Good morning everyone. Been a slow week so far which was much needed. Took my wife to dinner last night to celebrate her 2nd sober anniversary. It wasn’t an addiction issue, just something she wanted to do for personal reasons and has been very happy with the decision. For those interested, take a peek at the MGS Wild Horse thread if you might be keen on joining some fellow spies in July 2025. It was a good time with four of us and looking to make it 8+ next year. The worst thing I have is the tendinosis, which means that the tendons have been inflamed for long enough that they've sort of remodeled themselves, and not in a good way. Since I initially injured the shoulder like 30 years ago, and it's hurt to reach overhead ever since, that makes perfect sense (no, I didn't go to the doctor when I first injured it). I've done most of the stuff they recommend for tendinosis in the past year (PT, anti-inflammatories, rest, cortisone injections, etc.). I've maintained good range of motion in the shoulder, although it hurts (as a former marathon runner, I know all about playing through pain), which is why I can play golf with it. Surgery is a last-ditch option. I don't think I'm there yet. I think we can continue to kick the can down the road with more injections, and let it rest over the winter. But we'll see what he says; I requested an appointment for next week. If the next injection doesn't help, I may pull the surgical trigger. It hurts to lie on either side, more so on the affected side, but lying on the other side also hurts when gravity pulls that arm down, and I'm not a back sleeper or face-down. As you can imagine, that has completely screwed up my sleep.

Good (late) morning everyone.

Sitting here pondering a looming offseason.  I know it's early and there's still some golf to be played, but offseason is right around the corner and as usual I'm pondering my plans and goals. 2024 did not go how I hoped so I'm trying to look back at where I went wrong and chart a path for the future.

Good morning spies! The Wild Bunch game yesterday was different. We are on the community's executive course because the big course is being overseeded for the winter. 18 holes, par 62. Lots of  big sycamore trees guarding the houses on the right sides of the fairways. 

We played 3 man teams in a 6 hole stand alone - scramble format. The 18 holes were broken into 6 hole segments where one player plays alone for a net score, the other two play for a scramble score. Add the two together and that is your total score for the game. The stand alone (net score) player shifts to a different player every six holes. 

Good grief you would have thought I was trying to explain the calculus equation for angular momentum and why the ball sometimes spins out of the cup faster than it goes in. One of my team mates finally got the scoring after 5 holes the other.... Well after 15 holes we simply told him don't bother we wont use his card to turn in for the money part of the game. 

I am running the game tomorrow and we will try a modified Chapman. I am not going to try to explain the alternating shot into the hole section. Getting these guys to hit a ball that is not the one they hit off the tee will be like getting a politician to answer a direct question. You know they hear what you have said there is just a disconnect between what they hear and what they want to say.

Still thankful in Florida I can avoid the concept of an offseason. Do a lot of you guys have indoor simulators or what do you work on?

Yeah, I had to learn to sleep with my hurt arm resting on that same side. Balance becomes an issue. When my wife moved wrong my arm slid off and I was awake, wide awake.

Happy Tuesday & almost morning.  We had an early morning Tee Time this morning.  Birdied 1st hole but played poorly because still a bit sore from yesterday’s outdoor work.  It was warm and humid not ideal but that’s FL.  
Roads are getting busy with a lot of out of state plates so the Birds are arriving.  
Everyone have a great rest of the day.

I’ll probably be a late tomorrow morning have a 7:15 physical therapy appt.

Good Tuesday Afternoon Spies! 

Late post, walked 18 holes this morning, first time in over 10 days.  Felt good to be back on the course. It was warm this morning upper 70's.  Then headed to dentist appt, which I got to use my Medicare Supplement card for the first time! LOL

Have a Great time in Rome @Northern Monkey, such a GREAT City!

At my last newspaper job in SE Texas, the boss had come to Texas from Clearwater FL. He said every spring in Clearwater they posted a photographer on a highway overpass in April or so to get a shot of all the Ontario/Quebec plates headed north for the spring.

Last winter I had a membership at a 24/7 simulator. It was a small business and it only had 3 indoor bays at the location near me. I've been talking with a friend of mine about joining 5iron over the winter. The rates were comparable between the two locations, but more bays and perks available at 5iron vs. the smaller spot. Hoping to get some good practice indoors while courses are shut down for the winter. Wish I could have a home setup, but my current space doesn't really allow for it. Luckily my closest 5iron is only about a 10 minute drive.

5iron looks awesome and being that close makes it a no-brainer I think. I have a net with a launch monitor but have to use it outdoors. I also wish I had room indoors to use it.

Surprisingly for a place that doesn't have bad winters, we have several indoor golf options near the Casa, including one next door to the rental car office where I do all my renting for work. Only one of them has memberships that I can find ($600 a year for unlimited use). Hopefully I can get my garage sim put back together this winter, if I'm even able to play at all due to the bum shoulder, but good to know there are other options.

Speaking of the bum shoulder, I was just reminded of what sets me off even more than sleeping or playing golf: Lifting/carrying things, like luggage or groceries. Bringing in the results of today's Walmart run sent me straight to the ibuprofen.

Ok folks I am late but here. Spectrum got my new equipment installed and set up. They did send a guy out and it turns out the new equipment they gave me was defective. Last night we lost power due to someone hitting a power pole which did not help things. You know sometimes we take things for granted. I got extremely pissed at one of the neighbors. He was complaining about the power being out. I told him we were lucky the storm for all practical purposes missed us. Told him people in the Upstate of SC and people in the mountains of NC still had no power and some no homes or food. I decided to go back up and sit on my porch told him not to come up there then or ever. Yeah it was a typical neighborhood gathering in the street. Santee Cooper as usual had the power back on in about 1 1/2 hours. They are efficient to say the least. Like I told folks we had a very small taste of what those poor folks are going through. Like I told the wife at least I had a porch to retreat to.

