Golf Saskatchewan

Rounders

Recommended Posts

I am from Alberta originally but I now reside in Saskatchewan. Not a lot of people know but Northern Saskatchewan offers some spectacular tracks. Here are a few links to some of my favorites.

Enjoy

Thanks, I will check those out. To be honest, Saskatchewan isn't the first place I think of when somebody talks golf destinations. But, it would be an interesting trip once you get all of the standard locales out of the way (Arizona, Florida, Myrtle, etc.).

Saskatchewan is absolutely loaded with great courses, and I would say that most are very affordable as well.

As mentioned above

www.elkridgeresort.com and www.waskesiugolf.com and awesome courses up North, but I think people shouldn't look past www.northernmeadows.com in the meadow lake area.

Nipawin, North Battleford, Cooke Municipal in Prince Albert are also fantastic.

I think the Katepwa 9 hole track by Regina may be one of the best 9 hole courses I have ever played.

Waskesui was Bob Hope's favorite course, and he golfed many.

Cooke in Prince Albert was Johnny Cash's favorite municiple course, and he had a cabin in the province as well.

There are more courses per capita in Saskatchewan than anywhere else in the world!

Also we have some of the best hidden 9 hole courses anywhere.  I seen Katepewa was mentioned.  I would also mention Birch Hills, and Riverhurst as some of the most beautiful 9 hole courses you can find!

Most of the courses up North are right beside a resort lake, so bring your swim trunks and fishing rod.  Which is something we have over Alberta, which has few resorts that are good to swim at in comparison.

Things may be slow to open this year, but there are some good tracks:

North:

Waskesiu: Classic Stanley Thompson design in Prince Albert National Park, been around forever, well maintained. Built over rolling terrain with elevation changes. A few 'blind' shots. http://www.waskesiugolf.com/

Elk Ridge: Just outside PA National Park. 27 holes. Great courses carved out of the forest. Plan on elevation changes, wildlife. https://www.golfelkridge.com/

Evergreen Golf: Nipawin, SK. Consistently rated among top courses in Sask. Les Furber design. http://www.evergreengolfcourse.ca/

Green Hills: inside Greenwater Lake Provincial Park. Nice track with elevation changes, wildlife. Not just a 'big stick' course - you'll need to pay attention to distances and club selection, even off the tee. Plays in an out of forest in early holes. Generally not very busy. https://www.greenhillsgolfresort.com/

Central / South

Dakota Dunes: South of Saskatoon. Excellent course. One of the newest courses in province (2004). Graham Cooke, Cooke-Carleton design. Links-style golf. Wide open and can get windy. http://www.dakotadunes.ca/

Moon Lake: Just outside Saskatoon. 27 holes. Very good. Links / dunes style. https://moonlakegolf.com/

Willows: Saskatoon. 27 holes with 3 distinct 9s. Very good - especially if you want to avoid much elevation change.  https://willowsgolf.com/Home.aspx

Legends: Warman, SK. Very new (2011). Very open and subject to wind. https://www.golfthelegends.com/

Deer Valley: Close to Regina, so busier and pricier - though still very affordable. Very good course. Some quite challenging holes. Had problems with ground shifting / slumping on a few holes, but generally well marked and easy to play around.  https://deervalleygolf.ca/

White Bear Lake: Near Moose Mountain Provincial Park and Carlyle, SK. Cut out of the forest. Very nice course and often pretty quiet / easy to get a booking. http://www.whitebeargolf.com/
