Mr. 82
If money is no object I probably trade on my G series irons and replace them with the i210 irons. I have the g400 4 crossover, an i200 PW, and the G700 UW and SW, so I have a mixed Ping bag. So all that's left for me to "replace" are the 5-9 irons. I'd honestly have to test them out between the i500 and i210, but I have a feeling I'd settle on the i210, based on how much I love my i200 PW. RickyBobby_PR
I get what your both laying down. I will say some of the online reviews I've seen by the big names, all lament the same thing, I didn't know until recently that a good gauge is 1,000 rpm x the iron number. So a 6 iron should have roughly 6,000 rpm of backspin. I know these may be old school thoughts, as some of the testing of new clubs (not just PING, but the TM 790, Titleist AP1 and AP3 etc show some spins in the 4500 to 5000 range. I only have recent experience.with my P790's but I have hit a few shots recently with a 7 iron that were struck very well, that didn't hold the green. Now some of these were last week, where we are going on over 3 weeks without a drop of rain. All that said, seeing something like the I210 that has more traditional lofts does seem kind of intriguing. That is assuming I can resist the urge for the Power Specs..... Yeah that's a little old school thinking but still somewhat relevant in that maybe going 1000 less is still probably going to work. Something imo to look at these days is the launch angle, peak height and descent angle. My 5 and below stop on a dime on the greens. Not sure if I'd want to give that up. I don't have many 3 irons into the green but I'd bet they'd stop too. I mean I stopped a 3 wood on the green on Friday. Too much spin? I love it. Probably why I hit my irons shorter, but the object is to stop the ball as close to the hole as possible right? I heard those interviews as well and that's what jogged the memory about it from past info. For someone who can use a little extra spin I haven't seen any issues with stopping power in some lower spin combos I've tested in irons and numbers on some driver combos have been decent as well. Some of it's going to be player dependent too on how they deliver the club. Might have to do custom lofts to get the gap correct between the 7 and 8 iron. I don't think custom lofts are going to cover it. The clubs seem to be about 10 yards apart in the tests I've seen so the gap between the i500 7 iron and the i210 8 iron could be as much as 25 yards. You'd be better off going with an i210 7 iron and adjusting the loft down slightly.

Jon Brittan
Great point and my main concern building a mixed set. Would you go 1/2 club strong in the 7 to get the proper gap to a 6? I believe they are offering both the i210 and the i500 in "Normal", "Power" and "Classic" lofts. Best thing would be to work with a club-fitter. Maybe simply going with "Normal" i210s and "Classic" i500s would be sufficient, giving you the "boost" of the i500 head tech but with a weaker loft bringing the range in spec with the i210. You'd only really be able to gap properly with a launch monitor and some testing though. Self taught golfer trying hard to improve his game. Started playing early summer 2016.
