What equipment are you thinking about?

My smart watch has recently died, so I'm currently weighing up my options for a replacement one that's also more golf focussed. The Garmin test last year absolutely makes that one look very tempting, but not sure if that's quite in the budget currently. The Shot Scope V5 looks quite good, and I've just gotten an email about a new Voice Caddie watch too, so I've got a bit of researching to do.

I also need a new putter stand because I might have a slight obsession and have run out of room in the current one 😂

Short hitter off the tee. Driver is the weakest part of my game. I struggle to get the ball in the air, hit a lot of line drive tee shots, currently play a 12 degree callaway epic(avg driving distance 190yds my 5i goes 180yds). wondering if I would benefit from that mini driver Taylor Made is selling. just wanna get my tee shot 210+ and in bounds, I'm not greedy.

Less expensive option is this as a driver replacement. Its long and low spinning.

Thinking of getting a new 3 wood. Its the only club I cant hit in my bag. I have a Taylormade Stealth with 15 degree loft and stiff shaft. When I first tried it out it seemed to work fine but recently Ive just lost the consistency. I have been changing my swing throughout the off season so maybe thats it? Was thinking I might need a different loft. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

I have not, I have the Stealth and love it.  Maybe consider something that is adjustable so you can play with the lofts a little bit.

Hitting a tru e 3 wood isn’t easy.  Many people go to 4 wood (16.5*) because the loft and shorter shaft make it a little easier to hit.

I absolutely love my Ping 3wood. If my driver is angry with me, as is often the case, I can go to the fairway finder & count on a straight shot nearly every time. Its also so smooth off the deck...probably my favorite club in the bag.

Love the game, try to get out a couple times a week. Been at it for about 25yrs...still waiting to get better

The 3 HL Stealth I have is very easy to hit. But I agree youre best off getting an adjustable 3, a 16.5 degree 4, or an adjustable 5

On the hunt for a few sets of iron shafts.  I have two sets of heads from Bridgestone that were given to me for builds.  Both sets belonged to my buddy that passed away and just have not gotten to how to build them yet.  Now that I am actually home full time I guess I should get working on them.  One set is the J15MB and the other set is J15CB refinished in Black Ox.

A few things currently

Driver--gaming a M5 my buddy gave me ($free.99 is the best price) with a stiff shaft, but I've just never really loved it. I have been looking at getting properly fitted for a new driver and lean towards Darkspeed or TSR but will let the clubs speak to me. Open to suggestions!

5 Wood-- I have a Stealth 2 3-wood that I can hit decent, but would love something to help fill the void between my 4-hybrid and my 3-wood. I have hit my buddies 5-wood (also M5) and loved the feel and consistency that I could hit it with. I think it would be a good addition to my bag.

Wedges--I have a 48 gap wedge in my bag that came with my 923 Mizuno set and currently game the trusty Kirkland wedges. I'd like to potentially go to a 54 and 58 setup. I never hit the 52 GW or 60 LW that come in the set and find myself using the 48 and 56 the most. I think this could help fill in the gaps in my bag.

Would love to hear some thoughts on this. I know getting fitted is the right answer, but having some direction going into a fitting could be good

i have a buddy with a lab putter, and every time he drains a putt he goes, “You need a LAB.” So when we were texting about all the tour players at the Masters who had one, I sent him this 👇

I recently got a new 3 wood and I love it. It's a Titleist TSR 2 with a Red Ventus VeloCore shaft. I think a big part of why I love it so much is because of the VeloCore shaft. It has an amazing feel and has been very reliable. It's become my favorite club in my bag as of late and I can't help but think I would benefit from getting a VeloCore shaft in my driver as well.

I currently have a very good shaft in my driver, but it hasn't resulted in the feel or consistency I was hoping it would. Long story short, my buddy who works for a golf warehouse found a Blue VeloCore driver shaft for me. He's just going to re-tip it for my Ping head and send it my way. I can't wait to put it to the test and see if it improves my game!

That it is! My wife said since this is something I’ve been wanting for a while (since we met) that we will do it no matter what(her idea).Full bag, and clubs.i think I may have her talked into letting me go to the kingdom at reynolds lake also!

I know a lot of people that used them and it’s a great experience.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted to go with so used a brand agnostic fitter but you won’t go wrong using the Kingdom.

Edit: just occurred to me, is your wife insisting the 2 of you stay at the Ritz to take advantage of their world class spa?  Or has she not mentioned that to you yet?

