Gave him a real basic set of clubs.About 8 dozen used but good golf balls.I even found him a membership at an 18 hole executive course in always great condition for $250 a year.Cant think of too many sports for under $250 for the whole season. He can't complain that much now

That was nice!

Actually my last intern was on a curling team. He almost made the Olympics. We spent a few conversations going through what the short is. There is a lot going on. With that being said, curling and aplethera of other"sports" might better be suited for regional or local consumption. How was that for a politician response?

Sure, why not include the event. We could start the discussion on should sports that are judged based on subjective criteria be included.

If there's a judge there is no sport, it's just an event. I love the ski jumping, but why judge it? Who ever jumps the farthest wins, but no it has to look pretty too. Curling no judge, clear winner=sport.

Say you could get a certain percentage off a Ford product, but you are a Cadillac fan. Would the savings of said percentage be worth sacrificing what you like? The savings would be substantial.

I have almost the same dilemma. Eying the Acura Mdx but the Honda Pilot (which the Mdx is based off of) is cheaper. So what do I do? Look at the Audi Q7😂🤣😂. But seriously, do you think you can live with not getting what you want and will there always be lingering doubt? Then get what you want. Of course with the savings, you could probably put that towards golf equipment 😁 what two products are you looking at?

I couldn't agree with this more.  If it requires a judge, it isn't a sport!

Say you could nearly get 2 of these “Fords” for the price of the “Cadillac”, but they are the base models. The Cadillac is fully loaded, with technology, and the Ford has crank windows?

Crank windows? I guess I've gotten used to some creature comforts. If it's financially viable, get your caddy. Like I tell my wife, While discounts are great, discounts on stuff you don't want or need is a waste of money...

sounds a lot like bowling.... fun to do; not so fun to watch.

I do think it should be an Olympic sport due to the fact that it is international.  I think it's pretty popular in Canada, Norway, etc.... not so much in the U.S.

....same argument could be made for golf in the summer Olympics.  there are those that don't find it fun to watch... not sure what's wrong with those people, but they're out there.

Flip side. I used to work with a guy that didn't liked playing but LOVED watching golf. It's riveting stuff if you've got someone to root for.

That being said, I still take some awesome snoozes during events. It's the hybrid infomercials that wake me up.

I would be concerned that the judging would be unduly swayed by the costumes (or lack thereof) although that might make for interesting television!!!

Joking aside, at one of the ice rinks where I play adult league ice hockey there is a "curling pavilion"  - it is a nice, heated and carpeted area, with a bar and pizza oven, as well as 6 sheets of ice for curling.  I did not know it, but apparently the ice is not "smooth" like hockey or figure skating ice, but rather bumpy, which allows the brooms and scrapers to shape the direction of the "stone."  Actually an interesting thing to watch while waiting for our late ice time - or at least better than standing out in the cold waiting for that ice.

When I was in high school I was on the school curling team and also worked at the rink preparing and cleaning the ice. The ice is pebbled with water before games to give the rocks a surface to run on. Without the pebble the rocks go nowhere, too much friction. At the end of the season we would play hockey for a few hours before the ice plant was shut down. It was amazing ice to skate on, no ruts or gouges, always a fun day.

I guess I'm in the minority on curling. I love it! It's a great sport you can watch even with the sound off.

I agree with you guys on ski jumping. It should be furthest distance only. Best form generally makes you fly further anyway.

fbatCvH.gif

But the one I really hate, is moguls. THAT is a stupid event where they bust their knees up and do tricks with stupid names for a speed/judged combined score that makes no sense. If you want to make it more interesting, add some extra crap they have to navigate like ski trials and make it all about speed.

While I know that the winter Olympics are being televised, I very much am glad that the pro golf tours likewise are televised.   I prefer to watch the golf because it reminds me that spring is coming and I once more will be on the course.   The winter Olympics just reminds me how atypically cold our winter has been.   Additionally, I never participated in the events and sports of winter.   It would have required snow and ice and that I would be outside in it.   That wasn't going to happen.   However, with the summer Olympics, during my youth, I was known to actually have run on occasions.

Good point!  It's hard to watch snowboarding in snow and subzero temperatures while looking out the window at our own subzero temperatures.

I have had "cabin fever" before but I can't remember a time when we didn't have a pleasant snap through winter enabling a few pleasurable outside days to tie me over to spring.  In SWVA, we set a record from late December to late January of nearly 400 consecutive hours of below-freezing temperatures.  We just don't typically see this kind of prolonged biter cold.

Good thing you didn't watch the ATT on Sunday, even my wife who loves watching golf complained how slow it was. I can't believe these guys; DJ, JS, etc come back year or year to this proam event. I believe one guy was 56 over. Yikes.
