Then I line the Two-Ball Ten lines with the golf ball. Then I just move the club as square as I can, watching the club instead of the ball (which is apparently how Bryson does it, or at least what he claims in his latest Break 50). cksurfdude
Played 9 today on a really nice day with my honey. In common golf tale fashion .. my game kinda flip-flopped today .. full swing was a bunch of mis-hits while short game was much better vs what it's been lately Hit 4 greenside bunkers and got out in one try all four times - left two short on the fringe but got two on the green in reasonable proximity to the flag. No major screwups on other chipping / pitching although my proximity on those could've been a little better. After a 3 putt on the first hole I started to .. finally .. get the speed of these greens here with a bunch of tap in second putts; still over-reading break though. Weird. So this was my tee shot on #9 into the dogleg left .. does it count as a hole in one JAYER38, sirchunksalot, MattF and 6 others 8 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah... Driver... TheBirdieMasterLOL
Wow. I had a crazy round today. Played a match against my brother and a friend who averages at about +8 at our home course. We decided to give him 9 strokes to make it fair. I birdied my first two holes, triple bogied number 4 on a hooked 7 iron into a hazard and a 3-putt, then bogied number 5 when my chip shot lipped out to fall to +2. I birdied number 7, but had my worst swing of the day on number 9, thinning my 56 degree over the green into deep fescue (I double-bogied the hole). That put me at +3. On the back nine, I made some solid up-and-downs to stay at +3, then birdied number 13 to get to +2. By this point my brother was out of it because of some bad shots on 12 and 13. I parred number 14, and suddenly realized that I was behind my friend, including his handicap shots. I nearly made a hole-in-one on number 15, then stuck a wedge to 6 feet on hole 16 to get back to +1. On hole 17, I hit a poor shot into a bunker, but made a nice sand save to par the hole, and stay at Even, tied with my friend. On the 18th hole, I hit my approach about 20 yards short, but in the fairway. My friend hit his shot to about 12 feet. I hit a bump-and-run chip shot next, but unfortunately it bounced more than I anticipated and left me about 18 feet for par. I then DRAINED the par putt, and my friend's birdie attempt lipped out, so we tied. All in all, it was one heck of a fun round. I ended up at even, and my friend ended up at +9. I also putted incredibly well, with only 24 putts. rkj427
Played my third round this week with one of my regular playing partners, and we were paired up with a couple of other men who typically play a "sister course" of this Metropark course on the other side of the Detroit city limits here. Course was delayed about 15 minutes at the start, due to being packed even at 9:45AM. Followed a foursome of younger men who played from the blues, and honestly, if anyone one of them broke 110 it would have been a shock. They kind of held up the whole course, and we suggested that they possibly move up a tee box or pick-up after double par, we were met with looks of astonishment from them by even asking or suggesting such things, as they paid their money and were playing the course as they wanted too. Our group played well, all within our handicap ranges, and made the best of the day. I took a bunch of pictures of the color changes here, as I know a few other Spies love seeing them. I shot a 77, 38/39, with 10 of 14 fairways, not too many "official" GIR's due to 15-20MPH winds, and a total of 26 putts. Next rounds for me are Tuesday and Sunday of the upcoming week. GolfSpy_KFT
Shot some truly awful scores Friday and this morning but am feeling like I am getting to the point in my season where I am going to stop trying to focus on score and more focus on certain shots in different scenarios. Swing has been a struggle lately, and the timing really couldn't be much better with the offseason approaching. I have plans to work with a coach through Skillest this winter which I am really looking forward to, as I had some stretches of really good ball striking this summer. Getting a structured and focused practice plan in place could be exactly what I need to break through the 15 hdcp threshold and push my game to new levels. yungkory
81 today. Course we played was in pretty tragic condition: bare spots in fairway, crab grass patties scattered around the greens. Driver was good again, hit 67% of fairways, but I did double cross myself once and blocked a ball off the planet OB right. Still though, it's nice not having to worry about cooking one left. 0 duck hooks in the 2 rounds I've had it so far, and that makes me really happy. sp0rtsfan86