It's definitely time for some new irons for me. I've replaced everything else in the bag over the last year and a half. I've been staring at the takomo 101T. The only thing that sucks is not being able to see them in person. I know they've got the deal where you can just hit the 7 iron and send them back. Unfortunately, if I'm going to order a set, it's going to be a slightly custom set. Which means no returns. I've hit the P770s recently and I was flat out impressed with them. But.....that price tag is pretty out of pocket if you ask me. I play graphite shafts now and apparently they're too light(that was the pros words). So irons are happening at some point this summer. I just don't know which ones. I tried the Titleist irons, and just like the driver, I can't hit them(which is super weird).

always nice to get a new set of irons, if possible you should go to an iron fitting just for the shaft information, the chances are you can order the shaft that is right for you in the Takomo 101T's.

Currently playing a Ping G410 driver & thinking about upgrading to something newer, but I just can’t justify the price of a new driver. I’m likely going to get into a previous year (G425, SIM2, etc). Any idea how those older drivers compare to newer models?

What brand/weight graphite shafts do you presently have?  Graphite shafts come in a variety of weights.  What result is the “pro” basing his judgement on?  For $30-40  experiment with the 7i and buy heavier and see what the result is and see if it resolves the issue.

I have the standard ventus shafts in a regular flex that came with the irons. I will definitely go for a legit iron fitting before I purchase. Because being only about 3 years into golf, I'm still making swing changes. My swing coach is the one who told me my irons are too light. Since I go by strictly feel(my brain is weird) I have a hard time feeling the where the club is(we do the eyes closed thing with where do you think it's at. And then he shows me what it really looks like). I also use weight as momentum for the swing. If something is too light, it starts getting a little wonky for me. I tried a few different irons at the end of one lesson because he has tons. I was definitely more consistent with the steel shafts. Speed and path were really close between swings. My dispersion shrank significantly(I was still a little more left than I wanted to be but that's on me over drawing the ball). My speed has increased significantly since I've started. Which means I should have a stiffer shaft. I didn't know anything about clubs, fittings or anything when I started. I bought my current irons because I liked the way they looked(you can laugh at that. Looking back, I do). So, after being fitted for wedges, a 3 wood(technically it's a 4 wood because it's cranked up to 16.5) and a driver, it's irons next on the list. I'm open minded about brands because I'm not sponsored. But to me, the tacomos are some of the best looking clubs and I have yet to run across anything saying something truly bad about them. So for half price I'd be more than happy to have them in the bag. On the other side of the coin, I've hit the 770s and fell in love a little.

a couple of takeaways, I find newer golfers or athletes that move to golf at a later age like to "feel" where the clubhead is, that is normal. Liking the way the clubs look is a really important thing, lots of options so take your time, my process was, 1-get fitted, 2- see how the irons look at address, 3- be patient with them.

number 3 caught me a bit off guard, after my fitting I thought I would walk right onto the course and love the irons, it actually took me 6 weeks to get the "kick point" correct for my swing and speed. I really had to be patient but happy I was as I trust the combination of shaft and head now so it is all go...

Enjoy the process...

I think looks are really important.  Last year I took a couple lessons from my prospective fitter then committed to the fitting as he is brand agnostic and has all the major brands fitting kits.  He’s older like me (but plays to a 1.5 index) and one of his common sayings is we play with our eyes.  How things appear matter.

One of the clubs I bought was a 4 wood.  It’s a Ping G430 Max 5 head delofted to 17* with a 3w shaft.

While I play strictly by feel when I’m playing, numbers have always been important to me.  So during the fitting we looked closely at various numbers with spin being at the top of the list.  For my irons, it came down to Callaway STMax vs Mizuno JPX 923 HM.   They both looked good at setup and both felt great on contact.  Both had the same carry.  But for the 7i, the JPX spin was around 5200, the Callaway was 4300, so Mizuno was the winner.

I've been on a practice grind recently. I've been thinking about buying a putting mirror training aid. Tried someone else's and it seemed decent but can't tell if it really establishes good habits or just has too much going on. Anyone have a putting training aid that you like? Or has the mirror type of aid yielded good results? I wouldn't even be sure exactly which to get if anyone has recommendations!

Thinking about getting a hot 3 wood, most likely the AI Smoke TD. From what I’ve seen it seems to have just enough forgiveness to match the ball  speed potential.
Anyone had a chance to swing one of these?

Putting mirrors are great for working on consistent setup.   I would suggest getting one big enough to see both eyes and shoulders.

As for other training aids,  it would depend on what you want to work on.   I am a fan of gates for startline and making sure you get center contact on the putter.   I love the ExPutt simulator for distance control.

My biggest "want" at the moment is a 3 Wood.  I have a 3 Hybrid (TM 19deg Rescue), but I struggle a fair amount with it. Looking at the TM and a few others too. Then have to get it through the appropriations committee! 😉
