@arodrig29 Thanks. Im sure I’’ll love it and I’m so excited about getting it which is why I’m so frustrated about it being held up. The worst part is after receiving the notification last Wednesday I thought I’d have it by now but it hasn’t even shipped yet

Once you get the bags…do you have to do anything with the straps to swap what side you carry on?

I haven’t tried to switch sides on mine but I imagine it’s as simple as unbuckling and rebuckling.

@arodrig29 that Patriot bag is absolutely GORGEOUS my goodness. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Oreo bag, but after seeing @GolfSpy_BEN’s Patriot and now yours it is clear to me what my second choice would be. Great pics!

Good question, the bag that came in has the strap for a right hand carry. Meaning once you put the bag on your back the clubs sit to your right. That being said, the straps are very easy to swap. I plan on taking some in depth pics about the process.

I'm a certified gear nerd and love reading all the ins and outs regarding new equipment, technologies and apparel on the market today. I read most, if not all, of the Forum and HQ reviews about the shiny new stuff released every year. Unsurprisingly, I'm thrilled at the opportunity to test what appears to be a very nice golf bag after being lucky enough to test the Caley 01CB irons last year!

1.1 - Who am I?

I am a 32 years old geotechnical engineer from Montreal, Canada. I've been golfing on and off since my early teenage years and truly fell back into the rabbit hole following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. I now play 35+ rounds per year (between April and early November) but wish I could play even more often! 2023 was a record year during which I managed to log 52 rounds!

1.2 - What about my game?

I'm a 8-10 handicap and mightily struggle with consistency off the tee. Consequently, approach shots are my strength as I’m about equivalent to a 2-3 handicap player in this area of my game according to Shot Scope. I have what I would qualify as an average short game and average putting skills, but this is hardly relevant in the context of a golf bag test right?

1.3 - Where/how do I play?

I almost exclusively play on weekends with the occasional 9-hole round after work. For this reason, I play irrespectively of the weather: Hot, cold, wind, rain, hail, doesn't matter. If I planned on playing on a given day, I WILL play.

I walk for roughly 95% of my rounds and have been using a push-cart for the last few years. I only ride when I play courses where a cart is mandatory. I don't have a membership at any specific club and usually alternate between the five or six decent courses in my area. I also try to squeeze in one or two range sessions per week to keep my game as sharp as it can realistically be.

I used to live close to a very nice par 3 course and back then, I carried my clubs as I usually walked to the course. However, for standard 9-hole and 18-hole rounds, I haven't carried my clubs for quite some time now. It is the main reason why I went for a cart bag when I got myself a new Ogio bag back in 2022, but I must admit that I miss stand bags on occasions.

With the current stand bag test at hand, I do intend to carry my clubs as much as I can in order to fully assess the various features of the bag (and because it might also provide additional physical exercise which is something that I need more and more as years go by).

1.4 - How do I intend to test the bag?

I initially opted for the Patriot with 14-way divider, but settled on the Ronin as it was already taken for review. Now all that's left is to wait for the bag to arrive up North!

The way I see this test going is by putting its key features to use and appreciate their true impact on the comfort level and efficiency of my rounds, pure and simple.

• Are the shoulder straps comfortable?
• How spacious, protective and easily accessible are the pockets?
• Is the bag in its stand configuration stable?
• Do the dividers succeed in minimizing clanking between clubs?
• Is it waterproof?
• Is the lined water pocket efficient in keeping my drinks cool?
• What about the true usefulness of the various attachments/accessories?
• How does it look and what is the quality of the finishing/assembly?

These are all questions that will be answered and elaborated on during this test!

 

2.0 - UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I'm really curious how am all black, leather bag does in the sun. I'm a push cart walker and I don't use an umbrella so I would imagine the bag could get fairly hot. But I do love the look of these bags!

Good point! I also use a push-cart without an umbrella with my all black Ogio Fuse bag (made of nylon) and never had any issue in this area (i.e., drinks stay cool provided that I use a decent water bottle and snacks do not melt even if they’re not in a lunch box with an ice pack for example).

I did not think of it too much, but now that you mention it, leather could definitely make a difference in that aspect (think car seats in the summer for example).

I’ll keep you posted with some odd tests. Potentially a sun-baked protein bar?

Nothing screams delicious like a rock hard protein bar at the turn!

I guess I could be described as an overpacker.

As mentioned in my intro, I play no matter the conditions so if the forecast is uncertain, I do carry some extra apparel (Q-zip, windbreaker, extra pair of socks, etc.). The miscellaneous stuff that I also usually carry simply because I use my bag as a storage unit is my camera tripod (only use it at the range) and the Swingyde training aid + folding alignment sticks.

I also carry too many balls for what I need (usually 12+) and can get away with it as I usually use a push-cart but when I'll start carrying again, I'll certainly bring it down to 6 or 8.

The heaviest items in my bag are usually my drinks/water bottle. I use a 32oz rambler that keeps water cool and icy for 12+ hours despite being in the direct sun. I also like to have a 710 ml Gatorade for these hot summer days that I can fill the rambler with once it is empty.

For the test, I don't require the bag to fit all of this stuff as it is certainly not necessary to carry all of it during a round, but I am a bit concerned about the lack of full-length pockets on either side of the bag.

I'll likely weight my current bag with all of the usual stuff and make a comparison with the necessary gear that I carry with the Ghost bag. Should be interesting!

Congrats Testers!  These look like great bags and looking forward to hear your feedback.  They seem very similar to Vessel so will be interested to see if anyone has gamed one of those to compare with these.

I haven't gamed a vessel or any high end bag for that matter.   The similar to Vessel comment is interesting and when I was researching if I wanted to participate in this test there were lots of comments across various social media platforms that Vessel makes the Ghost Bags.  No confirmation or proof,  but does make you wonder.

I've wondered that myself looking at them.   there are similarities but then there are enough things that are completely different that makes me question it.  I'm pretty certain that Vessel makes all of the G/fore bags those for them so it's possible they make the ghost ones but use ghost's design instead of re-badging their own bags

Watching the UPS driver on the Follow on a live map feature.   Ghost Bag is about 1/2 a mile from my house but will probably take another 3 hours to get here
