silver & black
I forgot to give an update on the blackberry shine I had the other night. I'm not a fan of flavored whisk(e)y. I especially dislike the peach flavored shine so many people seem to like. This blackberry version is a winner! It tasted like good shine should..... heavy on the corn and a good wallop of proof. There was just a hint of the blackberry.... enough to let you know it was there, but not sickening sweet.... which is why I don't like flavored whisk(e)y. I'm hoping to score a jar or two of it. ole gray

PlaidJacket
I'm not much of a drinker and have said so in other posts for one reason or another. However.... I went on my Masters trip this past week. Me and 3 other guys stayed at Reynolds Plantation and played for a few days before. (nice courses too) One of the guys in my group is a Bourbon sipper. He brought along two flasks of bourbon. One was a Elijah Craig of some vintage (12 yrs.) and the other I can't recall but it was 23 years old. I tried both of them off and on a few times. Pretty good. And powerful stuff if you're not careful. But I liked them. I joked a few times that he was like a wine snob... only with bourbon. Anyway, I decided to give bourbon sipping a try. He recommended that I get a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel. So I did. At first I thought the brand sounded like some cheap brand of a convenience store wine. Boy was I wrong. This is a top shelf premium bourbon I've quickly found find out. My friend told me Four Roses Single Barrel is a very good and smooth everyday sipper and a good introduction to high quality bourbon. So, I guess I'm heading down the road to hell and becoming a bourbon snob? Any of you guys drink Four Roses? Also... we're now looking to put together a golf trip next year centered around the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky. Badfish
Four Roses single barrel is a fine Bourbon. I have had it on many occasions and think very highly of it. I lived in Bowling Green, KY for about 5 years and did my best to sample all the Bourbon that I could . My go-to has always been Maker's Mark. silver & black
Yea, Plaid, I drink Four Roses. They are one of my favorite distilleries. They have 10 recipes from 2 mash bills and 5 strains of proprietary yeast. The Single Barrel is my favorite, but the Small Batch is no slouch. Elijah Craig dropped the age statement last year, I believe. It has long been a favorite of mine, and a great value for a 12 year old Bourbon. If you really want to try the Bourbon thing, you don't need to spend a lot of money for "good" Bourbon. Old Grand Dad Bonded and 114 are solid, as well as Wild Turkey 101. Weller, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace are all quality Bourbons that are very affordable. PlaidJacket
