DrMJG
Tonight was my home brew Czech style Pilzner lager, most similar to Budvar. A somewhat leaning towards an amber with a mild head that lasts nicely but is not over carbonated. (See photo below!) My recipe includes Czech Saaz hops with a full Munich grain and a good barley malt. ABV is a very noticeable 8.75%, so I call this one of my stay at home brews. I lager this brew for about 3 months for the fullest flavor. Actually, as this is my wife's favorite of my brews, I have to take care to have some ready for when she wants a quaff. I have 3 brews in some stage of fermentation or conditioning at this time: A Weißbier, Munich style Pilsner (my personally developed clone of Augustienerbräu), And another few cases of the first mentioned Czech Pilzen. In case you could not figure it out, I prefer Pilzners and Lagers over IPA. I prefer malts over bitter hops. I also prefer higher ABV, Blame this on my youth in Milwaukee before the days of Miller Light (my first words were "Blatz Beer") and my days working and studying in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. PMookie
One of the surgeons I called-on in San Antonio has just opened-up a Whiskey distillery downtown San Antonio, just two blocks from the Alamo. I talked with him about it at his office and he found the recipe for the whiskey in an old family diary. He distilled it at home to try it, and decided to go all-in. He said he’s not planning on going the Tito’s route and go big, he likes being a surgeon. They have two whiskeys and a gin now, and the bourbon will be ready in two years. Looks like they serve food as well if you’re at the location. Here’s the website. I REALLY like the label.