No golf today I did some extensive work at the house

Yesterday I went for a 6 month check up. I had estimated I had lost like 15 lbs or so. Man was I wrong I lost 32!!! My Doc had wanted me to try to lose 20 but I exceeded his expectations and mine. I had noticed my energy levels were back up to pre accident levels. Man I am stoked. I will be back later we are going to the Moose since it is Taco Tuesday, and it is also National Taco Day

Oh it was definitely true. He showed me one of those pages from the Clearwater paper, which probably no longer exists. "Snowbirds Flying Home" or something like that.

Late post today.  Was up early to take my wife to a doctor's appointment an hour away.  All good news on that front, so when we got back to town I snuck out to the course.  A blustery, gray, misty kind of day.

Weather took a turn just after I hit the green on #11.  Luckily lots of trees between #11 green and #12 tee so I sat it our for about 10-15 minutes before continuing.  Had the course to myself for the rest of the back nine.  Well, just me and a guy on a mower who I kept crossing paths with.

Oh, and these guys at the green of #13 there to watch me miss my par putt.

Also, had some company with this foursome on #16.

Clubs and shoes drying off in the garage but I was glad to have made it out.  Hope y'all have great rest of your day!

I had it in my company truck and I paid for it. When I retired I was still working part time and had like 6 months on my contract I paid up front. while I was still in the hospital another guy drove my truck and ended up turning it over dumping a load of steel. I ended up getting the equipment out of the truck. My insurance I had on the unit paid for it. The company insurance on the truck paid for my CB equipment. They did call and asked if I still wanted service? I explained my situation that I was retired and more than likely not be in a truck for at least a year. They did issue me a refund check for the service

Happy October, Spies! More study for me today, plus the quarterly Zoom meeting with my boss which is always fun. Heard from my ortho regarding my MRI; he wants me to make an appointment to come in. Sigh. For some reason you can't make followup appointments using the patient portal, so I'll have to call. In the meantime, continuing to study for Friday's torture. Meanwhile, the toll from Helene continues to rise in NC and there are still thousands unaccounted for. 

Golf note: Just got an email from my club in Scotland that the World Hickory Open is being played on our course, among others, on October 10. Would be interesting to see how they handle the links with the old equipment.

Some of the guys I "know" on my FB groups are playing that event. From what I gather some of those guys are good with the Hickory stuff. I play some Hickory golf myself mostly up on the little Par3. Sometimes in my vintage rounds I do a mix of some Hickory stuff and steel shafted persimmon

@ZJeb67 oh I hear ya on that routine maintenance... Each and every single morning starts with stretching, rolling, yoga, more back rolling, light exercises. Time consuming but gotta do it. 

May have 18 on the schedule if the weather holds out this afternoon - currently partly cloudy and a little cool, but as we all too well know: the weather does what *it* wants!

I know where you are coming from on the regularly daily body maintenance. First thing I do when I get up is take a hot shower to loosen things up. While enjoying my coffee do stretching with my bands. By then Big Boy is ready for his morning duties so I take him for a short walk. I do some more stretching then on my 2nd cup catch up and peck on here. When I get to the course I will do some more with the Skilz ball trainer.

With my heart going out to hurricane sufferers and my whine a drip in their bucket, I am in the middle of some serious payback for posting pictures of my winter rounds in Phoenix when the temps are in the 70's with blue skies and sunshine while many are stuck in the icy blasts of winter. We are setting records every single day and after a week in the mid 90's about 10 days ago, summer has returned with an absolute vengeance. I just can't play in temps over 110* til next summer so I haven't played in a week while temps have been closer to 115* ... IN OCTOBER!!!!

... This below is true of course but I live in the kitchen.

Thanks guys I am still a little over weight from the pre accident days. I retired a month before my accident and had joined my club and was playing golf darn near every day even work days because usually I was back on the beach by 11AM. I had lost 20 lbs just by not being in a truck sitting on my duff 70 hours a week. I told the Doc (who is a golf bud) that I would try to lose at least 30 more by March at my next check up. I am not starving myself and have more energy to do stuff like play golf and work in the yard. I told her this winter even if my back does not work well enough to swing I will throw on my winter gear and walk around the block a few laps. My old man would put on weight in the summer even playing golf because he drank Milkshakes all the time and ate like a horse. He was an avid bird hunter and the first month of hunting season he would drop like 20 pounds, All he did in the winter was bird hunt. Our season then ran November through February and he hunted every day except on Sunday because that was prohibited in NC then. Now by law they could not hunt if there was snow on the ground which in our section of NC was not a whole lot. Yeah he would walk like 5 miles a day during hunting season

I'm pretty stoked right now, I got an invite from a friend... Well his sons... To play their course this weekend. My buddy said his boys are always asking if I want to play with them and we all have a tee time Sunday morning. I've played this course once and it beat me up and ate my lunch, so hopefully I'll have a better showing. Doesn't matter though, it'll be fun hanging out with Chris and his boys.

... Last June was brutal, but by September things had settled into fall temps below 100 and with low humidity quite pleasant. This summer is the hottest on record and set far too many records in September. It's expected June-August but not September and certainly not October.

When I lived in Flagstaff, it was about this time of year when the serious betting started on when the first snowfall on the SF Peaks would happen.  It was rare to make it Halloween without it.  Given the heat you're experiencing, I wonder how temps in Flag might be.

... Still in the 70's and 80's dropping to the low 40's at night. But as you said, late October can change things. Next summer I may look at renting a place up there for a few months.
