Putt in the basement and try to go to the simulator as much as I can.  So far I'm feeling pretty good this off season.  I was able to get fit for my putter and irons and have played every few weeks on the simulator.  I'm still going to be very rusty, but much better than not swinging a club for 4-6 months.

Is it weird for you to hit off the grass again? I know last year I struggled for a couple weeks just hitting off the ground instead of a mat.

I realize that I forgot the most important piece of advice for the thread on getting ready for tournaments so I'll give it here:

Buy a bunch of new erasers.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

It's definitely an adjustment for me, and I start off the season "picking" the ball.  I usually take a golf break after the season ends and start practicing indoors around February with a simulator and putting area.  It really does help get me back into "golf shape," but hitting off a mat and a level surface has its limitations.

After playing last week in Orlando, I realized I need to eliminate the Nov-Jan holiday break I've been taking...  I woke up a lot of muscles that were still "on break!"

Depends on your swing.  If you are a sweeper then it's not going to be a lot different, if you are a digger then it's going to take a while to readjust.

From that perspective you need to look at what will allow you to play better golf faster.  Having to adjust to grass from a mat, or having to start fresh after not having swung a club all winter?  Plus you get an added benefit of keeping your swing muscles in shape somewhat so you aren't so fatigued the first few rounds.

Even though I do get to play year round I still have an off-season which is usually from about December - February. The holidays and colder wetter weather get in the way from time to time. But.... I'm gearing up for the "season". In January I restarted my stretching program and today I'm waiting on a Pro/instructor to call me back about getting some instruction/lessons. I'm also going to pay a visit to my fitter in March for a new driver and fwy/hybrids.

I was hit by a truck in 2006, so the tolls that has taken on my body pretty much dictate I shut it down and rest the body after the season ends. Golf is pretty tough on my body now and I just grit my teeth and get through it during the season because I love to play so much. The left side of my body is pretty destoyed.

I walk nearly every day anyway, and do stretches. So I'm never really out of "golf shape." Hitting off mats at the golf dome made me way too steep with my swing. I actually do better not hitting all winter. Spring time became a month of un-doing what mats had done over the winter, so now I skip it. I putt balls on the Big Moss in the basement.
