on short side shots I would bet against 9 out of 10 times. He also hit a bladed laser from about 185 that barely cleared a ravine and bounced about 30 yards onto the green running only 15' past the pin. All this while I was giving him 7 shots! It was his magical night i guess. Oh well, thats golf! I almost forgot, one of my team was giving 6 shots, had 4 birdies in 9 holes - but with those 4 birds lost one, halved 2 and won one hole !! rkj427
Managed to get out for my only round this week earlier this morning, under cloudy skies, with warm and humid conditions after we had some storms roll through the previous days. Only hope I had was that there would not be too many soggy spots or tree limbs down to impede playing. Played very well on the front 9, had a 37, with the only bogey on a hole where I missed the fairway right on a dogleg left hole, hit it too far, and then tried to hit the shot to the green from a wet lie. Came up short, naturally, but at least the results were not terrible. Back 9 started with a hooked tee shot using my driver on a hole where it may not have been the best play, and the left misses kind of kept it up on the back 9. It was getting warmer and more humid, so maybe it was something with my grip that was the cause? Ended up with a 40 on the back for a 77 total, so my recent scores have been very consistent, so that shows me that my course management when playing this track is pretty good, provided I would hit each and every shot as pictured or planned. pjaxx88
I'm in a rut, last year went backwards from 13.2 to 16.8. The spectre still looks every competition round and I'm sitting at 17.2. Last weekend my club was hosting a senior event so played elsewhere, which I don't do a lot. I played really solid in wet and windy (Scottish A typical) weather. Even took and few points off the handicap. It got me thinking, am I hurting my game by slogging around my course 3/4 times a week and not improving. I thought I might break 80 but a 7 up the last ruined that William P, MattF, cksurfdude and 3 others 6 Quote Aerojet F9 3/4 Wood Aldila NV 2KXV Blue JPX921SEL 4-PW Nippon Modus³ Tour 120 X SM8 50° F-Grind SM8 54° F-Grind SM8 58° K-Grind DStar 'Malvern' Putter AVX & -ProV1X Tour-X "Hey mister, your clubs are the wrong way round".. golfjunky79
So one of the harder courses around me in Cincinnati is called Legendary run. I shoot in the low 80's normally but expected to be lucky to break 90 from the white tees at legendary but wow my game was on 2 chip ins one for bogey and the other for birdie. Putting was good but what surprised me was 82% fairways hit. I struggle with driver but since i bought the brnr mini driver ive hit it very well but yesterday was expecially well and i ended up shooting an 83 at one of the hardest courses for me. At first i thought my buddy did the math wrong but nope i shot an 83. Very happy day. Days like this that keep you coming back. Hitem straight folks!!!! Marshy56
Played last night as possibly my last mid week round of 2024 and wow what a round, yes some blow up holes but never would I have thought that after the past few weeks that I would shoot anywhere near this. JAYER38
Gave the Red Tee challenge a go yesterday at a local course (Sleepy Hole Golf Course). This course is what I would consider a tighter course with tree lined holes or hazards that give you a drop so accuracy has always been a big player here. If you have never played from the Red Tee's it is 100% a different game. I tried my best to keep driver in hand off the Tee just to concentrate on being more accurate with it and not only counting on distance. I would say it was a normalish game with it. I don't try to "work" the golf ball just hit the same shot every time and that is something I found made the Red Tee's very tough. Most fairways missed were just off in the rough so no crazy misses but pretty much every Tee shot with Driver was leaving me under 130 to the green. Chipping/Approach cost me alot of strokes but in my defense I've been use to playing greens that bite and stop when needed and yesterday they were hard the cart path with ZERO bite or resistance so all my chips or approach shots ran long or bounced off.... I somehow never learned to play short lol. Will be back to tho!! Putting was a little higher than I would have expected in this round but I've historically never been my best on concrete like greens. Break wasn't even a thing they just rolled and rolled. The heat got to me on the back 9 (yes its my excuse but I was worn out) and it showed on the scorecard but I will 100% be trying this again to better my short game and accuracy with all clubs. I don't know if I'm counting it or not but I shot my first 87 in this round so I've officially-unofficial broke that 90 barrier! If I can do it again but better I will embrace it because I feel like I should have been 85 or lower just dumb mistakes Score: 87 (40/47) Fairways: 9 (4/5) GIR: 9 (6/3) Putts: 35 (19/16) Dweed, Rob Person, TAGolf13 and 5 others 6 2 Quote DRIVER Paradym Ai SMOKE MAX D w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 65-R 10.5* WOOD STEALTH 2 Plus 15* w/ Mitsubishi Kali Red 65-R 42" 15* HYBRID Big Bertha 19 w/ UST Recoil DART 75-S 20* IRONS TS3 Forged 4i-PW w/ True Temper Score LT 100-R WEDGES Glide Forged Pro w/ ZZ115-W 48*/52*/58* PUTTER HB SOFT 8 w/ Center Shaft 3* Check out my Tests...
