null
The appeal for Rypstick for me is that it’s Much more convenient than Super speed, that’s for sure. I gave away my super speed to a buddy last fall. This one stick now replaces all 3 super sticks AND the counter balanced super speed stick you can buy as an extra. So it’s basically 4 sticks in one. Much easier to keep in my bag without taking up too much room I will be doing the speed training without a speed radar, but my driver swing was recently clocked at 112mph so that will be my baseline. null
Rypstick is $189 Base SuperSpeed set $199 Super Speed C $99 So to get the same functionality of the Rypstick, you’d have to spend $298 on the various super speed sticks. And even then, the Counterbalanced super speed stick is locked into one weight while the Rypstick allows you to use the counterbalance weight with any combination of head weights cksurfdude, fixyurdivot, TR1PTIK and 1 other

Luke was quick to identify my early extension and goat humping club path into the ball is simply too steep due to hand action and the fact that I’m sliding more than posting up on that lead leg I am going to be starting with the Goat Jumping and Casting videos in my training to better my mechanics and then work in more of the speed training exercises to build speed. edingc
@jlukes's posts got me reading more about the Rypstick, and there is now one on its way! Looking forward to adding some thoughts to this thread. I feel like I've stalled out with my SuperSpeed training with my DIY sticks. I'm really excited about the included consultations they offer. In fairness to my SuperSpeed training, I've been less than consistent with it and kind of broke off protocol for the past few months. I'm tired of it, and looking through the Rypstick protocols there are some new things to try to squeeze out more speed. TGrimmius
Thanks for posting this @jlukes. I'm meeting with Luke in person next Tuesday for a full speed analysis. His latest video with Cordie Walker from the Golf Science Lab podcast has me very curious what speed I "should" be swinging the driver vs. the speed I'm currently swinging. Stay tuned, I will post some comments after my session. Keep up the good work! null, cksurfdude and IndyBonzo
edingc
My Rypstick came Friday. First impressions are very positive. The build quality is excellent and it feels very good in the hands. TGrimmius
My session with Luke yesterday was great! Discussed swing mechanics, speed leaks, and opportunities for improvement. After going through the four tests to estimate max speed (grip strength, seated medicine ball throw, prone sit-up medicine ball throw, vertical jump), I have a lot of room for improvement! Club path swing mechanics weren’t an issue, but getting my hips to turn and lower body to fire is. I tested at the end of the chart for physical ability (oh good for me) but I’m not optimizing my ability. My normal cruising driver swing speed is 105 and test estimates show I could/should reach 128, with a cruising speed on course of 115-117. Lots of work to do! Luke put me through a few different mechanics to increase speed immediately and was able to see 5-7 improvement without sacrificing accuracy. I purchased a RypStick and plan to start with Fast Track Level 2 protocols. Luke estimated I should see another 5-7 improvement within 6 weeks putting me comfortably at 115-120 on the course. That’s +15-25 yards if I’m able to stay diligent in my training. Awesome!!! If you don’t have the ability to visit Luke in-person, give his online option a try. He knows his stuff and is passionate about helping people improve. edingc and IndyBonzo
null
I had my fitness assessment with Sarah yesterday and it went very well. We had a zoom call and she had me perform about a dozen different movements ranging from shoulder and hip turns to squats and arm/wrist rotations. Sarah watch and evaluated every movement and committed to giving me a full writeup in the next few days with some recommended exercises to help in my weaker areas. The initial feedback is that my physical status is good, but there can be some motor learning to help me gain better hip and upper body separation. Sarah will be providing me with some exercises to enhance this area. Looking forward to getting the full writeup in the next day or two. In terms of the Rypstick itself, it is fantastic - I absolutely love just having one stick. It is quick and easy to put weights in and out. The drills are nothing crazy new for those that have done Speed Stick training before - a lot of the same concepts. Just 10 minutes every other day is a piece of cake. cksurfdude and IndyBonzo

