A Golf Pro needs our help

Recommended Posts

I thought I might reach out to members and ask for some help for a friend.

My instructor is in need of help. And a job. He's had a stretch of bad luck to say the least. This guy is 53 years old and a PGA Professional. He's got a long resume of professional playing since his early years. Over the past few years since turning 50 he's been trying off and on to make it onto the Champions Tour. I believe he did compete in a couple of events. It's a difficult task just making it past the qualifiers. This past summer he decided to accept a paid position with a city in the Dallas area to be their Director of Instruction. This city is going to build a new modern clubhouse and a training-instruction facility also. Their golf course is outstanding. For some reason the city reneged on the agreement and the job didn't get off the ground leaving my friend in the lurch. He had sold his house and moved only for this position. There's a lot of unanswered questions but I didn't feel the need to drill him on his situation. It is what it is. Additionally, he's recently injured his left wrist and is unable to play currently. He will get this fixed after first of the year. My friend has reached out to numerous golf professionals to spread the word and network but hasn't found anything yet.

My friend is able to relocate most anywhere in the country depending on a particular offer. Below I've attached and article from some years ago that's very interesting. If any of you guys know of a club or course that might be in need of a top notch PGA Pro for either Head Pro, Director of Golf, or Director of Instruction positions let me know. In my opinion he's a class act; stand up type of guy. Like many of us have probably experienced at some point in our life things happen that can get a man down. And sometimes we need to reach out to our friends and ask for a little help.

Let me know if you have any leads to follow.

Thanks in advance for reading this.

Sorry I cannot offer any direct connections .. your friend does seem to be a good guy!

One suggestion to pass on, though - I see he is on LinkedIn, but his profile is quite cursory .... he might expand / complete that and try to "Connect" with not just other golf pros on there ... could perhaps maybe possibly lead to some sort of intro somewhere..........

Nice of you to try and help. As someone mentioned it's all about networking and getting your name out there. LinkedIn is certainly a way, I'd also focus on all aspects of the golf industry if I were him - it creates a lot more opportunities - for instance golf club manufacturers, course designers, golf club consultants, club fitters etc.

Plaid. First off I hate to hear this. It's a horrible situation.

Our Head Pro position just opened up yesterday (we are near Baltimore, MD) I'm not sure we could afford him based on his resume. But if you want to pass my email on to him for him to get in touch with us. I'll definitely get his info to our GM and let them take it from there.

I'll pm you the email.

Can you tell me name of the club? I'll try a PM to you.

Thanks for the help.
