True, but Kyle uses a 48" driver w/ 3-4.5 degrees of loft (https://krankgolf.com/pros/kyle-berkshire/) whereas Finau did this with a more standard length driver and at least twice as much loft (most likely). I'm sure Kyle could still blast it past Tony, but considering that Tony is not a professional long driver I'd call it a wash (the potential is certainly there). BTW, watched this on Insta when he first posted it. Pretty incredible to think that the biggest difference between these swings and his normal swing is that he actually takes the club all the way back. Based on the results he got in the video, I can only assume he shortened his swing to control spin. Yeah, that's why I shortened my backswing too. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
FrogginBullfish Posted September 11, 2019 Author Posted September 11, 2019 Yeah he's mentioned in the past that his short swing is much more accurate and easier to control for him. When you're already one of the longest hitters on tour, accuracy starts to pay dividends. Only Cam Champ is really breaking that on any consistent basis.Don’t disagree two different approaches to the swing. Long drive is always all out, PGA tour is more controlled. Finau is 12th in average ball speed on tour so I would bet there are other PGA tour players besides Champ that could break 200 if the sole purpose is ball speed. Not downplaying the 200 number, but I would bet it is achievable by a few on Tour. russtopherb Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I followed Tony for a few holes at TPC Boston. The sound the ball makes coming off of his clubface is just jaw dropping in person.
