Thick vs Standard Grips

Looking for more consistency and length in my game

Going to be trying out Jumbo grips to see if those help in any ways

Has anyone else made the switch and what are your thoughts?

Did you do Full bag or just certain clubs

I used to play with one extra wrap of tape under the grip to make it larger. I much preferred that. Now? I just ordered clubs with medium grips. Passed on the oversize large.

You might think a little more on it. Try one club. Hit it. Find out for yourself. You might find you don't like the largest. Then do all clubs. Keep it consistent.

You're my kinda guy. You got a Titleist 505 one and two iron.

To be candid.... I would rather walk a field with a good Bird Dog, than to walk a golf course with people. Only problem is, I can't walk.

What size grip do u use now? A year ago or so I tried midsize grips. Coming from a standard grip built up a few wraps I didn’t think it would be a huge difference. I tried the bigger grips on just my wedges at first. I liked the grip at first and switched the entire bag, but it only lasted for a season as I didn't see any noticeable improvement, and I felt the grip was too big causing it to sit more in my palm than my fingers.

Maybe switch one wedge, and one iron at first to see how the change effects your full swing and short game shots.

I made the full bag switch from standard grips to Midzise Velvet Plus 4's. Have loved them and feels weird not having them if I swing someone else's club. I do think it is a feel and you will either love it or hate it.

Recently a video came up where John Daley was talking about getting fit for grips being such a big deal so try a few different brands and styles to see what works. I , not sure you'll "gain" length but possibly more consistent for face control.

I find with standard size grips I have to put more grip pressure into the club.  It's way too much in my fingers and I have to realllly hold on.  Just not comfortable for me.  It's totally playable, but once I change the grips out it's like a breath of fresh air.

If your hands are on the bigger side, you should for sure consider a bigger grip.   And even if not -  it doesn't hurt to try.

You can get the Karma velvet grips for 2-3 bucks a piece.  Their jumbo grips are the same size as Golf Pride and Lamkin's midsize.  I'd recommend maybe going with a driver, 7 irons and a wedge and see what you like.

I went from standard to jumbo on just driver and wedges

Tried them out in a round and on the range

Driver dispersion went way down and i also felt i could go after it more on the course where normally im swinging 70-80%

MLM Data
Standard grips course drive I average around 113 CHS and 164 Ballspeed

Jumbo i was swinging 115 and around 168 ballspeed

On the Range Similar results with 116 Average with standard and 119 with Jumbo

Definitely need to work on feel with wedges as my distances were slightly different but thats just an adjustment

Standard grips on my irons felt insanely tiny after using Jumbos

Took the rest of my clubs to get Jumbos this morning and will update as i play more

Just started my review of the jumbo star grips.  So far, some of what @Chris King mentioned is true.

I've been slowly increasing my grip size over the past year. I started out with standard, went to midsize Lamkin crosslines, then to midsize  tour velvets with 2 extra wraps, and currently I am using MCC +4 midsize with 2 extra wraps and each time I go up I notice improvements. My hands feel better, I can hold the club a little loser and get more "flow" in my swing, and my strikes are more consistent. I have tried the JumboMax XS and LOVED the feel of them but without doing the full bag I couldn't keep adjusting my swing between the different sizes. I think at the end of this season I am going to transition to the JMX XS no taper for my full bag. I definitely prefer a lot less taper like the +4 so I can choke down if I need to.

I have used midsize grips on my irons and woods for the past 4 years and absolutely love them. I have some arthritis in my hands and the larger grips allow for less pain and better control of the club. I don't think I would ever go back to a regular grip.

More recently made the change over to Jumbomax XS tour. Immediately noticed grip pressure reduction and less pain in gripping the clubs. A big plus to me is the grip when hitting without gloves. Have noticed a slight decline in feel of impact but, also a more controlled bottom of the  swing/feel of clubface location. Love the feeling with my wedges this far.

Now if only it would go straighter.

I don't use jumbo grips but I switched to midsize a couple years ago and I will never go back to standard. I feel like I have more control with the midsize. I'm currently using the Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus4 and I love the feel of them.

To me, extra wrap grips feel great for maybe seven or eight holes,
but then feel too thick when my hands begin to swell later in the round.

That's why I stick to standard size.

They MUST be "wrap type grips," however, because I don't like wearing  a glove.
I'm a bare knuckle player, Fred Couples style!

I remember a guy on The Big Break who wore two gloves.

Midsize for me is the way to go. Less pressure in my grip frees up my forearms and wrists and just feels better to me.

I’m much happier with midsize over standard. Do you guys like larger (maybe jumbo?) for drivers? Maybe for wedges?