Played 9 Saturday and nothing really to write home about. The 18 on Sunday is that round where the good and the bad just about equal out. A few holes of trash and a few holes of glory lead to a one stroke above average score. For the first time this year since I started posting rounds in May my handicap went up a tenth of a stroke. Popular Post Shrek74
To be honest, yesterday's round was not very good, if you only look at score. But interestingly enough, some good did come from it. My wedge/short game has completely abandoned me. I bet I had an extra 8-10 shots on the card purely from having to hit extra wedge shots after flubbing one or blading one. I had a couple really nice bunker shots from uphill lies right up against the fringe. But I couldn't hit a 15 yard greenside chip to save my life. So that's going to need to be an area of emphasis this offseason and into next year, along with my irons and driver. Yeah, pretty much my whole bag. I did however find something with my Ti 340 Mini, that came out of my PXG Cincy fitting on the 11th. Something I realized was that I wasn't really committing to full force swings off the tee, for some reason. Maybe I was just trying to steer the ball too much or I didn't trust being able to control the club at max swing. Well, at the fitting I answered that question. I was swinging with purpose and strength, and still hitting it straight and longer than I usually see on course. So after that fitting, I was convinced I needed to swing fully and completely on course my next round to see if it truly translated. Well, it did. Other than one I only hit about half the ball on the really high heel side, everything else was well struck and longer than my drives have been for most of the season. Here's one example - hole 4. Card shows length at 409 yards, but it's a dogleg left so the tee shot either needs to aggressive over the corner or shorter towards the second bunker. Typically I play it towards the bunker and find myself in the middle of the fairway short of it (green dot). But today I went after it as I said I would. Although I ended up cutting the corner more than I planned, it worked out and you can see where I ended up - well past typical. I was experiencing this all day - longer than usual for the well struck shots and on mishits about where I used to be or slightly longer. Now, you'd think that was all that was special about the round. But it wasn't. Throughout my entire golfing life, I had never finished a round with the same ball I started with until this year. It happened back on July 7th. That ball was brought home, cleaned, and is proudly retire on my golf display shelf in my office. Oddly enough, it's no longer alone. Yup, it happened again yesterday. And if that wasn't crazy enough, it wasn't even my normal ball. I play the Maxfli Tour CG, and have for the past few years. My dad found a basically new Tour X CG ball when he played in one of his leagues last week, and I figured what the heck. So, I teed it up on 1, and put it back in my pocket after 18. I did clean it up before retiring it on the display shelf. During the round, there were a few holes I thought I'd lost it. But luckily, the 3 man search party was always able to locate it and in play. I had one unplayable lie, but never OB, which is also somewhat rare for me (but getting better). So all in all, I was happy with my play yesterday (minus the wedges). I see a lot of potential if I put in the work this offseason, and my handicap could easily drop 5-7 shots if I do. Now to see if DSG will exchange a few dozen Tours for Tour Xs. rkj427, cksurfdude, JAYER38 and 9 others 7 5 Quote Driver: AI Smoke Ti 340 Mini Driver, 11.5* @ 10.5* D, Stiff HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX, 70g, 43.75" 4 Wood: Stealth Plus 5w, 19* @ 17*, Stiff HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX, 70g 7 Wood: Stealth2 21*, Stiff Ventus Red TR 6-S Non-Velocore Hybrid: Fli-Hi 23* Hybrid / Iron Replacement, UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Irons: JPX923 Hot Metal Pro, 5-GW, UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Wedges: S23, 54* & 60*, UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Putter: Moment X Tour @ 35" & 71*, Super Stroke Pistol GT 2.0, White/Red Ball: Tour CG Technology: Anarch Rangefinder, V5 w/ Tags Shot Tracking. https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/65161-vortex-optics-rangefinders-2024-member-test/?do=findComment&comment=1089247 https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/66852-unofficial-review-tpi-virtual-assessment https://forum.mygolfspy.com/classifieds/ - DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE CLASSIFIEDS!!! JB2334
