I  have  puttview, golflogix and strackline. I find strackline to be the best. If I am correct they a can a tually make your course

Check em out.  I use them all the time with my shotscope watch.

Recreational round with buddies on home course - not needed.

Competitive round - especially on a rarely/never played course - absolutely.

Guest at a high end course? - get a yardage book.  If you get the opportunity to play a course that's difficult to get access, do yourself a favor and buy the yardage book. Or at least buy the guide book sold at the course. Don;t sq

I use them at courses that I haven't played much and no GPS on the carts. Just used one in the scramble tourney I played in last weekend. It was pretty basic, but gave enough information for tee shots and clearing bunkers. Green portion was lackluster.

Home course, I don't use them but have one with notes in it.

I cheaped out and just drew up hole diagrams using the measure distance feature on google maps.  Not super accurate but then neither is my game.

No yardage books, but this season I'm starting a yardage "notebook" of sorts.

Gonna schedule some sim time to get my club averages, have that as the first page of the book, then course management notes for the local courses I play after that. I use a Garmin S70 when I play, so that helps with overall view, shot tracking, and greens.

Over the winter I bought the PuttView Books for my home courses (two 18s). I did it for the green maps and the yardages off the tee when I'm playing tees I don't normally play. It's still too early to tell how much I'll benefit from them, but I can already tell you that just browsing them has helped.

TaylorMade woods, Callaway irons and wedges, and an Odyssey putter

@GolfSpy MPR I think you’ll like the PuttView book. I have one for my home course and then pick them up if I’m playing a new course where I’d like to familiarize myself with the layout ahead of time. It took me a bit to figure out distances at first because of the way they reference tee boxes, but all good now.

I also have a table that’s  printed on “post it” type paper which shows my carry and total distance for each club along with my standard pitch and chip shot information. I stick it to my book and like that I can easily remove it if my distances change, etc

Just a suggestion. Track your carry and total distances for each club. I’ve found the added information helpful for approach shots protected by sand traps or water .

Great suggestion! I'll make sure to add that to the book!

My club and a few others I play frequently are lucky enough to have yardage books through PuttView. I love them and use them every round I play there. I have a lot of notes and reminders on each hole. I feel it helps. Best of luck to you!

This.  Can't tell you how many seasons I have started with the resolution to do this and don't follow through for more than a couple rounds.

I believe Strackaline actually goes to the course and uses lasers to map the greens, in what I believe would result in a more accurate book.

I have a GolfLogix book for my course and it's OK but I don't know how they arrive at their green directions and slopes because I'm certain they've never been to my course. Do they and Putt View develop the heat maps and slopes from satellite imagery?

Another website suggests that PuttView also surveys courses which would explain why some courses are “yardage only”.  That said, our course reworked a number of greens and tee boxes late last year. So it would be nice for the companies to say what year they collected their data.

I've got a couple of yardage books I purchased from PuttView.  The biggest benefits I get from them are:

1) On approaches, I can use the book to get an idea of how the green slopes based on pin location.  They're able to help me identify areas that I can use to my advantage to get closer to the pin, and areas to avoid.

2) On the greens, I they help me identify hidden or subtle nuances to breaks. I can generally read most greens pretty well, but if I'm ever between reads, the book is the tiebreaker.

They are very handy in competition when scopes with slope adjustment are banned, and they are detailed enough to give you specific yardages to key targets around the course.  Plus, they help me focus a bit more on the process without taking too much time to make a shot.

I found the yardage books make a great gift for a golfer that typically has everything!

I had a Club OnCore membership last year and PuttView is one of their partners.  They offered 50% off for books.  So, I bought my golf friend who has just about everything one for his home course and a leather cover off eBay.  I figured he could either use it or keep it on his desk as a personal memento.  Luckily, he didn't have one and cherished it.  I liked it so much; I bought a set for my home course.
