What Golf Ball Are You Playing In 2024?

Yes I concur about the compression.  I do like a ball that has a bot softer feel but when I first tried the Q-Star several years and I found a couple Z-Stars and thought they felt too hard.  Even though I’m older, I worked to increase my SS from around 88 to a verified 95 last year and the Z-Star felt really nice off the driver and irons.  I haven’t verified but think I’ve added a few more mph and I that I’d be comfortable with the Diamond.   And anything I can do to generate more ball speed is worth it to me.

I would definitely suggest giving it a try. I am not the most sensitive to feel on the ball or maybe it just that I don’t care 🤣. I care about it doing what I want. But I would say the diamond has a softer sound and feel then others in the same compression range. They put a thicker cover on it which mutes the sounds especially on the shorter shots where you can notice it more.

I use the Left Dash Prov1x. For my game, it is kind of opposite of the conventional thinking of work from green back, because when I am on from the tee box, I will score. The left dash with lower spin helps some bigger misses be acceptable misses. I also personally do not mind the spin from partial wedge shots and chips, it does not spin as much as Prov1x but I account for that.

Finishing off the last 3 sleeves of my Maxfli Tour S then I don't know because they don't have the 48 pack in yellow anymore. I'd really prefer to stay with the yellow balls for visibility where I play, so I may have to change it up again.

For the past 2 years I’ve been loyal to TP5’s but gave in to all the talk about its older brother the TP5X. I’ve been using the x’s now for about 2 months and I’m not sure how I feel about them yet. I definitely have not been playing my best golf as of late but I’m not ready to blame the ball.

They for sure have a very different feel to them that I am not used to. I’m probably in an adjustment period switching from softer balls that I’ve always loved the feel of. I have not noticed the extra distance that most others claim and it feel that I have lost some accuracy with my irons. I do feel better around the green but it also may just be me putting some extra work on that part of my game as of late.

I still have 2 dozen TP5X balls in my bag but after those I do think I’m going to make the switch back unless something clicks in the next couple weeks. For me at least with softer balls they feel way more predictable and consistent. Curious what others think and if they tried the same thing and what they have noticed.

AVX and new Snell 3 and 4

How are the new snell balls when it comes to durability? I really liked last years snell lineup until I hit a tree/cart path. Was really easy to scuff up at times.

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

... Last year I gave my 5 playing pards a golf shirt for Christmas. I picked up 2 dozen yellow and 1 dozen white Snell 2.0's with the 4th of July free shipping deal to give them this year as they are all distance challenged. I have a dozen Maxfli Tours for my normal distance hitting pard and a dozen Maxfli Tour X for my young long hitting pard. I know how the Maxfli's perform but will be very interested to see if my slower swing speed amigo's gain any distance with the Snell 2.0's ... but I gotta wait 6 months to find out! 🎄

Have been bouncing between the Vice Pros and the Pro V1x’s most of this playing season. I still have some TP5x’s left over from last year and got a free pack of oncores from PGA Hope Project and I will need some more playing time with the to make a real opinion on them. The oncores don’t seem to be very spiny or long in my opinion.

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

I play the TP5X in hi-vis yellow.  My back up ball is the Snell 4.0.  I played the Snell for the past few years but swithced this year because Snell changed to shade of yellow and I prefer the brighter one.  Both balls are great for me but I find that I hit the TP5X a little further than the Snell.

I've been playing around with Vice Tour all last year and moved upto Vice Pro this year.  While I like them both, I might go back to the tour, being a ~15 HCP, I think the Tours have been a bit more forgiving.  Though, pro's and the drip colors are really nice and wish the Tour did that.

... Speaking of which ball you play, I don't normally read anything Conner Lindeman writes as we just have opposite ideas about most everything concerning golf. But I don't understand the Kirkland article that seemed gratuitous in the worst way and just feeds conspiracy theories on other golf forums. There are issues but I think there is a market for the Kirkland V3 as Ian found in this video. As always forum members should do their own research and form their own opinions.

... Hard to refute scientific evidence like that! 🤓 The Kirkland isn't a ball for my game but I have a couple high index friends I play with that like the V3 and an 82 yr old that gained about 10 yds switching to the V3 because the added spin keeps the ball in the air longer for more carry.

... I think if they weren't $14 a dozen and the same price as a Maxfli Tour ball, they wouldn't even be in the conversation. But if you are inconsistent, a beginner, a Sr/Lady needing more spin or lose a lot of balls when you play, $28 for 2 dozen is hard to pass up, even if performance isn't quite what other premium balls offer.

I have used 2 different brands of balls, titleist and bridgestone. I found 3 taylormade tp5xs that must have fallen out of someone's bag because it didn't seem like they were ever hit, I have never been a big fan of there balls but I am crushing these things. I might have to start playing these from now on. Yesterday I never took driver out of the bag and I was still out driving everyone.

I had those in rotation occasionally up until early last year, at least good ones I found on the course. But eventually I realized they were hooking and slicing more than others and I just hit them into the woods more!! 😒 Later on I felt slightly vindicated when I learned they have basically the most spin. But yeah I definitely still need to reign in the driver inconsistency. I'm far far from hitting it straight down the center line every time like Ian. Seriously, do those guys have left-right dispersion disabled for those videos? 😂

Here's my ball now (Wilson Staff Model). I did buy 2, get 1, and I'm loving how these play so far. 👍👍 I did an unofficial forum review for the Wilson Triad earlier, which I also liked. I may have to do another for these.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was using Titleist TruFeel then went with SuperSoft which really performed for me. Then my bride od 50-plus years got two dozen Kirkland Performance. A bit harder and a little less distance, but I've come around to them for launch and spin.

Not sure which of those three will be permanent (or semi-permanent) but Kirkland will stay awhile. I will definitely go with a yellow-green ball regardless. Old golfer, old bones and old eyes. Best, -Marv

I've been playing Kirkland balls, because I've found the difference in premium ball performance doesn't justify the massive difference in price.  However, thanks the MGS, I got that sweet deal on Amazon Prime Day for some Bridgstone balls, so I'll be playing them as soon as they arrive.
