Different Profiles same High Launch Low Spin?

I have been using the Graphite Design AD DI for a bit now and have been very happy with it. Being a golf tech and equipment nerd I am always interested in different things and in recent testing of clubs I really got along with the AD IZ which is a little soft in the tip and stiffer in the but than the DI. Having already been kind of interested in the TZ6 and it being the stiffer butt soft tip profile but to a bigger extreme then the IZ it got me really wanting to compare to the DI being both marketed as high launch and low spin being being pretty drastically different profiles on paper.

 

The contenders:

Accra TZ6 Gen1 55 M5

Weight - 62G

Torque - 2.6

 

Graphite Design DI 6X

Weight - 67G

Torque - 3.3

I have hit these a few times in the sim bay and on the range once on a cold day. For the sake of my ego I will mention when in this sim bay I seem to always be higher in spin and slower than normal. I think because is smaller and I have a thought in my  head I might hit the camera behind me with the driver. On feel I would say I am not super sensitive to this but I don’t feel a huge difference. The main thing from early impressions is I feel I can close the club face easier with the Accra, and for someone who’s miss is usually right I like that. And so far I would say my dispersion has been better with the Accra but not significantly in the sim bay. I will say that the few drives I hit at the range in the cold right after I had been to the gym so was a little stiff the DI was a little all over and the Accra was a little right of where I was aiming but was the same on each swing. Below are numbers from the 3 sim sessions.

                                                           

As you can see the average overall the Accra has been a little higher in launch and lower in spin. But in one of the sessions the DI was the higher launch and lower spin so it could just be down to strike on the given days. As we can see so far I will need to do more testing and decide which wins for me.

It's when things like this pop up that I often wonder what would happen if we had standard settings for flexes and how it would shake out.

Looks like the Accra has you making better contact above the center of the face thus the change in launch and spin.

Some better consistency with the Accra but there are still some wide variances that are more than likely swing related

Probably not much different than now. It’s still going to come down to the stiffness profile of the shaft and weight. The flex rating would probably just come from cpm measurement at one point or maybe a few points on the shaft and even with that two shafts with different stiffness profiles could have the same cpm measurement

This is what I am thinking as well. The sim I am on unfortunately doesn’t give me strike info. I want to get some foot powder and see.

Every time I hit balls I get mad at my parents for not making me a robot . Those swings are spread out over 3 different days. 2 of the days I would classify as bad swing days as well.

Shafts are not something that I've nerded out on at all. I was fit into a couple different manufacturers that the fitter had available and I try to get the closest shaft to that when buying something new. I should probably take it a little more seriously considering how important they are.

This is a very interesting write-up and I might have to do some comparisons myself. I've been using the Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 65 S and the Project X Blue Smoke 6.0.

Best way to do it. Don’t have to rely on stickers being in the right spot.

The IZ and DI are similar profiles and as you mentioned the differences are in the stiffness of each section. All the graphite design shafts are Diamana blueboard based profiles, just a variance in stiffness in each section.

They aren’t as important as many think. They are a timing device. Those who are more sensitive to weight and feel will see differences in their swing and the launch characteristics.

the px hzrdus smoke blue rdx is a counterbalanced shaft and a follow on to the hzrdus yellow lines.

the tensei blue is a typical blue design. So outside of the rdx blue any shaft with blue in the name is going to have a similar design. It’s a matter of finding the right weight and stiffness profile for you. The entire graphite design lineup is based of blue design, Diamana blueboard and the tb are some examples