My Dad always said "Drive for show, putt for dough..." Pretty sure his spirit has been haunting me this entire summer, but never more than these last two rounds - maybe it's because Halloween is next week. On Friday, I played at Warrior's Path State Park in Kingsport, TN. I've lived in the area for a year and a half now, and everyone raves about this course...I hadn't played it yet, mostly because you can't pre-book a tee time as a single. It was a little cool Friday morning, so I decided to take my chances and was immediately able to get on. The course truly is in fantastic shape and is a great layout. I highly recommend it if you're visiting NE Tennessee. Part of my issues with putting this summer have been due to inconsistent quality/speed of greens - although it's mostly because I suck...lol. The greens at Warrior's path were firm, fantastic, and lightning-fast. I had a rough start on an unfamiliar course - on the first 5 holes, I only had one GIR, and was +5. I cleaned it up on 6-9, hitting all 4 greens and making par on all of them for a front 9 score of 41. The back 9 was sort of a mixed bag - not bad, not great. A double bogey on a par 5 after being in the middle of the fairway off the tee was particularly frustrating - I was right at the limit of my "go for it in 2" range, but I decided to be smart and lay up. I wish I hadn't. I ended up chunking a 6 iron, leaving myself 145 uphill to the green...then I thinned an 8 iron off the back and down a steep hill to the right of the green. Moral of the story - don't play smart. In all, 43 on the back wasn't terrible. Pretty typical round for me - 9 GIR, 37 putts. 41/43 - 84. On Sunday, I played at Cattails at Meadowview in Kingsport, TN. Another great course that I would highly recommend. The course was in fantastic shape - the greens were too, but they were really firm and pretty much unfairly fast for regular golfers. 2 foot putts were Rory at Pinehurst-scary. Just what the Dr. ordered after an entire summer of garbage putting. This was probably my most frustrating round of golf this entire year. (Using ESPN 30 for 30 voice) What if I told you that you would hit the green in regulation on 6 out of the first 9 holes? What would your score be? You're probably thinking somewhere between mid-30's to 40...try 45: #1 - 3 putts; #2 - 4 putts (my first 4-putt this entire year); #4 - 3 putts...couple that with the 3 holes where I didn't hit the GIR - all double bogeys. Sad. I started the back 9 double-bogey-double, and I was starting to fear that I wouldn't even break 90 (which has only happened twice this entire year, one of them on this very course). Thankfully, I got back on track, hit the next 5 GIR and putted from the fringe on 18 to finish with a 42 on the back. A couple of interesting stats: I mentioned that the greens were crazy firm and fast... This course has five par 3s...I hit the GIR on 4 of them - I played them a collective +7. I hit 44 shots from tee to green...I had 43 putts - that's not a typo. To show how well I really played from tee to green, I average about 35 putts per round (still too high, the average 10 hcp is about 33). Just my normal bad day on the greens would have given me a 79. The good news is that 11 GIRs is a new record for me. In theory, it should have translated to somewhere near a record low score...it clearly didn't. Popular Post Rob Person
Got out for a solo 9 after hitting a small bucket of balls at the range. Still having an over drawing issue with my irons, but for the driver sorted out. Finished with a 40, +4 score, which I'm really happy about after last weeks fiasco. Blew a chance at eagle on a down hill putt that quite frankly was a disaster to attempt. Had 1 3 putt for the day. cksurfdude, TheBirdieMasterLOL, Josh Parker and 8 others 11 Quote WITB- Driver -Titleist 910D, 3w- Titleist 910F, 5hy/7hy- Titleist 910H, 6-PW - Stix , 52⁰, 56⁰, 60⁰ - Stix , Putter- AI-ONE DB / Lombardi Tour 34 custom Just an old newbie golfer, trying to learn and improve 1 club at a time. Josh Parker
Best ball match today was BRUTAL!!! We gave them 2 strokes on 13 holes and 1 stroke on the other 5. I shot an even 36 on the front and a 4 over on the back 9. I missed a ton of birdie opportunities but was leaving tap ins on almost every hole. The 31 handicap shot a 44 on the front and ended up in the mid 90's. Nothing I could do. Every par 3 they got 2 strokes and I parred 3/4 of them. It's double elimination luckily. I really wish they did handicaps in the states like @GolfSpy_APH has mentioned where it has to be sanctioned and signed off by another participant. But not like you played bad so nothing to get down about. Handicaps are for sure trouble-some and sadly it is a system easily manipulated if you want easy wins within the system. I'm happy with the round but do think they need to make some changes to the format. I would love to see 75% or 50% handicap. It would sort of weed out the ones that tend to fluff scores. We still have one more opportunity and I plan on playing my game and hopefully my partner has a better round. cksurfdude, cnosil, Rob Person and 1 other 4 Quote Titleist GT3 11* Tensei 1k blue Titleist TSR2 4w 16* Titleist TSR2 5w 18.75* MKII ZX 5's (4-6) w/ KBS Tour V MKII ZX 7's (7-PW) w/ KBS Tour V Vokey SM9 Wedges 50* 54* 58* DF2.1 Putter
