tony@CIC
TonyI was “fit” with a senior shaft with my Ping G driver and 400 irons. Last fall at a different fitter they had me in a regular shaft (Mizuno & Rogue) and I did pick up carry. My driver swing speed mid 80’s. Not sure what was going on but I will be going after new driver & irons this summer, probably regular shafts .Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpyRick It will be interesting to see what the fitter pulls out of his bag. I took my GBB driver that I changed to a regular shaft last night to play 9 and got about the same distance. Popular Post PING Apologist #9
Straight to the range again tonight with different conditions out there; 10-mph wind direct into us all evening. I decided to play around with the loft settings a bit after my normal up-the-bag warm-up. What I didn't report last night was for the whole session, I was set at -1 putting it at 9.5*. I started there for a few shots tonight and then went to -1.5 (9*) with "meh" results. Took it completely the other way to +1.5 (12*) and started getting some balloons. Backed off to +1 (11.5*) with similar results. Tried "neutral" at 10.5* with ok results, but back at 9.5* seems to awaken the beast. No bombs past 245 into the wind, but I continued to let 'em rip with many hits in the sweet spot. 9.5* is the setting for me. Also, my little launch monitor shows ball speed (not clubhead speed darn it), but my average ball speed with my new grip & hip flip is a much improved average of 139-mph. That roughly equates to around an average swing speed of around 95-mph if I read things right. Much better than the mid 80's I saw during fitting with a crap swing. More to come. After baseball tomorrow in the morning, I will be golfing in the afternoon with my scramble group at Quail Hollow in Boise. This course is one of more challenging courses in the area with lots of elevation changes and blind shots that are very difficult to tackle. I hope to make some good impressions with this baby! Popular Post null
Round Recap - April 25th Played 18 at one of my home courses and really was impressed again with the G410. I had a big gym session the day before and wasn't originally supposed to play, but showed up at the course early wondering if they had any spots for a single and they actually said I could go out in the first group. This was great - other than the fact that I was sore and tight and had no chance to warm up! What transpired where some no so great swings. I really struggled to find the center of the club face; bad for a round of golf, but good for a driver review! The G410 really impressed me. Because I was so stiff, I found myself pulling off the ball a lot, leading to a lot of strikes low on the face. I think my playing partners were getting tired of me reacting unfavorably to a low on the face drive, only to have the ball still go well past their drives. I saw some great ball speed retention on low strikes during my club champion fitting, and those findings translate to the course. Yes, the ball comes out lower and with a little more spin due to the gear effect, but it is still moving at fantastic speeds and not really hurting me. How little did it hurt me? I shot my best round of the year with a +2 74. Granted I scored well because I scrambled and putted well, but even with poor swings, the G410 never had me completely out of position (heck, I played the same ball for 18 holes). Range Recap - April 28th & 29th Good news! I found a spot on the range where I can hit driver without costing my range owners golf balls! Played around with the settings quite a bit to see how It performed with the hosel setting in the open position (lofted down, but face not returned to square at address) with the neutral weight and I saw some really nice push draws. Very similar flight to the standard hosel setting with the weight in fade. I am not sure which setting I will stick with yet, but I do kind of like setting the club down and having it sit slightly open - gives me some nice confidence at address. My strike pattern definitely shows to be middle to middle/toe, so I want to find a setup that gets the most out of that strike pattern. Ian from TXG has also mentioned that moving weights can alter strike location. TXG is going to be doing a video soon on the different adjustments one can make with a driver and how they play into face angle and strike location. Will be tuned into that one for sure so that I can optimize my G410 accordingly. For my next round I am going to go with the open face and neutral weight to see how things go. The results on the range are promising, so I hope they translate to the course. As always, please fire away with any questions you may have! I had an "OK" front nine, but hole #1 cost me 2 balls right off the bat. Didn't hit driver until #3 where I pounded it way down the hill and my normal fade went straight (wind didn't assist either) so I landed on the hillside with a tough second shot that ruined that hole too. Driver was a monster all day, the problem was I had zero (I mean none) FIR all day with it, so my accuracy with it needs to be addressed ASAP-obviously. Distance without accuracy is a bit sh** so I was disappointed to say the least, especially when I was having a decent ball-striking day with my irons & wedges... Thanks for the report and feedback. Would be interesting to see an on course comparison between your current driver and the test driver. Hit both on driver holes. Switch between which you hit 1st on each hole. It won't be perfectly scientific, but it might indicate if the accuracy is a swing/aim influence or a club/spin influence. Looking forward to more feedback on the driver. fixyurdivot
Well heck. I finally finished up some pressing business here in MT, following our return from Yuma, and had plans to see how Driver X performs at altitude (we're a mile high +). On my way back from Dillon Thursday, I started to get that fatigued, sinking feeling and by Friday morning had a full blown cold. Been a lounge lizard for the past 3 days (thank God for The Golf Channel). I'm hoping later this week I can get 9 or 18 in at Madison Meadows. After playing 3x/week for 5 months, I haven't swung a club for over a month. Maybe we should move to AZ full time and "sunbird" to MT? I'm trying spy's, I'm trying. tony@CIC 1 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Official Review)

Keep in mind Stage two's will be due in two to three weeks. That timeframe is going to work for me. My new shaft should be in next week. In the meantime I'm playing the original and it's pretty nice!
