Handicapping Question

Recommended Posts

I'm stumped on exactly what score I should be posting for my handicap.  As I understand it, the maximum strokes on any hole would be double bogey.  My Course Handicap is 24.  Do I also deduct 24 from the score that I post??

Example:

Score today, after maximum of double bogey on most holes, was 100.     Do I post 100, or 76?

Thanks!

If you are posting only total score,  your max score for each hole in the calculation is net double bogey.

If you are posting hole by hole scores, post your actual score and the system should calculate the score used for handicap.

You do not post the score that you got after handicap adjustments;  that is primarily used for competitions.

In your example,  if just posting total score it would be 100.

Here's a link to the USGA Rules of Handicapping for the official rundown:

https://www.usga.org/handicapping/roh/2020-rules-of-handicapping.html

I can't figure out how to link to it directly, but Rule 3.1 specifically addresses Maximum Hole Scores.

I've found it easiest to enter scores Hole by hole using the GHIN app, but some of the courses I play don't accept Hole by Hole Scores, so still good to understand how to make the adjustments when needed.

If you are using the GHIN app you shouldn't have to adjust for net double bogey. Just enter your gross hole-by-hole scores and the app will make the adjustments for you.