Just 10 minutes every other day is a piece of cake. Agreed. I was surprised how easily swapping the weights fit into the routine. Two things I noticed on my first go around Sunday evening, however: It's possible to unscrew the retainer that holds the weights in if you turn it counter-clockwise too much. Not a big deal, just something I noticed. I will be sure to only turn it enough to remove the weights and then put it back. The grip started to slightly work its way off the shaft. I didn't notice until the end of the workout, when I tapped it against the ground hard and got it to slide back down some. I'll also have to watch out for this. I doubt the tape will spontaneously fail and cause a flying object to happen, but perhaps I'll have to remove the grip and re-tape/re-grip. I got my swing analysis back this afternoon. A very nice add-on to the price of the stick. Luke sent back about a two-minute analysis of my swing video and picked up on a lot of stuff that I've been working on solo and with my instructor. He liked how much coil I get out of my shoulders, but wanted to see more hip rotation in the backswing and my right shoulder working down more on the downswing. Overall he thought my swing looked solid and said working on hip rotation would be the best "quick fix" for a few more MPH of speed. For reference, my last time out with my Flightscope Mevo I bounced between 108-112 MPH with the driver. I haven't been on Trackman with a driver in a while. During my last lesson after working on more hip turn, I was able to get up to 90 MPH with a 9 iron on TM. Realistically, I'm shooting to sustain 165 MPH ball speeds with the driver, which I occasionally see right now but with no regularity. @jlukes How long did the fitness analysis take? null
I received my fitness assessment from Sarah. The big focus is on rotating my upper body independent of my lower body. Per Sarah, a lack of being able to move my upper and lower body independently can lead to "excessive lateral sway during the backswing, loss of trunk posture during the backswing, and faulty swing planes. Plus, it can cause your hips to outrace your trunk during the downswing and cause you to come out of your posture." Mind you - she hasn't seen my swing, but these are EXACTLY my faults. Her workout recommendations for me are below: Quote Continue to work on pelvic rotations, this is when I had you keep your upper body still and your lower body rotation around your hips. Work on pelvic tilts as well, this will help dissociate the upper from the lower body! Other stretches I’d continue to implement are hamstring, hip flexor, and your glutes! This will all help loosen up those hips! To strengthen your lower body, of course squats and deadlifts. If you have access to a wall ball I’d also add in slam balls and rotational wall balls! This will help with strength but also rotation! Really cool to get some direction like this, and it's great that she was able to associate some of my physical/motor limitations with my main swing faults without even seeing my swing! Any experience/thoughts on that? I do not believe either Mevo or Mevo+ will work without a ball. I have the blue/grey Swing Speed Radar that used to be recommended by the SuperSpeed folks for my speed stick training. I'm on my second screen (I smashed my first one and the company sent me a replacement LCD panel), but it works well for its purpose. It's probably not the most accurate, but consistent enough that you start to see patterns in your training. I have the regular Mevo for range time and it works pretty well. I think in the latest application update a few weeks ago they tweaked something with speed calculations. They seem much more accurate now, previously I felt they were a little inflated. It would routinely report relatively low smash factors with driver even on good strikes. Now the smash calculations on good strikes are better (1.48+) but that means my club head speed is not as high as previously reported. Yesterday over 10 shots I averaged 107 MPH with a ball speed of 159 MPH. That's not far off. On course this morning I had five drives total between 270-280 yards according to Arccos. The Rypstick is due to arrive tomorrow, but I’ve already gotten my swing analysis back (I’ll be working on the casting drill as well as protocol one) and have exchanged emails with Sarah about setting up the fitness evaluation. Ive known I let my left arm break/bend for years. I always thought it was just an engrained bad habit. Luke says it’s a strength issue, so I’m anxious to see what they come up with for me. Im not going to sink additional money into a second radar, I’ll just make the Mevo+ work by taking some baselines every week, not during the practice. I’ll be starting out at 90mph driver speed, and see where we go. edingc 1 Quote Walking ahead of my BagBoy QuadXL w Alphard eWheels Driver: Callaway Mavrik SubZero 9* Neutral w stock Evenflow Riptide R flex shaft 3W Titelist TS2 15* Draw w Tensei Blue R flex 3H, 4H Cobra One Length F9 Speedback hybrids (1”short) w Fujikura Atmos R flex shaft 5I-GW Cobra Forged TEC Black One Length (1”short, 2* flat) KBS 90 R flex shafts 56, 60 Cobra King MIM One Length Black (1” short) KBS HiRev2.0 125 S flex shafts ER7 or Scotty Futura X - 35” OnCore Elixr (lemon or lime)

Not stressing myself to get certain gains. Only using it two or 3 times a week and then as a warm up at the range and before I tee off edingc

WaffleHouseTour
Rypstick arrived Tuesday (yesterday) and I did my first set of Protocol One and the Casting Protocol. Did my fitness assessment Wednesday (tonight). Sarah very good about arranging a time for the zoom call - 8:15 this evening to work around my crazy work schedule. It would appear it is a TPI driven assessment and plan. I'd had one a looong time ago and we were doing some of the same tests - only via video. I travel all the time, so don't want to be tied to a weights etc, and she said she'd take that into account, though suggested some resistance bands should fit in my suitcase (true). We settled on 3x a week for 30-45 minutes. I figure I can alternate days with the Rypstick. To make it fit in my schedule I'll be cutting back on my elliptical time. We talked about other exercises I do, what physical limitations I may have (torn meniscus etc). We finished up the assessment and she said she'd have my plan back to me by end of Friday. I'm going to sign up for their 3 month fitness plan. I've invested $50 a month in worse things to improve my golf game. I took up yoga on my own to improve my mobility and flexibility for golf - might as well do some sort of fitness plan that is golf specific. I'm anxious to see what she puts together. I just finished workout No. 8 of 12 in the first phase yesterday. Like @jlukes I'm less concerned about speed increases at this current moment and more shooting to maintain what I already have. A few rounds ago I had three drives of 285+ so it seems to be doing the job, so far. It has been very nice to consolidate the three sticks into one, and I really like the volume of the Rypstick protocols so far. It's enough volume to be a workout, but not so much that I won't want to continue it as I get further into summertime. I basically quit on SuperSpeed once I got to the third protocols. I couldn't keep up the volume without being completely exhausted. No weights/one weight/two weights seem to correspond pretty well to the green/blue/red SuperSpeed clubs in regards to the numbers I see on the radar. I seem to be a little bit faster with the Rypstick but that could just be the radar picking up different points on different sticks. I haven't actually weighed the Rypstick to compare, I should do that though. I still haven't scheduled my fitness assessment, I am going to make a point to do that soon.
